Brock Larson vs Carlo Prater

MMAmania.com has confirmed that Brock Larson and Carlo Prater have signed on to do battle in a welterweight tilt at WEC 35 on August 3, ensuring that the winner gets one step closer to a rematch with reigning 170-pound champion, Carlos Condit.

Prater — who is one of the few who has actually defeated Condit albeit in an ancient encounter back in 2004 — made his debut for the Zuffa-owned promotion against the “The Natural Born Killer” at WEC 32 this past February. Condit, however, would avenge his loss in short order, submitting Prater in the first round via guillotine choke.

Since that time, Prater has fought twice outside of the organization, picking up wins over Marcelo Brito and Garett Davis in the UWC and Raw Combat organizations, respectively. He certainly has his sights set on a rubbermatch with Condit, but Larson stands in his way for now.

Larson is coming off a high charged disqualification victory over John Alessio at WEC 33. The fight was stopped after Alessio landed a knee as Larson attempted a takedown. Larson, however, had one knee down as he took the shot, meaning that the blow was illegal.

He suffered a broken jaw as a result of the errant blow. And it added more fuel to the fire between the two rivals. In fact, after the official announcement was made with the result of the bout a melee between the two fighters and their camps broke out.

Larson and Alessio ceratinly have unfinished business. But with the “Natural” now out with a broken arm — and no longer fighting for the WEC — Larson has to focus on Prater and then Condit. Somewhere along the way perhaps he will get to settle the score with Alessio.

Again, the winner of this fight could still be next in line to fight Condit possibly later in the year.

Condit will actually be one of three champions also booked to fight at WEC 35, taking on former middleweight Hiromitsu Miura in a co feature fight of the evening. WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Brian Stann and WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner will also compete, as well as several talented up-and-coming fighters such as Micah Miller, Cub Swanson, Damacio page and more.

This is a stacked line up of fights, which is set to go off from “The Joint” at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and air on the Versus network at 9 p.m. ET.

Yeah, I guess Praters ‘Thug Jitsu,’ as he calls it, was a little off that night.

HUH??? Yves Edwards is the founder, and to my knowlede, the only practicioner of thug-jitsu.

Carlo Prater is a calm softspoken foreigner. I don’t think he is the thug-jitsu type.

We should all start a petition and send it to Zuffa saying, stop wasting Carlos Condit away in the WEC. He is ready to make an immdeiate impact in the UFC’s welterweight division!!!

Tito Ortiz’ record - worse than you could expect
Tomorrow, it’s been seven years since Tito Ortiz finished an opponent (not counting Ken Shamrock who’s been KOed in the first round in his last five matches).

Out of Tito’s ten last matches, he has four losses, one draw, two wins by split decision, one unanimous decision and two wins against Ken. The unanimous decision was against Patrick Cote, who is a 185 pounder and actually made his Octagon debut against Tito. Not an easy task for Patrick.

Tito has been fantastic in marketing himself. But in the past seven years, he has done very little in the Octagon.

no no no condit is not a UFC calibur. he wouldnt beat huges alves GSP and not finch. he has a tittle and needs to stay with it. I dont even think he will beat brock larson the next time he fights him. I have talked with brock and he knows he got ahead of himslef wich he did. condit is not UFC at all!

Condit submitted both of these guys. I dont know how many more guys Condit has to go through to get bumped up to the UFC. No one in the WEC is gonna beat him. He is the real deal. Id like to see him fight Koschek, Parisyan or Sanchez for a UFC debut.

Has anyone else heard the rumor that Jesse Tayler will fight CB dollaway at fight night on july 19? If so, Kevin thinks JT will win. He’s bigger, stronger, hungrier and IMOI more well rounded. Kevin can’t stand CB’s attitude or facial expressions, not to mention the constant 3rd person references. He and matt brown were so hyped, and realistically, the hype was about nothing, CB can’t defend an armbar and brown wasn’t even close to being bad ass. The days of a wrestler dominating are over, but I gues they forgot to send the memo to CB. Lastly, all the talk of cb being at a real camp now…in arizona? Go to new mexico, san jose, stockton or bettendorf…Ariczona???

I dont see how anyone can make a smooth transition from the World Combat League to MMA. They are like night and day. Just because you you have an undefeated record in WCL doesnt mean anything. Ive watched it twice and when they show the tale of the tape or whatever they call it on that show, they will have a kickboxer or Muay Thai guy going against a jiu jitsu guy or wrestler in a kick boxing match. Who do you think is goin to win? But to agree with JV, that dude did get worked. I dont think that little break dancing/popin’/armwaving/stretching ritual he did at the beginning helped him out any either.

Did anyone else see Daniels tap in the first round? I could have sworn he tapped, I’ve watched the video online and I see it there too. I could be wrong and it was some twich from being hit in the face, but I think it was a tap.

He was a great point fighter, and that was the style he used in the WCL. That being said, point fighting has nothing to do with a real fight.

Oh my fault Kevin I thought you were a fan cause you had posted a few of his clips. The dude is a good striker, maybe givin a few more fights and experience he’ll do better.

I agree Mexicutioner. I tried giving the WCL a chance, but it got boring after a while. I probably watched 3 or 4 shows.

Actually point fighting has a lot to do with real fighting. One of the best mma fighters in the UFC (Machida) is basically a point fighter and it works for him!

That is the only person I have ever seen fight that way. Everyone has done point fighting at some time, but only Machida seems to apply it to his real fights. IMO his style is also very boring.

IMO his style is genius. He tags people up with out ever getting touched…..it is not an easy thing to do. I actually find it amazing how he mnages to out class people with that style…He is the Ghost of the UFC, you just cant touch him, but whie u chase him, he is taging you up with punches, kicks and knees.

He is easily one of the most skilled mma fighters that I have ever seen. If he improves his KO power, he will become unstoppable!

Sadly, I was the one that posted the links for Raymond Daniels. I just watched it on YouTube. It was appearant that Metcalf didn’t want to stand with him, and he did what he needed to do to pound out the win. Good job. The Real Deal showed nothing in that fight. He needs A LOT of work. The only shot landed while standing was Raymond getting punched in the mouth to start the second round…

And John, above, you said “Lastly, all the talk of cb being at a real camp now…in arizona? ” CB has been training at Arizona Combat since he got out of college. He’s been there the whole time. He brought Matthew Riddle with him to train there. Its the first time Riddle is at a REAL camp.

kevin:I also heard that they would be fighting each other on July 19th. U r crazy if u think Jt is more well rounded than CB. Jt was the biggest 1 trick pont on the show. He fought lilke TIto Ortiz..get the tackdown, never pass guard, and just try to dry hump/g n P on the way to a victory. all JT has i s wrestling. Too bad for him in Colege, CB out wrestled JT Twice.

I cant see any possible way that CB could loose to jT.

Jesse Taylor vs. CB Dollaway will take place for sure on July 19th! CB is going to win this fight. he already holds 2 wrestling wins over JT Money back when the competed against each other in college and since all jT can do is wrestle, this should be an easy win for CB!

Saying this as a wrestler and fighter, Wrestling and fighting are completely different. That being said this fight could go either way and I see it being a war. The big question is CB’s cardio.

No way cb looses to jT, and yes this will be a wrestling match! What other skills has JT ever used besides wresting?
None. JT will have to try and out wrestle Jesse, that cant happen, so CB will TKo him or submit Jt MOney

Hopefully Cb destroys JT in the first round so we never have to watch this dry-humping lout again.
