ufc 84 drug testsThe Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued the results of the drug tests performed prior to UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 24, revealing that all 15 fighters who were screened for banned substances tested negative.

BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Keith Jardine, Wanderlei Silva, Tito Ortiz, Lyoto Machida, Rousimar Palhares, Ivan Salaverry, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Sokoudjou, Rich Clementi, Yoshiyuki Yoshida, Shane Carwin, Thiago Silva, Foran Reljic and Dong Hyun Kim were all among the fighters who were randomly selected to provide samples before their fights.

The tests are designed to deter fighters from ingesting performance enhancing drugs such as steroids and stimulants, as well drugs of abuse like marijuana, heroin, etc.

NSAC has adopted a new year-round drug-testing policy, which is perhaps the strictest of its kind in the sport.

In fact, the NSAC also tested Sherk, Penn and Ortiz weeks out from the pay-per-view (PPV) event to ensure that fighters don’t “cycle” off of substances prior to their tests.

The tests were random — there was no other reason the fighters mentioned above we singled out.

However, Sherk has tested positive for steroids in the past and Keith Kizer, NSAC executive director, has mentioned that previous failed tests will be a factor (among others) when it comes to deciding if a fighter should or should not be tested.

Hopefully all the idiots with their PRIDE Conspiracy theories of Wanderlei only winning in PRIDE because he was on ROIDS are now officially IRRELEVANT and should be banned from this SITE!!!

I don’t think Wandy won b/c of roids, but I still think he took them. He’s a small LHW as it is, so it’s understandable if he took them to level the playing field in terms of size, since there were no regulations anyways.

Wanderlei looked bigger for this fight. I think he may have overtrained for the Liddell fight because he was a lot bigger this time. As far as what he did in Pride, who cares! Pride is dead and has been for a while now but some people just won’t let it go. Last time I checked, Wanderlei fights for the UFC and he is happy as ever with the orginazation he fights for.

Lucky for BJ, that’s probably not goign to happen, but with all the training injuries lately, who knows.
Lay off the plyometrics guys.

Why are you so eager to see BJ lose again?

I thought you liked him?

These arent arguemnets im willing to have. I have confidence in BJ and im not worried about him fighting anyone of the human race. Til saturday night i was crazy to think BJ could even stand in the same ring as kimbo, i believe someone said “You need help man” now what??? How would Kimbo fair against BJ now . . . It would be a slaughter and saturday night proved it. Til two saturdays ago Sean Sherk would out cardio BJ any day of the week and was wayyyyy stronger than Penn huh, now what??? When it comes to GSP my stance doesnt change, he’ll go down like the rest of them, the tests keep upping the anty and BJ keeps playing his cards to victories. Ask yourself the same question your possing to a joke to me but ask it for real, “why does he want BJ to fight GSP so bad?” Yea man, its cause i want him to lose or is i cause im positive he’s goin to win HIS belt back. I dont hear George begging for another trip to the hospital, i dont even think hes said BJ’s name since that interview in the hospital. AND dont tell me its cause GSP’s past BJ, GSP doesnt care about BJ cause he beat him already. To act like BJ isnt the real #1 contender in the Welter weight division and the biggest/only threat to GSP’s crown proves your ignorance.

Um, I thinking your making up an underdog senario man.
Whether you were a BJ fan or not, the smart money was on BJ to win that fight over Sherk.
The only thing Sherk potentially had over BJ was cardio and strength. BJ Didn’t show he’s stronger, he showed he was a better striker, and a better fighter.

I’m not trying to take anything away from BJ, but he beat a guy he was supposed to beat. Let’s not turn it into Rocky.
He might beat Kimbo (but kimbo sucks), the guy’s got like a 100 pounds on him. He’d have to dodge him and pick away til he tired and then capitalize; he’s not gonna shove Kimbo around.

BJ dominates the LW division, the same way, GSP and Silva dominate thier division.

I think BJ would be a force at WW, but I really don’t see him beating GSP, and I think anyone who’s judgment isn’t clouded by extreme favouritism for their favourite fighter can objectively say that GSP wins this fight.
We all know anything can happen though.

Thats like saying Mir has better ground than Lesnar, does it matter if you cant use it? SO BJ doesnt need to show that hes stronger than Sherk, he just neds to beat him, a W’s a W. BUT everyone before hand was saying SHerk was stronger (and maybe he is) and that his strength would win the fight or his cardio but it didnt cause he couldnt get close enough for his L/P to work, he couldnt last long enough for his cardio to be a factor. LETS FIND A WAY TO AGREE PIMP: GSP wins BJ wins, regardless, will it be an amazing fight? I think so. No slaughter on either fighters behalf, most likely a decision unless one of them make a mistake (and with BJs precision technique at al facets of the game i would think GSP would make that mistake, IMO) but that doesnt make him a loser or something, its just a mistake and someone had to make it for there to be a winner. BUT An amazing fight . . . Yes or No? The fight WE both want to see . . . Yes or No?? I would say YES and i think you would to. We both love MMA and this fight is MMA’s possible pinicle or apex if you will or would you not?

I wasn’t saying he needed to show he was stronger.
He just needs to beat him, which he did, convincingly. (I would have liked to see what would have happened there but Sherk couldn’t or wouldn’t take it there, and BJ was content to beat him standing)

We can agree that for sure it’d be a good match between GSP and BJ.
Without someone being caught with a big shot (which neither fighter is known for), I think it’d be a 3rd or 4th rounder or maybe even decision.

I’d like to see it, but GSP and Penn both just became the “undisputed” champions of their divisions again. I think they need to clear out some of their top competitors before they start jumping weight classes.

Mr. NC-17: Will it actually air at 3 pm? So far I only see it advertised for 10:00 on pay per view in the USA. I really would like it to on at 3:00 in the afternoon. Go to HOoters and get a little tipsy, while I chomp, away at some wings n cheese fries…..

Not all the fighters are selected randomly — the participants in the main event and the co-main event are always selected for drug testing by NSAC.
