im sorry, but last nights fights, were all lame, the lamest ultimate finale ever.

HAVE YOU GUYS SOMEHOW FORGOTTEN ABOUT CLAY GUIDA VS. ROGER HUERTA FROM LAST SEASON.

NOW THAT WAS EXCITING,but all of the rest of this stuff was pretty effin lame.

I was bored to sleep.

and what was up with the eastman fight after the main event?????

Comment by Ron Stuczynski

The lighter weights move alot faster so they are more exciting. Forgeting the Clay Guida vs. Roger Huerta would be just as bad as forgeting the Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar or Scott smith vs. Pete Sell (if you haven’t seen this, watch it on YouTube - better than the Guida, huerta fight as far as toe to toe action goes).

One reason they reinstated the lightweight category is to get some of the fast strong contenders in that category. I also find the TV fights aren’t as exciting as the payperview events. But its a slug fest and a chess match at the same time. I find GSP’s, Chick Liddel’s, Matt Hughes, Euria Favor’s(WEC), and many more fights to be very entertaining. Sometimes you get two guys that just go at it.

This was your first UFC watch or u never seen an undercard bout put after a main card to fill in time before ?

All in all compared to recent showings it was a prety weak event but when there flowing this fast between shows its hardly surprising. That said it still kicked ass over anything there rivals have put out over the past 12 months bar the last wec.

Amir is one bad dude!..I had my pick on CB, and was shocked with how well Amir performed oppose to the first fight…It just shows how much a real training camp improves your talent..He is just a newbie in all around MMa. This guy is looking really good already..

IMO Amir should be fighting a 170..A move to WW would better suit him…And in time he should be quite te force in the WW division..

If he does stay at MW, I dont see him putting together enough wins to climb the ladder…At WW he would definiely be a threat if he could handle the weight-cut(which i think he could)..

It was one sided - but the Kendall Grove fight was amazing in terms of his skill, he outlcassed Tanner in every possible way, the knees and elbows from the clinch were very nice.

From a technical standpoint, Grove really impressed (And i was rooting for Tanner :()

I still have to write up a review up on it, also the Dustin Hazlett/Josh Burkman fight was a treat for JUjitsu fans - and its free on ufc..so thats pretty cool - check that out if you havent yet.

They removed Nick Diaz from his DReam fight with Hayato Mach Sakurai, so that Diaz can compete on the July 26 EliteXC CBS show!

That is a disgrace! I cant wait till Elite EXC goes out of nusiness. This is the last straw!

Nick vs. Eddie would bea pretty interesting fight.

I am sooo pissed that Diaz will not be fighting Mach any time soon..But at least he gets his re-match with Noons, without having 2 fights in 1 and a half months pretty much right before his re-match..

This way Diaz shuld be fresh, and have a good camp before the fight…And we all know he needs it with how inconsistant he has been latey.

But I’m still mad because, i would rather Diaz be Dream champ intead of EXC champ….But hopefully when he beats Noons, he can fight Mach before the have him defend agianst Eddie..

john; Just curious who would you be routing for if Eddie and Diaz do fight?
I know you are a HUGE Diaz fan, like myself, but I know Eddie is from your home-town and you show him alot of support…probably a tough one eh??

I would like to get some clarification about the tapping rule. I have been watching mma for a over a decade and I always thought that to tap someone out, the opponent had to tap 3 times, 2 at the very least. I have seen about 100,000 fights that have resulted in submissions, and I cant recall any of them ever being stopped after the guy tapped only once. Am I wrong here? am I missing something?

Its no secret that I have been swing from CB’s left nut all season (Violentmike has been occupying his right nut lol), but for those that remember I also picked Amir as a sleeper after the 1st episode of the season, so I am being unbiased.
Beside verbal tapping, I didnt think 1 tap was enough to call the fight. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Regardless, the right man won (Amir). Only fighter on the show to go undefeated and for not having any pro fights entering the show, he has had an incredible run and it has been a great story. He finished most of his fights (I believe). Look out for Amir! I see him cutting to welterweight, joining a top notch camp, and become a force in the UFC in a couple of years!

