jay glazerAffliction MMA today made the broadcast team official for its debut show, “Banned,” which will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on July 19.

And the veteran voice of mixed martial arts Mauro Ranallo -– who was believed to be part of the ensemble -– will not call the fights for the upstart promotion.

In fact, according to press release issued just this morning, “television sports reporter and announcer, Jay Glazer, will handle blow-by-blow action” for the pay-per-view (PPV) and Fox Sports Net (FSN) telecasts.

Glazer will be shoulder-to-shoulder in the booth with color commentators, Frank Trigg and “Big” John McCarthy. This won’t be the first time Glazer and Trigg have teamed up -– the pair hosted the Pride FC special programs that often aired on FSN.

Affliction: ‘Banned’ will begin at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on FSN in the United States and The Fight Network in Canada. The broadcast will run for one hour on those networks, featuring two bouts (Aleksander Emelianenko vs.Paul Buentello and Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin) before moving directly to PPV.

The main card on PPV will showcase the inaugural WAMMA heavyweight championship fight between Fedor Emelianenko (27-1) and Tim “The Main-iac” Sylvia (24-4) in the main event, as well as several other marquee match ups that include Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Ben Rothwell, Renato “Babalu” Sobral and others.

Big John + Mauro + Trigg would have been much better.

I wonder if they have a hate on for Mauro?

OFFTOPIC;

I just read through an interesting break-down of this weekends main event between Rampage and Forrest.
It is the punch, grappling and a total performance rating- stats from all rounds.

It is pretty cool. check it out if you got the time.

I was surfing the net on Rampage/Griffin articles and it just came about..

I thought some maniac’s would find it interesting..

I wonder if they do that for every fight? I havn’t even browsed around the site yet…I just checked out the stats and then came here and posted..

That metric is only striking..do you think there is submission attempt one?? I like when like in XC..when they show takedown attempts, submission attempts, kicks, etc.. during the fight. I wonder the UFC doesn’t incorporate that into the fight broadcast.

PhilQNY, Did you click through the three box’s at the top of the screen?

they are striking-grappling-TPR/decision.

If you click on grappling you will get the subbmisson ratio, aswell as takedowns ect..

And the TPR/decision box is the total preformance rating, and it has stats aswell as the final prediction..

Also you can click round by round at the bottom..
And click on the homepage to see stats on other fights.

@PhilQNY: you need to click the different tabs – there is also grappling, overall offensive rating, submission attempts, passings on the ground and so on.

HEY STINKY,
thanks for the restaurants. Food is my passion. 10 years ago, I would’ve love the striper clubs, but my wife made me stop. She found out about the BJ’s and other “stuff” that goes on at those places. I’ll gamble, but like I said, I gamble EVERY day, so it’s not a huge deal. I agree, any emeril’s is great, we’ve eaten at 3 or 4 over the years. As far as bringing cash, I don’t roll as deep as you, but have a nice bank roll. The flight over the grand canyon is more than the flight from san jose, lol. Thanks again buddy.

,

Did you see that the 700 dollar ringside seats in stockton are still available? I was pretty close to going, but am deciding against it unless my connection comes through with tickets. If you can still by the best seats in the house, it’s a pretty sure thing that it won’t sell out!

Those floor seats are usually some of the last to go. They are very over priced. SOme people don’t mind the nose bleeds for $30. If you take the wife, you’re spending like $2 G’s on tickets.

Plus Stockton isn’t exactly the riches town from what I hear.

Hey Stagger-Lee, Looking at the fight metric it doesnt make sense. It shows Forrest winning every round on strikes but the 4th. So give round 1 to Rampage for dropping Forrest right. So Rampage won 1 & 4, Forrest winning the rest with the 2nd 10-8. So how does that site have a draw?

Comment by Stagger-Lee
2008-07-07 13:19:26

JV,I was thinking the same thing but im not exactly sure how it works just yet. I just saw it today for my first time, and thought other maniacs would find the whole idea interesting.

But i was thinking in the striking catagory for example,,they have two different catagory’s saying;

HiPer strikes and
LoPer strikes.

I am assuming that it means high percentage and low percentage..And as you see “it shows forrest winning every round exept the 4th”. But if you look they have Forrest winning most the LoPer and Rampage wins the HiPer…Also Forrest wins most strikes, but with a bad percentage…Maybe that had something to do with it?
Or maybe failed submissions?

