Finals are over at The State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland), which means that recent graduate Tamdan McCrory can resume his mixed martial arts career inside the Octagon.
“The Barncat” took a brief respite from competition to get his degree after falling victim to one of the most beautiful armbars in recent memory at UFC 78: “Validation,” losing to crafty veteran Akhiro Ghono in round two via submission back in November 2007.
He will return against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 welterweight finalist, Luke Cummo, at UFC 87 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 9, according to FightTicker.com.
Cummo is also looking to bounce back from a loss after dropping a unanimous decision to Luigi Fioravanti at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” back in March. Prior to the defeat Cummo was on a two-fight win streak after losing back-to-back fights.
UFC 87 will feature the heavyweight tilt between Brock Lesnar and Mark Coleman, as well as the number one lightweight contender eliminator match between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta.

Cummo is one of those fighter for me that I will always cheer for, win lose or draw. He isn’t the best fighter in the world but I like his style, he always brings it.
I am a fan of both fighters. Luke is a warrior, and I expect big things from Tamden in the Future. Tamden is a big welterweight. He has a lot of range and is very well versed. Keep in mind he is a very young fighter. I expect Tamden the Barncat McCrory to be a top 10 welterweight in a year or 2…This kid has a super bright future.
Question for everyone: When is my boy Akahiro Gono making his Octagon return? I am a HUGE fan of GONO, he is one of my favorite fighters and I am dying to see him fight again. Can anyone tell me when he is going to fight again, and who his opponent will be?
Also: Does anyone know when “The Grabaka hitman” will be making his strikeforce Debut, and who his opponent will be? I am a big fan of the Grabaka hitman and I cant wait to see him compete in the USA!!!
JRV you have to be insane to think Tamdan can TKO Cummo. I mean seriously, that’s just insane.
He might be able to lay and pray him to a decision, but there’s no way in hell he’d ever TKO him. After the ass kicking that Tamdan got standing from Pete Spratt, most people will easily be picking Cummo by TKO in this fight.
luke vs tamdan and florian vs huerta will be great but brock vs coleman give me a break. one is a overhyped joke and the other one is a over the hill joke. coleman was the man back in the day but not no more and brock has more star power then skill
Don’t let the whole WWE thing fool you. Lots of fighters come into the UFC with amateur wrestling backgrounds, and very few of them can match what Lesnar did in the NCAA. He was 2-time Juco All-American, 2-time NCAA All-American, 2-time Big 10 champion and a national champion. He was also about a second away from a first-round TKO over a former champ in his first UFC match.
This fight is going to be awesome to watch.

Did you guys know that Cummo drinks his own piss? I am totally serious, when I heard this I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe, you got to root for a guy that does something that crazy. I’m with you characters on this one WAR CUMMO just for making me laugh!

Rogan went on and on about that during Cummo’s fight w/ Josh Haynes. It was funny. It was Goldy was trying re-direct the conversation cuz he was getting sick to his stomach.
yeah its safe to do. i seen thjat guy bear grylls doit on “man vs wild” on discovery, but that was out in the desert to keeep from hydrating, why luke does it i dont know. i do know that he is a true warrior and have liked him since his tuf finale fight w/ joe-daddy. he almost won that one.
Maybe he was on some mind-relaxing retreat and fell into a deep cave or something…

Agree it is a nerdfest, but Luke bounces back tonight and should be a decent fight regardless of if both guys will ever make it up the ladder.
UFC 100 is going down as the holy grail so this fight was good but wont live up to the future rankings.
