ultimate iceman

Props: UFC.com

Quoteworthy:

“Beginning at 11 a.m. today, the UFC takes over Spike TV with a day and night’s worth of hard-hitting action capped off by a special two-hour tribute to mixed martial arts legend Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell. Kicking off with a marathon of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs Team Forrest, the kicks and punches continue with Ultimate Knockouts 4 at 8 p.m. ET, and then at 9 p.m. ET, the premiere of the in-depth documentary, “Ultimate Iceman.” But that’s not all, as the night is capped off at 10 p.m. ET by the main event of all main events, the never before seen on Spike TV battle between Liddell and ‘The Axe Murderer’, Wanderlei Silva.”

This is just a reminder that the UFC is offering some good old fashioned counter-programming on Spike TV tonight for those who don’t want to watch Elite XC: “Primetime” on CBS at 9 p.m. ET. It’s also a reminder for those fans who watch Elite XC to program their DVRs.

Even though Chuck is one of my fav’s I’d have to say bad idea on the part of spike and UFC for putting this on during the Elite Xc fights. Whoever says they arent going to watch free MMA is lying through there teeth. A majority of MMA fans are hoping that Kimbo’s gets KTFO, and i know a majority will be watching. Smith vs Lawler should be exciting, and of course i wanna watch Gina, who wouldnt…

I agree, in the sense that although any other day most MMA fans would consider this to be a treat, airing this while the Elite XC event however does not really compare to watching live MMA.

Part of me just wants to see the quality of the overall production of the Elite XC event. I really hope this event shows the full depth of MMA to the masses.

My plan at the moment is to watch the EliteXC event live and tape the Spike programming for later viewing. If the EliteXC events sucks I won’t hesitate to switch programming. In any event, it’s a great time for MMA. Who’d have ever thought we’d be forced to choose between multiple programs showing simultaneously?

Did you really write “no better”? Your grammar and your spelling and your punctuation is absolutely atrocious! This maybe to arcane of statement for you to comprehend but eduactional facilities in your hometown do offer some after school specials for the learning impaired. Please for my sake, everybody on this site’s sake and most importantly everybody that you work with at Wal-Mart’s sake, learn to read and write. Contrary to your popular belief, ignorance is not bliss!

Ray, you might want to check your spelling also .. I believe “eduactional” is actually spelt EDUCATIONAL.

Who the hell wants to see a 2 hour special on overated chuck? i mean if you are going to do a special on a UFC legend it shoulda of just been one the two that have done more for the UFC, TITO or RANDY…errr i guess dana dispises both of the guys who have made the ufc what it is today so…nevermind.

I don’t understand why anyone likes EXC. It’s done nothing good for the sport and gives us shitty fights like Kimbo vs. JT all while being ran from a trashy boxing promoter who couldn’t even keep his own sport popular.

I’d much rather watching anything about Liddell than that trash EXC.

thats exactly what your comment was, blah. Chuck is not overated, and as far as tito and randy… Well lets say didn’t chuck hand both of them their butts in the fights except for his and randy’s first. tito would never been a 5 time champ if he would not have ducked chuck for so long. when chuck wins the lhw title again lets see if he walks out on the fans like randy. Ya! legends of the sport? LOL

I just programmed my dvr to record the fights tonight and CBS is promoting it as Robbie Lawler vs Scott Steel….Hilarious!

As far as the UFC airing the Chuckathon, I say cool! DVRs people, if you don’t have one, get one!

On another note, I’m reading Chuck’s book - it’s really good and definitely makes me root for him a little more. I would def recommend it.

Not mentioned is the fact that Chuck was supposed to be fighting in the main event next weekend and this was probably scheduled (by Spike TV, not just UFC propaganda) for quite sometime as a promo to lead into UFC 85.

While we know what Dana thinks about Gary Shaw and opposing promotions. He is not above trying to take away their viewers. But Spike probably has its agenda also. It is after all Spike’s highest rated programming and they would rather viewers not find other channel options for MMA.

Not to break away from the ICEMAN but has anyone just seen the Elite XC intro? Are you kidding me the biggest night in MMA history. What a joke! Don’t get me wrong there are some good fights but far from the biggest night in MMA.

I never said you were being a d*ck chefdaddy, the reason why i have to post under this name is because, me and Adam G that post’s on here made a bet. I thought Sherk would beat BJ and He Knew BJ would beat Sherk. So i have to post under BJ”s#1Nuthugger now, if Sherk would have won he would have had to post as Sherk’s@1Nuthugger. I lost the bet so i gotta man up

Anyone hating on what the UFC did should just take a pill. After watching that EliteXC event I feel completely justified with all my previous trash talk of EliteXC.

That was not MMA - that was an MMA-WWE hybrid. I was waiting the whole event for some WWE star to rush out with a chair. At least that would have been a different type of stoppage as opposed to a doctor’s stoppage. Come on everyone - a dance squad? Pyrotechnics? And commentators obviously reading off of teleprompters? Wow EliteXC is really posing a threat to UFC. I wish Kimbo would fight a real opponent.

My friends and I watched the whole Liddell event from DVR afterwards. With the exception of the Lawler Smith fight. UFC put on a better show and everything was a rerun.

The good side is everyone - that there is a real MMA event for free this weekend. Thank you WEC!
