dont mean to get off subject guys…but in the last post i saw that the idea of bisping fighting the wiinner of Cote/Almeida fight for a title shot. well i saw the website for the fight and they are saying it a fight for a title shot! is this correct? is my boy Cote finally gonna get his chance at lime lite?

Its all just hype, no way Cote or Almeida should/will get a title fight any time soon.

Loads of great second tier match-ups but The Spider is way up there by himself.

that has nothing to do with anyone getting a title shot…silva maybe on another lvl…doesnt mean anyone else shouldnt get a shot at hime…losing to silva isnt the worst thing that can happen to your career.

lol! no way Cote may not be the best out there but he is higly underrated…if he could eat lebens and mcfedries punches..im sure he can handle bisping his first MW defeat by tko. the only thing i see being a factor here is cote’s ground game..we will see a test there.

yeah, that seems WAY HIGH, even in boxing that sounds WAY HIGH. No way dana would spent 200 mil in someone that he knows will lose to any decent MMA fighter. If this is true I’ll honestly be speechless, no one makes even a mil a fight, much less 200 mil…

He also claims that he got paid $200 million dollars to appear at Wrestlemania. YEAH RIGHT Money May.

He got more along the lines of $2 mil.

This $200 million must be his new random number that he likes to throw out there.

I didn’t read the link, because I know its not true.

HOWEVER, Dana did say that he has some kind of GIANT announcement to make this week…

But if he signed Floyd, he’d fight in the WEC because those would be his weights

Comment by b.w.
2008-06-09 14:44:10

200 mil would be 40 mil a year over the next 5 years. thats probably more per year than what the ufc pays all its fighters on the payroll right now. these #s are bogus. what would the rest of the ufc fighter say? maybee, just maybee its not out of the realm of them signing floyd for 1 fight, but that would be it. 1 mma fight would be all it would take for the “pretty boy” to retire again.

Floyd is simply too small to fight at 155. Mayweather is a SMALL WELTERWEIGHT. And in boxing, welterwieght is between 140 – 147 pounds. LW’s in the UFC cut at least 15 lbs, meaning they walk around at about 170. Mayweather does not walk around over 150.

I agree with you Fokman. It would make sense if ESPN took it. The coverage on ESPN’s MMA page has treated the sport with class. The show with Florian is great, it is like Sportscenter for MMA. I hope this is the deal. Although if it goes to ABC, ESPN would probably get it as well considering same ownership. Fingers crossed.

I personally would love to see Mayweather come to the UFC. Then the WEC would become even more like a proving ground for the UFC, with the UFC having its own 145lb division. Also it would put to rest the argument of a world class boxer vs an MMA fighter.

no it never will…its apples and oranges. if you took mayweather into a cage with someone with mma rules…they other guy would win…if he knows not to trade with mayweather lol…now same deal vice versa if that mma guy fought mayweather in boxing…mayweather would have a better fight with his sparring mates

Silva is not allowed to fight RJJ due to his contract. Mayweather can do what he wants and I’m sure if he wanted to fight in the UFC Dana would make it happen. Face it Mayweather vs ? would bring in more $ than even Fedor vs Randy could. I still don’t think Mayweather is coming though. Its a TV deal.

AND…RJJ is not washed up by any means. I wish he would come to MMA instead. He is a true fighter.

Lets just put this Floyd Mayweather BS to bed. Here’s a quote strait from Dana White:

Carmichael Dave of KHTK 1140 in Sacramento, California posted a text message he received from UFC president Dana White regarding Floyd Mayweather signing with the UFC and being the “huge announcement” that is expected to be announced on Thursday:

“LMFAO! Neeeeevver! I have been in london and just landed in NYC! If I was gonna pay 200 million (dollars), it would be to mixed martial artists who fight their fuckin’ asses off, not a bunch of pussy boxers that don’t fuckin’ fight. And you can quote me on that.”

White has also gone on record and stated that the “huge announcement” will not be a TV deal.

Heres the link directly to it:

The Mayweather talk is garbage, you’re foolish to think Dana White, of all people, is gonna put up that much money for Pretty Boy when he wouldn’t do it for Fedor? White has publicly said he thinks Floyd is garbage and has no business in a cage, so scratch that one off the conspiracy list. Seriously folks, I know it’s poking at everyones brain to know what this announcement is, but it’s only a couple more days, so lets all just be patient and stop speculating farfetched stuff…….though that fox deal sounds legit………

There’s no way the UFC is paying $200 million for ONE fighter in Mayweather. They just paid $65-$70 million for Pride – an entire organization consisting of how many fighters? – about 14 months ago.
I don’t think they’re preparded for another poor investment.

THEy didn’t buy PRIDE, they bought it, kept a few fighters, and then lied to us, the mma public about their intentions and, DESTROYED any intentions of having PRIDE vs the UFC or any GRANDPRIX…
THANKS!!!!

HOPEFULLY DANA will sell the ufc, as he said in rolling stone he’s not in the MMA buisness but the ufc buisness, and alls he cares about is the UFC as a brand, and himself.

I think JV is correct, UFC is making their own channel (like cubans HDNET) that would be great! All fights, all day! Especially now that the WEC is offical after the Faber/Pulver card, two orgs to deal with means a lot of TV time. Sorry spike, sorry Versus, it was fun. Or BJ Penn is defending his title gladiator style against a lion.

Comment by JV
2008-06-10 02:52:21

I was thinking that cause they sure have the money for it. And like you said UFC and WEC, they can put Fight Night, TUF, Unleashed, Wired, maybe make some kind of TUF for WEC to get 135 & 145ers.
