Former UFC competitor Edwin Dewees (35-12) has been slated to replace deposed light heavyweight Vernon “Tiger” White at the Affliction: Banned pay-per-view on July 19th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
White, who was originally scheduled to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a televised match airing on FSN, was yanked from the card after testing positive for a banned diuretic following his match against Jeremiah Constant at Xtreme Cage Combat 6 on May 31.
While “Tiger” vehemently denies any wrongdoing, a July 9 hearing with the NSAC didn’t leave Affliction officials with enough time to replace him should he be found guilty.
Prior to the Dewees signing, Affliction replaced the scrapped Nogueira-White bout on FSN with the light heavyweight match between Vitor Belfort and Terry Martin.
Dewees is coming off a submission win over Richard Blake at No limit Fighting last April. That victory snapped a four fight losing streak including a loss to Jorge Rivera at the UFC Ultimate Finale 4 in 2006.
Despite going 0-3 in the UFC, “Babyface” has the tools and the experience to make this a competitive fight. And fans may be getting the better of the deal. At 26-32-2, White wasn’t exactly tearing up the circuit.
Still, Dewees will have his hands full against Nogueira. “Minotoro” (13-3) is the twin brother of UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and recently stopped Todd Gouwenberg via TKO at HCF: Destiny back in February.
Affliction — one of the most recognized and popular clothing brands out right now — made its bid to become the latest mixed martial arts promoter official a few months back during an episode of “Inside MMA” on the HDNet network.
It’s been known for some time now that Affliction would throw its hat into the MMA ring. In fact, the UFC and Elite XC recently banned their fighters from wearing Affliction gear during events because of the looming competition.
And if the inaugural pay-per-view (PPV) fight card slated for the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. on July 19 is any indication of things to come, then Affliction will indeed pose some stiff competition.
So stiff in fact, that UFC President Dana white has whipped up his own little card for the 19th as well. UFC Fight Night 14 will air live from the The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada on SpikeTV.
Should be one hell of a night for MMA fans.

Dewees is a better draw for Affliction. He’s a former TUF guy. He’s been on mainstream TV. Had a memorable bloody fight against Gideon Ray.
He’s fought more than most 25 year olds and has a lot of experience. But I don’t see him beating Rogerio.

I havent seen any Affliction odds really, then again I havent really checked… I been concentrating on UFC 86
You are right about Andre/Rothwell fight…Its just not worth betting, especially when there are so many easier picks to be made on July 19th. I will also probably stay away from Aleks/Buentello since Aleks is unpredictable and inconsistent…If they offer the Unders for the Aleks fight, I will bet the unders! I will also stay away from the Vitor fight since he is the “Mental Vernon Troyer” lol

a small bet on Nagoa is warranted, but I mean really small amount. I wont involve him in parlays because to much risk of him loosing and screwing up the whole parlay.
If I was a smart man, I would just bet a lot on Lil Nog, collect my dough and Call it a night, but you know me…I love the ACTION, and I feel that I can pick this event apart gambling!

This could be a bloody fight or end with a quick sub.
I don’t see this leaving the first round with Nog winning this quickly via submission. That said, I hope DeWees does well and surprises us with a win.

I guess I’ll be the nice guy, DJRmma, Antonio Nogueria has a twin brother, who’s first name is also Antonio. Only thier middle names differ, and not by much. Big Nog’s, the UFC HW champion, middle name is Rodrigo. Lil Nog’s middle name is Rogerio.

no hes a light heavyweight who doesnt have the same chin as his big bro! his bjj isnt as good as his big bro but his boxing is excellent! lil nog is a great boxer! however his muay thai is very behing the us pro mma standard! but he does train with anderson silva so im guessing he has improved it now!

No problem Grembone. We call him lil nog, I think he was born a couple minutes after the UFC champion and he is in a lighter weight class.
He is also 1 of 3 men to submit Dan Henderson along with his twin and Anderson Silva, so his submission game is very tight!

see I always thought Edwin Dewees should’ve been called “The Baby-Faced Assassin” because he looks so young and he’s so dangerous. Why does Josh Barnett have that nickname? his face looks like a German Power lifter! Nothing on Barnett’s face reminds me of a baby.

I agree, Rogerio should get a deal with the UFC. They were both in Pride together and it was great, never confusing and provided some classic matchups. Rogerio’s fights with Shogun and Sakuraba were classic. Sokoudjou too, for different reasons.
