It’s another battle of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) contestants as season six alumnus Matt “No Regard” Arroyo (3-1) is scheduled to face season seven’s Matt Brown (6-6) on The Ultimate Fighter 7 finale at The Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 9 p.m. ET on SpikeTV.
MMAmania.com exclusively learned of the welterweight bout earlier this evening.
This match is not the first meeting between the two. Brown holds a second-round TKO victory over the Cobleskill native from their November 2006 fight during Real Fighting Championship 7 at Tampa’s USF Sun Dome.
TUF 6 notwithstanding, Arroyo is 2-0 since that bout, last defeating John Kolosci via submission (armbar) at the Ultimate Fighter 6 finale last December. Brown on the other hand last fought UFC veteran Chris Lytle at Indiana’s United Fight League where he was submitted in the second round by a guillotine choke.
This should be an interesting rematch between two competitors who are pretty evenly matched.
TUF 7 Finale will feature the middleweight showdown between former 185-pound champion, Evan Tanner, and TUF 3 middleweight winner, Kendall Grove. In addition, Diego Sanchez will meet Luigi Fioravanti in a welterweight tilt and the finalists from this season of TUF will meet in the finals to determine the tournament winner.

WTF? I thought Matt Brown was still climbing his way up the current TUF ladder? This information seems premature. Am I missing something here? Is this an epic FAIL on my part?
Epic indeed.
MMA NEWS OF THE DAY:
Ben Rothwell confirms fight against Arlovski under Affliction! Good Stuff!
Shogun responds to Sokoudjou for calling him out.
Here is the link to both stories: http://www.fightline.com
Also Ryo Chonan is official pulled out of the UFC 85 fight and will be replaced with some dude I have never heard of!
HE JUST LOST TO AMIR! Matt Arroyo takes this one by Submission.
AWWWW Man!! I’ve got it TVO’d and was getting ready to watch it. You suck muffin ass.
You should know better to be cruising the site if you have yet to watch the episode. No sympathy.
Agreed. I watched the episode at 3am when I woke up to take a piss because I passed out last night during the game. If I didn’t get a chance to watch it, I wouldnt have came to this site - of course you’ll find out who won. Even if you go to a totally unrelated thread, someone can still talk about the episode.
i agree arroyo by submission
Here’s how is see the fight going:
Fight stays standing long enough for a KO = Matt Brown wins.
Fight goes to the ground for more than 60 consecutive seconds, Matt Arroyo wins.
Brown needs to simply work on his takedown defense and I see this fight ending no differently than thier first fight.
This should be a good fight. I enjoy watching both guys compete and think that both have a promising future in the UFC…all though I did not like Arroyo refusing to take the fight with Danzig back on the last TUF season.
ViolentMike: I told you at the beginning of TUF that I thought Amir would be more of a sleeper then a goofeball. Not that I had any evidence to back it up, but it was a good guess…The kid’s got a nice game, and a great head for fighting.
No doubt John. I responded in the TUF episdoe thread,
matt lost to amir? wow. never thought it was possible
is arroyo going up in weight or brown coming down??
its a welterweight bout so brown went down
brown is coming down.
I knew he looked too small for MW. When Jesse Taylor and Matt Brown stand next to each other, it looks like they are 2 weight divisions apart. I would have used that “c-word” that usually comes after “weight” when speaking about divisions, but then I’d get moderated. (a tip to the newbies)
Arroyo by flying gogo
MMAMANIA……..
You guys here at MMAMANIA are usually the first to announce upcoming match-ups, not always first, but a lot of the time I hear news of announced fights HERE.
Then, within an hour sites exponentially around the net announce it also, sometimes with a shout out to mmamania, other times not. Does that ever piss you off? Especially when you say it is exclusive and you are the first to announce it???
5 oz of Pain are great at scanning other mma sites and posting news that OTHER sites got on their own and posting on 5 oz of Pain, with a short thanks to mmamania??? WTF is that??? You guys research it or have the connections and other sites post it. I am telling you…a lot of readers probably dont realize or notice that when these sites do this. I think it is B.S. I use 5 oz as an example because they are great at doing it and of course there are many others?? I mean as soon as you annonced this one, it was up on 5 oz shortly thereafter. that is messed up.
Doesnt that bother you??? That you do all the work, then other sites post almost the same thing with a tiny little thanks or “touch of glovers” somewhere in the post that MANY DO NOT EVEN NOTICE, therefore do not realize who is stealing and who actually did the work???
Well isn’t it good that the information is spread on the net so that more will know???
If its public domain then complaining makes no sense.
I bet they take pride on this site if they have a story out first and are amused if people copy stories.
I find it lame that this site only has a UFC schedule and UFC results when its call “MMA”mania now.
Why even cover other orgs if you won’t make a schedule/results section.
Yeah this place used to be called UFCmania but hopefully it’ll actually be a well rounded MMA site someday.
You make a fair point, and it is something we are working on
Indeed.
That would be great. Especially since we already got John unofficially posting news from every other site here on mania!!!!!
THANK YOU JOHN!
Anytime….I never hold back, I pass along what I read.
The fighters on this season are so mediocre, that, instead of having them fight each other on the finale, they have to bring in fighters from old seasons to compete.
Seriously, though… There are some quality fights on the finale card that don’t involve castmembers. I think it’s good that most of these guys aren’t simply going to get a fight, they’re going to have to earn it. For instance, Matt Brown. Sure, he lost to Amir in the quarterfinals, but he showed that he’s willing to get in there and bang, and he loves to fight. Dana will give guys like that a shot to pick up a win on finale night. A guy like Dante Rivera, not so much.
ahhh man u spoiled it for us folks in the UK! We dont get to see the ultimate fighter till saturday
I grab it from newgroups and watch it on Thursday in UK but The recap of each episode is always a good read and funny so I don’t mind knowing who wins these fights. For the big events not shown in the UK live its different I have to force myself not to look on here in case I see the results.I did see the results once ages ago and it totally ruined it for me when I came to watch knowing all the outcomes, trouble was my wife watches and she didn’t know I knew so I had to fake my amazement of the ko’s etc lol. (Still she probably fakes it in the bedroom so I guess im equal)
Arroyo should win easily via submission. Matt Brown could have avoided that triangle. Maybe he needs glasses. He could have postured and stood with ease.
I am a big Jorge Gurgel guy, and I always root for his fighters, and I like Matt Brown a lot, but if he is going to let an inexpierenced jitsu guy like Amir “sink in” and Triangle Choke, once the thing hits the ground Arroyo will submit him.
I read the Gary shaw interview in Johns link and boy does he go after Dana white… Calling him all sorts of stuff!
Matt Brown sucks big time. And this season of the ultimate fighter has been less than impressive. Not a single fighter has shown any real potential.
Matt Brown is a fucking warrior what are you talking about. Chris Lytle said he was one of the toughest guys he has gone against. The guy he lost to might win the whole thing. If you wanna talk crappy fighters on the show. That guy Brandon with the mohawk, he’s low level fighter. He kept getting clinched with Dante, and did not change his game plan the whole fight. And Dante, talk about lay and pray. Most boring jujitsu guy I have ever seen. I have more standup than this guy. I am serious. And his wrestling is not good. This guy belongs in a abu dabai tournament not MMA. Did you see his fight the other night. That was tediously boring and besides an occasional submission attempt he was not doing anything.