I dont know?,,I should read into how it works, more, but I am tired and have to get some sleep for tonight.

btw-I did not put this up to change peoples minds or anyting.I stumbled across it earlier today. I just think it is kind of cool(4 all fights), and it has more then just Rampage/Forrest fight break-down..

Glazer was joking, Glazer and Trigg are extremely ‘tight’.. I think Glazer was in Triggs wedding party and may even have been his best man… they joke a lot in condesending ways, with Triggs often being the butt of the joke… it’s the way they roll. I didn’t ever see Triggs offended… he’s a very overly confident and funny guy.

Frank Trigg is not to bad, but Mauro totally got shafted on this one…

IMO-The best 5 MMa broadcasters are as follows(in order)-
Bas Rutten
Joe Rogan
MAURO RENALLO!
Frank Mir
and now, even before he does it he makes #5 on the list-
Big John.(but he will probably move up as time goes)

I was really looking forward to Big John and Mauro..That would have been a great combo for calling a fight!

I completely forgot about Randy…He does a great job commentating…He would probably take Big Johns spot at 5(for now) considering Big John is new to comentating.

I do think John will do a great job. He is very knowledgable, and as a former MMa ref(the best), he should have an unbiased stand-point…He will keep it real and call it as he see’s it..

Still bummed that Mauro wont be at his side..I wonder why he got the shaft?

Watching the Melendez/Thomson Strikeforce event, I got REALLY annoyed with Bas’s sound effects. He really needst to drop them.

Frank Mir and Joe Rogan are the best.

Good move.

I used to really like Mauro as a commentator, but now he’s just grating. Just annoying to listen to, and when he comes out with his over the top analogies i want to rip off my ears like that infamous meth addict ripped off his balls <– yes, that’s a piss take on his annoying analogies.

Quadros would be better though. Trigg has become a lot better as a commentator, he can play both the colour role and P2P role if Glazer starts slacking. Good move.

Not sure about Big John though, haven’t heard him commentating – would have been gold if they managed to get Randy Couture instead – he’s really good at the commentating role, and gives a great inside perspective that other commentators miss, for example i remember Travis Lutter went for an ankle pick on Silva and Joe Rogan commentated “oh that looked horrible, travis is so exhausted” or something like that, yet Randy was right in there complimenting travis saying “GREAT ankle pick, he shot in low, really nice” or something like that — of course travis got the takedown. Basically Randy’s really good.

Damn i’m rambling again :-(

The whole WAMMA thing is a joke! How do these guys come in and try to get a piece of the pie and they dont even run events or put up money? WAMMA wanted to see who has the best fighters and who is the best. Champ Vs Champ to see who the best are. Last I checked Tim sylvia is not a champ. This fight is no differant then say, tim Vs Big Nog, you still have other champs that are out there. If Tim wins is he the best all of the sudden? Thats what Wamma is trying to figure out.

IMO WAMMA should be Champs Vs Champs

even though Nelson from the IFL is not a top ten guy, he is a Champ from another org, who doesnt get the chance to fight the top guys else were. Nelson Vs Fedor is more of a WAMMA concept fight. But of course WAMMA wasnt set up for what they claim, they are set up to break the UFC down and dis credit there champs.

WAMMA is a joke, liked the idea somewhat until they said somehow Tim Vs Fedor is a WAMMA title fight, LOL!
Is this the same Tim who has lost to Couture and Big Nog of late?

And the wamma concept is to try and straighten out the rankings top ten guys can fight and actually fix the rankings so ya it has nothing to do with champ vs champ cus then you could put Wiuff vs Nelson and then try to say theyre the best

Trigg and Glazer were on that Fox Sports Net Pride show, so Trigg probably said “I know a guy” and voila.

Probably also ties into their previous announcement with fox airing the pre-lims.

Glazer is already a company man, no need to extend the payroll.

Comment by Badguy
2008-07-07 13:41:08

the reason it is champ Vs Champ is because they have beaton the best in there org, and they dont get a chance to fight each other. Its to find a true #1, but how is this done with Tim in the mix, he just lost and isnt the best in any org right now.
It wasnt to sort just rankings otherwise the UFC takes care of about 80% of that. Nog Vs Werdum or Fedor Vs Tim it doesnt do anything differant or more. WAMMA is a joke!
Wiuff Vs Nelson would atleast point out whos champ is better, then they could defend against Overeem and then the winner Vs Fedor, then the winner Vs Nog ect. Its not to pit two top guys against each other, we get that from the UFC and other on a monthly basis.
