Was this a blessing in disguise for the UFC and Brock Lesnar?

Mark “The Hammer” Coleman will no longer face Brock Lesnar in the UFC 87: “Seek and Destroy” co-main event after suffering a knee injury, according to UFC.com.

Minnesota product and former WWE wrestling superstar-turned mixed martial artist, Brock Lesnar, was to be showcased in a featured bout of the evening against Coleman, a recent Hall of Fame inductee and the first-ever UFC heavyweight champion.

Many fans groaned at the prospect of Lesnar taking on the elder statesman, seeing it as a mismatch to help Lesnar rebound from his submission loss during his debut against Frank Mir at UFC 81 back in February.

The UFC has promised to announce a replacement shortly.

While it’s fun to speculate that the UFC could pull a white rabbit out of its hat and announce the re-signing of deposed heavyweight Andrei Arlovski, it’s doubtful the UFC would risk Lesnar’s rising star with an opponent of that caliber.

Still, there is plenty of talent from which to choose. And depending on the choice, it could ultimately prove to be a better fight for Lesnar … and the fans.

Let the rumor mill begin swirling.

I had coleman winning too. Heath herrig is going to fill in (I hope) and show Lesner the door out of the UFC!

BS… Roy Nelson? (6 3 0)..Hes beat who, Brad Imes. and lost to Mario Rinaldi(who?). And has anyone seen him fight?…but i guees Roy would be the only guy reasonable enough to see Lesnar demonstrate his mean GnP on…

I have seen Nelson fight a couple of times in the IFL. This really does not matter to me because I honestly do not get to hyped up about seeing a Brock Lesner fight at this point in his career….I am much more curious to evaluate the level of his progress from fight to fight then I am Excited to actually see the fight. The HW division sucks, and the UFC wont make the same mistake ofmatching him up against a tough fighter again anytime soon after the Mir fight….so its whatever…

The only thing that Brock could excite me with is if he pulls off a Cray Rampage-like-slam or something Wild like that and copmpletely KO’s his oppoenent.

Regardless of who he fights…My prediction is Brock Lesner via Flying arm bar! LOL What!

Rashad Evans should moved back to heavyweight for one fight. I know it won’t happen but it’s interesting to think. He needs a fight and he’s a good wrestler. It might be a good fight. He is small so it might be too much to over come and realistically their not going to risk either fighter momentum or two fight losing streak in Lesnar’s case. But the heavyweights are so unproven yet. It needs to be someone with a name but not a great fighter. Why not bring Cabbage in he’s unlikely to get pounded out real quick but I can;t see him wining. who knows?

I think they should give Kongo a call. Rashad honestly I don’t think he’s a very big Lh either. Also I thuoght Arlovski was having negotiations to fight Big Ben.

Kongo would get taken down, and never be able to get back up. But I guess it could be considered punishment for his Heath Herring fight.

Holy hell! Did they just mention signing Arlovski and throwin him in with Lesnar? I dont know if I like that, but the UFC could always lure Arlovski with, “Main event fight, you win, you get a title shot”. I personally am taking the no-show signing with Affliction as a sign the UFC stepped in. Lets hope so anyway.

Rashad Evans fighting Brock Lesnar? Now, Evans doesn’t have just a huge following, and I dont think the UFC is pinning him as the next big light-heavyweight champ, but having him mauled by Lesnar would kill any momentum they have with Evans still being undefeated and whatnot.

You heard it here first, Brock Lesnar vs Heath Herring or Cheick Kongo. The fight will be offered to Herring first, then Kongo when/if Herring turns it down.

Guaranteed a guy like Gonzaga doesn’t get a call. UFCs not puttin Lesnar back in the Octagon with anybody with really good jiu-jitsu. Gonna throw in a stand up fighter.

Herring is way too well rounded to fight Brock Lesnar. Brock MUST be matched up with a 1 dimensional, non-BJJ fighter so that he can take the guy down and pound him out for a win.

OK, I guess mike22 beat me to Herring, but, I still got Kongo out there. And, I’m thinkin Kongo is more likely. Good fighter. Recognizable name to UFC fans, but he’s not just really really good. A step below Herring, who might be dangerous.

Kongo is set to fight dan evenson on the same card so i could see them switching him to fight brock cause as you said herring is a more dangerous fight for brock and we all know they cant afford lesner to lose another fight. even though from the little i saw from lesner i think he could beat both of them but the ufc will most likley give him the easiest fight they can!

As much as Dana cries about Kimbo im sure he would love to put on his own circus fight for huge $$$$$ WWE/Nascar fans would make it a record breaking event.
It wont happen but i thought id throw it out there. If ya like it keep it , if not you can throw it back.

Right now there are a BUNCH of heavyweights looking at their phone praying Dana doesn’t call them to fight Lesnar. This isn’t being said cuz I’m some huge Brock fan either. You need a decent HW to give him a good fight, but where’s the benefit in fighting a newcomer, who win or lose, is going to put something of a beatdown on your @ss? It’s a shame the HW ranks are so thin, or they could start a superheavyweight division.

this is a no brainer. pull kongo out of his match and you would have battle of the beasts… that would be awesome. kongo is questionable on the ground and lesnar would have a chance to get a big win without worrying too much about jj.
im glad colemans out he saved himself a beating. this card is shaping up to be awesome

there aren’t many heavywieght fighters in the UFC. top 4 fighters Lesnar should fight Heath Herring, Cheik Kongo, Shane Carwin the new guy 8-0-0 6′4 265 lb debuting on ill will, then the last but not least Gonzaga. UFC, please sign more heavywieghts.

The other wrestler that was mention above is Bobby Lashly. He’s ex military so he probably won’t quit, but I’m not sure of his fighting skills. If I remember right He’s a collegiate wrestler also. He has to be about the same size as Lesner. But if the’re going to bring Lashly in they would probably take the same approach they are with Lesner Try to build him up. He is very well know in wrestling circles, so they could defiantly capitalize on that fan base some more. But I’d be surprised if it happened.

Shane Carwin would be the best choice because it would be a win-win situation for the UFC. These two huge beasts fighting one another would draw a ton of PPV buys from the casual fans to go along with all the educated fans buying the card for the other two big fights. The winner of the fight would become a huge star to casual fans… bigger than Kimbo Slice. The loser wouldn’t lose much face at all since he lost to a huge beast rather than a smaller wussy man. I don’t think the UFC will do it, but if they do, I predict the biggest pay per view buy ever.

If it is the biggest PPV ever, it would not be because of a Brock Lesnar-Shane Carwin fight. We are all stupider for having read that, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Kongo would be a good matchup since his ground game is suspect. I got to admit when I first read this I was thinking I hope this card doesn’t become like 85 with a whole bunch of changes due to injuries.
