chuck liddell

“His injury’s not good. He can barely bend over and tie his shoe. He tore his leg real bad. It’s pretty nasty…. I know the doctor told him to kind of play it by ear. It’s one of those things that can heal in six days, or it could heal in 16 weeks. The doctor doesn’t really know. It depends on how fast Chuck can recover.”

– UFC President Dana White talks with FOXSports.com about the hamstring injury that Chuck Liddell recently sustained training for his fight with Rashad Evans at UFC 85: “Bedlam” in London, England, on June 7. He had to withdraw from the fight and there is no timetable for the return of the 39-year-old former light heavyweight champion. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua — who is also recovering from an injury — has encouraged “Iceman” to wait until he is 100 percent so the two can lock horns once and for all sometime in late 2008.

Man this sucks, i hope he can be close to a 100% to face shogun in December. The last thing i want is for this injury to be a factor in the fight……….

Now we find out what sort of patience Chuck has. If he tries to rush it and tears it again…

I think Dana is having a problem with the LHW division. Rampage and Forrest haven’t fought what seems like forever due to their (acting) roles in TUF, Ortiz is leaving, Rashad is injured as well, Keith Jardine got de-hyped by the KO loss against Houston Alexander, who in turn got de-hyped by two harsh TKO’s against Tiago Silva and James Irvin.

Who’s left?

Well, Tiago Silva of course, but his name does not yet fill seats. James Irvin is even less known and lost to Tiago some time ago, so its not a very attractive matchup. Leben is jailed, Sakara doesn’t perform.

The former up-and-comers Kalib Starnes, Jason MacDonald, Terry Martin are not in the UFC any more, Dan Henderson will probably stick with the middleweight, Kendall Grove’s rumored potential never materialized… it’s looking bleak.

I hope both Shogun and Chuck recover and give us something that resembles Lidell-Silva.

Are you drunk? I am and I still know Leban, Sakara, Starns, MacDonald, Martin and Grove are all middleweights. Jason MacDonald has not left the UFC he just KOed Dorkeson in Canada. Also, Irvin did not lose to Tiago he blew out his knee. Have another.

lol - had a decent brainfart there in the middle of the post it seems. Regardless, the first part holds true and beside Tiago I don’t see a big up-and-comer left in the LHW division, do you?

2008-05-18 11:46:11

LOL. That was a sweet brainfart.

I really like Wilson Gouveia at LHW. Joe Silva should have matched Tiago agaisn’t him for UFC 84, but assuming they both win next weekend they should fight later this year. IMO the winner of that fight would definatly break into the top 10 and probably be 1 win away from a title shot.

i still don’t see how the division is depleeting either i kinda see it going the opposite way, you didn’t mention machida at all, brandon vera has made it clear he intends on fighting 2 divisions, hendo will probably do the same, franklin is thinking about going up in weight…

This is good news for my boi Lyoto Machida. Perhaps Machida will get a title shot by the end of the year? If Machida beats Tito then put him in No#1 Contenders fight against Jardine(if Jardine can pass Silva) or someone else worthy in August. Winner faces Rampage/Forrest in December. Lyoto Machida is crowned LHW Champ, has a 10 year reign at the top, retires as champion. This is pretty mcuh the way its gonna be so don’t argue.

I hope Chuck does wait and comes back 100%. I think Chuck would destroy Shogun worse than Wandy.

I hope he does to and doesnt do something stupid like blow it out agian trying to train. That was a nasty tear, he just needs to heal that leg up and come back in like October or so. I think Chuck vs. Shogun would be a better fight than Chuck vs. Wanderlei. I dont know if Shogun will have the patience that Wanderlei showed in their fight. I can see Shogun trying to rush in on Chuck thinking he can overwhelm him and from there I see Chuck getting a KO which he hasnt had in about a year and a half. I guess only time will tell.

Yeah, I was totally wondering “what could possibly be the status of Chuck’s hamstring injury?” “Is Dana giving him a reach around?” Will Chuck and Shogun fight 6 months from now? Hopefully we’ll get updated on this every couple of weeks or so. Keep Chuck with lots of press even though he’s lying around being cuddled by Dana, wondering when he’s going to get another title shot.

these injuries can reoccur easily if not fully recovered.. they might just save him for end of year dec fight against someone like machida, shogun, or loser of forrest/rampage, or jardine rematch even that would be awesome

I think Lyoto Machida is the biggest up and comer in the lhw division right now, with Thiago Silva closely trailing. I think if Jardine beats Silva (which im pretty confident he will) it will dispell the knockout to Houston. There’s also Matt Hammil, Wilson Gouveia (won last 4 fights), and James Irvin. After his record-setting KO over Houston and an up and coming match with Rashad (another up and comer) I think he’ll get a lot of respect and a larger fan base. Plus next season’s Ultimate fighter is going to feature light heavyweights.

I don’t think this division has any worries.

rampage has beatten down chuck once in pride while dana was in the corner and commentator position and chucks team threw in the towel!!!!!!!

Then chuck gets ko’s again we do not need a chuck vs page 2 unless you al want to waiste your money and se bull crapp rankings
jardine should be fighting rampage,! you all know it!!!!
the fights in these org. are a farse
theire need to be clear rankings in the ufc or elite xc or blank in each division then in every year a cross promotion like the playoffs where the mma artist with the most wins or highest in the ladder goes against each other in each organization

Let me guess this, if Wandy would have beat Chuck everybody would have wanted to see Wandy get a title shot. If Shogun would have beat Forrest everyone would have said Shogun deserves a title shot. So Chuck won he should get a title shot right? Same with Forrest right? The ranking system doesn’t work if you want the #2 fighter to fight the #1 fighter. Look at Matt Serra after his loss to GSP he drops down to like #7 in most rankings. So how long would it be for him to get back to #2 ?

of course chuck don’t want to fight that much he never does and since he’s been sucking really bad recently a layoff will draw more people to want to see chuck l regarless if he has 3 losses ina row
chucks days are numbered chuck should retire then come back
or chuck should just bang chicks
he’s so kewl

Once Chuck gets tired of cutting weight, he’s gonna move up to HW and come in at 233lbs, 5 gallons of it being beer, and start knocking out the slower HWs.
