Strikeforce weigh-in results

The weigh-ins for Strikeforce: “Melendez vs Thomson” are in the books.

And eventually, after one fighter (Riggs) was told he would not be cleared to fight, and others took multiple attempts to cut a few extra pounds, everybody finally made weight.

After what has been a hectic day for some of the fighters on this card, we’re now through with the last of the formalities and a matter of hours away from show time.

The under card bouts will begin around 9:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m local) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. HDNet will begin its broadcast an hour later at 10:30 p.m ET (7:30 p.m local) and the main card action will begin about a half hour later.

Here are the final weights for each of the fighters competing tomorrow night:

145 lbs: Miesha Tate (145) vs. Elaina Maxwell (146)
205 lbs: Light Heavyweight Championship: Bobby Southworth (205) vs. Anthony Ruiz (203)
185 lbs: Jeremiah Metcalf (185) vs. Raymond Daniels (184)
155 lbs: Billy Evangelista (155) vs. Nam Phan (154)
135 lbs: Chris Cariaso (135.5) vs. Anthony Figueroa (134.5)

Under card (may not be televised):

185 lbs: Jesse Gillespie (186) vs. Eric Lawson (185) (swing bout)
155 lbs: Bobby Stack (155) vs. Jose Palacios (155)
155 lbs: Eric Jacob (156) vs. Alexander Trivino (156)
205 lbs: Jorge Interiano (201) vs. Travis Johnson (205)
170 lbs: Cyrillo Padhillo (169) vs. Jesse Jones (169)
140 lbs: Bryan Caraway (140) vs. Alvin Cacdac (141)

Note: fighters are allowed one extra pound in non-title fights for clothing

It should be an action packed night of fights tomorrow night from San Jose. We’ll have all the updates and results for you right here on MMAmania.com before, during and after the show.

Check in early and often.

REALLY??? Joe Diesel has hardcore fans? That comes as a surprise to me. If you are not watching the card because Riggs is not on it, I would guess that you only watch the UFC and Riggs is the only name that you recognize, even though a couple of other fighters on the card have fought in the UFC… And Gilbert is was of the TOP fighters in all weightclasses!

I am getting HDnet next Sunday. I am really mad that I can’t get it for today, WTF! My brother gets the channel so I can get him to DVR it. My 50 yr old stoner neighbor has the channel too, so maybe I’ll have him dvr it and then I’ll watch it tomorrow and smoke him up. That’ll work for me, and I KNOW it’ll work for him.

Does anyone know odds for the main event? Is it being offered any where? Melendez would no doubt be the favorite. But the question is, how big a favorite? If I could get Da Punk at +400 I’d throw a very small amount of money on him. Gilbert is a fighter that has been flying under the main stream radar, since, forever – because he’s never fought in the UFC. He is an absolute, can’t miss, stud.

ALSO, everybody be on the look out for Raymond Daniels. As long as he has worked on his sprawl and has it down really good, he will indeed prove to be The Real Deal.

Drew Fickett is a joke and a complete waste of talent. Turns down a title fight on CBS to fight in his cousin’s, classmate’s uncle’s house. I am happy to hear that he is no longer on the card. He doesn’t deserve to ever to on a televised card again, unless its against Jake Shields so Jake can beat him senseless.

Very cool. BetUs has the odds for this event, but Thomson is only +285. Not good enough for me…

The below is copy/pasted from the BetUs site:

Fri 6/27 713 Miesha Tate +220

10:00PM (EST) 714 Tim Sylvia -300

They have Tim Sylvia fighting in a 145 female fight! LOLOLOL

I would bet money that Bobby Soutworth was one of the fighters that had to continue to cut weight. Remember that moron on TUF 1? Koscheck was dragging him into the sawna and Bobby really thought he was going to die, lol.

Yes I remember his stint on Season 1 of TUF.
What a moron, why would you come in that much over weight knowing you had to fight, then be a HUGE baby about it when he had to get in the sauna.

Props to Kos for being an awesome teammate and helping him out.

Bobby and Kos were complete dicks on season one, constantly screwing with Leben. Bobby is an ass clown.

Boycott one-word posts! Also, two things that should never appear in the same sentence are “Bobby Southworth” and “title fight.” Except, of course, for the sentence I just wrote.