CB, has nothing to be ashamed of. Future is super bright for him (so bright he has to wear those shades all day). By the time CB enters his prime, he will be a monster!

I also think Crueder and Matt Brown will be solid UFC fighters. Riddle also has all the natural abiulity to become a hell of a UFC fighter. We all ripped the season but down the line, this show could have produced 5 legit UFC fighters.

The last the seasons of tUF have all produced crappy fights to decide the winner. THink about it:

Amir vs. Cb Was expected to be a war, but it was far from that.

Mac Danzing vs. Tommy spears was a crappy fight

and Manny vs. Nate Diaz was B.S as well.

Comment by PW
2008-06-22 18:01:07

You need two good fighters to have a good fight. Spears is terrible, as Danzig and Rumble Johnson proved. I know you’re pretty familiar with my low opinion of Manny by now. And CB got caught early with a sub instead of beating Amir up for two or three rounds before getting caught. I think we all got spoiled on Forrest-Bonnar. None of the other finals fights have come close to matching it, and it’s pretty unrealistic to expect them to.

Referee’s should all agree on a proper defination for what is considered a tap. I am not making excuses for CB, because I too would have stopped the fight but look back to Brock vs. Mir. Brock tapped once (just like CB) and Mazzagati asked him are u tapping, and then brock tapped a couple of more times and the fight was stopped.

According to way the Lesnar vs. Mir fight, Cb’s fight should not have been stopped.

I am not saying that CB didnt tap, I am just saying i am sick of the discrepancy in the way fights are refereed!

2008-06-22 20:31:14

i agree, but officiating in any sport is always gonna be an issue… look at the nba playoffs this year. MMA will never have instant replay to tell if someone tapped or not. I think the responsibility lies with the fighter to not motion like a tap in any way…. the biggest one I had a problem with was Sonnen/Filho… he def did not tap, i think when the ref’s ask are you tapping or whatever they tap, they are expecting a yes, so if you respond verbally at all, it’s gonna go against you, same goes for GNP stoppages, like the Vera fight….but back to the Filho fight, that is a title fight approaching the end of the round, you let him either make it to the next round or get his arm broke in a title fight

Comment by crowls
2008-06-22 20:46:49

may have jumped the gun a bit on the instant replay talk but it was a natural thought progression for me when talkin about poor officiating, every sport seems to be adopting some form of it, but there is no room for that in combat sports, although what i love most about mma is having a tendency for decisive victories… decisions are only tollerable in very exciting fights, then it doesn’t matter who wins because u got ur money’s worth anyway…. p.s. that’s why boxing blows these days, too many fighters afraid to get caught with a big punch leading to tons of clinching and boring decisions also ref’s who continually warn fighters for holding but never take points… i love boxing too but make those guys throw punches

Tangent sorry

That is the same question that I have been wondering. Amir has so much upside to him. You can tell that he is still a little raw, but once he joins up with one of the elite camps, his game will improve tremendously.

Looking at him, you would never guess that Amir is a fighter, nonetheless, a fighter with a 0-0 record that just won TUF. BUT, he has all of the tools that can not be taught. His “iron will”, his steel chin, his mental preparation, and yes, even his humility are all things that can not be taught.

They were giving out a lot more prize money for fights this season. 5K to win and an extra 5K for a stoppage. Amir pocketed 40K before he even had a fight in front of a live audience. Still, they could have given him the fancy cell phone with free service for life.

umm. both of those knock outs he suffered were from clean shots to the side of the head, so his chin really has no part of that, more like his nightlife caught up with him and allowed Cote and Rivera to get the drop on him and manhandle him. Either way I still consider him a B fighter at best, Maia, Marquardt, Palhares, franklin, Henderson, or Silva would kill him in the first round. I mean Cote and Rivera are both never will be’s and they both thrashed him in similar fashion.

Amir is the shit and just because he is quite doesn’t make him any less of a fighter than anyone else at his level. i’m glad he beat CB twice. is looked kinda rigged with CB anyways just graduating from ASU and holding a champions belt for wrestling anyways. Amir was just under-estimated severely. GO DOGG!!!!
