jason day
I am heading into the last portion of my training camp now with three weeks remaining until my fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.

My conditioning coach, Kenny Seaman, breaks my routine into three phases when I fight:

  1. Weights and strength training
  2. Torturous plyometrics
  3. Sport specific training (my favorite)

I love the final phase because it is very intense and gets me ready to fight. It involves a lot of sprinting and bringing in fresh teammates to beat on me between intervals. This is actually the one time when I look forward to conditioning because it feels just like a fight and I have my team there helping me through the intensity.

I took the long weekend off to relax and focus in the Rockies and now I am ready to grind out my last two weeks of training. I will train right up until the Friday before I leave and then continue to stay loose throughout the week by jogging and hitting pads.

My training is going great I feel like I never missed a beat from my last fight and just picked up where I left off. I had a ton of support behind me for my first fight here in Canada but it feels like support is just gaining momentum for this one.

I am the lone Canadian on the card so I feel the whole country is behind me for this fight.

Jason Day is a top Canadian mixed martial artist who was successful in his Octagon debut against Alan Belcher at UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2″ on April 19. UFC President Dana White referred to his performance that night as “amazing” and has rewarded him with a high profile fight against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 light heavyweight winner, Michael Bisping. Day is on a red hot five-fight win streak, which he will put on the line against “The Count” at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. He’ll detail his preparation for the bout right here at MMAmania.com with frequent updates. He would like to thank his sponsors Hardcor Fightwear & Apparel and BodyArt Fitness. I am glad that you(Jason) were giving this opportunity to show the world that you are ready for the big leagues and that Bisping is just an average fighter the UFC has made look like a superstar to average fans.

I cant wait for you to KTFO of Bisping and expose him as the, well, “average” fighter he is. Bisping has been hand fed very beatable opponents. I cant wait to see your fight. Of course he is capable of winning, but I hink that finally he will have a strong and better fighter in front of him and will be lost….just like the Hammil fight. Hammil was stronger and injured with not much in the sense of striking skills.

I hope you bring your A game and put on a clinic. I wish you the best and hope you get a highlight, KO of the night fight!!!!!

If Doomsday is a +250 underdog, or more…I will bet Doomsday….Regardless, I will be rooting for “The COUNT”!!!

Those are about the same odds that I’m going to be looking for John. However, I don’t think that we’ll get it. +200 is possible, but keep in mind that for the TupperWare fight, Bisping was -350 and I believe Tupperware was +275. I KNOW Bisping was -350 cuz I bet on him.

I’m a Bisping fan too, but DoomsDay at +250, hell even +200, might be too good to pass up.

VM; u r right. He wont go up to +250… Hopefully the odds wont get that high because I will have a hard time betting against Bisping. I think 185 suits him much better and I have a feeling he will be coming into his own and be tough to stop in that division.

Plus I just dont like betting against the count…I bet on him a lot and he has been good to me.. Keep in mind I had him over Hamil! Whoooooo!

Can’t wait for this fight Jason and, while I’m not able to speak for all Canadians, I know this one will be cheering loudly for you on June 7th). Sounds like things are going according to plan as far as camp goes (pretty nice Alberta May long weekend to “relax and focus” for your big fight).
I, unlike some others, respect Bisping and think he’s a legit threat at 185, making your impending destruction of him all the more impressive. Take out Bisping, not to prove he’s an “average” middleweight but, to prove to any doubters that you are a force at 185.

fightfan – thats what everyone keeps saying about bisping but it hasn’t been proved yet? 1.Hamill was a bigger guy and Bisping got up from his takedowns at will. 2.Evans who is Bispings only defeat spent 2 rounds trying to cuddle and make love to Bisping and Bisping again got up at will? i think you call it wrestling. all others have been destroyed. schafer and mcarthy both claimed bisping was average. Day you havent got a chance! your in Mike Bispings way of a title shot and he will destroy you!

They’re a LOT of guys between Bisping and a title shot. Honestly, what makes you think he could defeat Hendo, Franklin or Okami?

Tony, folks will hate on Bisping all the way through his career. If he was holding the belt and had defeated everyone in the division twice over via first round KO.

They will all be eating humble pie come 7th June.

Dead wrong. It’s a tired arguement that I just don’t feel like getting into again. When Bisping beats someone substantial, he’ll BECOME substantial.

Being that Bisping is in front of his home fans will give him the edge on this one although it should be interesting as they are both coming off some good victories.

They are both definately capable of a KO and don’t see it going the distance.

Bisping definately looks good at 185 and looks by far the best weight for him.

For all the people talkin shit about him just because he beat hamill in a close decision….get over it already!! I was there for that fight and although I thought he just lost others around me didn’t. As it was it could have gone either way but he should have won another close one against Evans IMO and it was probably karma that he didn’t.

Prediction: Bisping 2nd round TKO!

I think Day has got a pretty good shot here. He beat Belcher who is (arguably) about as good as Bisping. I still would consider it a bit of an upset, but certainly not a huge one.

I think Belcher took Day lightly, which I can’t see Bisping doing.

I’ve always thought Belcher thought he was much better than he actually was, not to take anything away from Day but I think Bisbing will be much tougher.

That’s a good point. Belcher is definitely cocky whereas Bisping is on the cocky slash confident borderline. Whoever wins this fight will probably get propelled into fighting a top 5 middleweight next.

It is amazing how many are on the Bisping wagon?????

He was hand fed and babied even on TUF 3. that show had the ABSLUTE WEAKEST CAST of fighters. I dont even believe any of them are still even fighting??(Think about it)

Bisping beat Pointon and Haynes. What an accomplishment, BOTH are WW that cant even win in smaller shows. The UFC likes to place him against VERY one dimensional grapplers. Yes grapplers because Schaffaer and McCarthy ARE not fighters. They need to go back to grappling contests. Hammil, who doesnt have much skills at all, other than being strong and a great wrestler threw Bisping around like a rag doll. And the only reason he got thw W is because the JUDGES were UFC paid employees. And Hammil was injured and LET Bisping get up the few times he took him down. And Evans is a small 205, probably better suited at 185 beat Bisping and Rashad was OUT OF SHAPE and gassed in the 2nd round and still won

So hopw can anyone think that he is a good fighter???? What did he accomplish???? Who has he beat??? NOBODIES!!!!!

Now that he has to face a striker that has a decent game. Mayeb Bisping will finally b e exposed for what he really is, AN AVERAGE FIGHTER
