Castmates on season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — Manny Gamburyan (8-2) and Rob Emerson (7-6) — will hook ‘em up at UFC 87: “Seek and Destroy” at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 9, according to 15Rounds.com.
Since losing to Nate Diaz in the finals of the 16-man lightweight tournament at the TUF 5 Finale back in June 2007, Gamburyan has put together impressive back-to-back submission wins. He just bout took Nate Mohr’s ankle home with him at UFC 79: “Nemesis” and he choked out Jeff Cox his last time out at UFC Fight Night 13 in April.
Both fights lasted less than four minutes combined.
Emerson rebounded from a rare double knockout-tapout against Gray Maynard at TUF 5 Finale, which resulted in a no contest, to defeat Keita Nakamura via split decision at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” in February. It was actually the fifth straight win (sans the Maynard fight) for the former “Lords of South County” rich kid gang member.
The UFC 87 card is filling up fast, considering that, according to the same report, Gamburyan’s cousin, Karo Parisyan, is slated for the same show.
It’s a pay-per-view (PPV) event that features a world title fight between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch, as well as a heavyweight showdown between Brock Lesnar and Heath Herring.

Why oh why does the UFC continue to let this thug Emerson fight. He was horrible on the show. He got 2 chance’s on tuff and couldnt pull out a win. Now because he got a split dec over Nakamura they are gonna let him fight again. Are you kidding me. After his Lords of the South County Bing, I cant respect the UFC’s decision to let this kid continue to fight in its organization. I know everyone makes mistake’s and deserve’s a second chance. But like i said he got 2 fights on tuf and lost them both. Gray knocked his ass out as well….
I agree. Manny has proven to deserve a better competitor than emerson. Give him Tyson Griffin or at least someone in the top 15. I imagine emerson has a contract and once its up he will disappear for good.

Where is Season 5’s “Winner?” Nate Diaz and Manny should be having a rematch of their Ultimate Fighter championship. It’s already been two seasons of TUF since we last saw them battling. I used to think that Nate didn’t deserve his title but he has become a force in the UFC. Manny deserves another crack at him to prove what we already know: Manny was winning the TUF championship. It it hadn’t been for his injury, Manny would be TUF5 champion.
As far as Emerson, there are other much better fighters from that season that could have been fighting Manny. Oh well, it will be one to watch.
Why would Manny have won? Because he won the first round on the score cards? By no means does that mean that he would have won the fight. Dan Henderson dominated Anderson Silva in round 1. If he got injured at the end of the round and couldn’t continue, not everyone would be saying that Hendo had the fight in the bag, because quite obviously, he didn’t. Nate is known for coming back for a submission victory. Did you see his fight against Gray? Did you see him fight Pellegrino? Do you know who the Diaz brothers are???

It wasn’t even just Emerson attacking an untrained dude; it was Emerson and about 9 of his buddies attacking two regular joes. That is more than enough reason to rip someone without being called a hater.
How has Emerson made the recent cutback? If you count his 2 losses on UF5 then he’s 7-8. There is room in the WEC for him.
