jason dayHello, maniacs … this is Jason Day. I’m going to chronicle my training and preparation right here at MMAmania.com for the biggest fight of my professional career against Michael Bisping at UFC 85: “Bedlam” in London, England, on June 7.

I am already back at it training hard for another shot in the UFC after two weeks off celebrating my first win inside the Octagon over Alan Belcher at UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2″ on April 19. Chris Leben was forced to withdraw from the UFC 85 bout against Bisping, which created an amazing opportunity for me to get a shot at him in front of his hometown crowd.

The whole UFC experience has been a whirlwind for me — I thought I would have more time to sort out my day job and training, but the fight with Bisping was too good to resist.

When I am not training or fighting I build houses full-time up here in Canada. I own a home building company with my parents and they have been very supportive by picking up the slack when I have to take off to train or fight.

In fact, I have changed up my routine a little for this fight, separating my conditioning and strength from my technical and sparring sessions. I take a two-hour lunch break so I can hit the gym and get my cardio and weights over earlier in the day, which leaves me more energy at nights to spar.

I have been in this sport for seven years now and it seems like yesterday I had my first fight at the Roadhouse Nightclub where I worked as a doorman. Lee Mein was the head doorman and he was the one who got me started in the sport and I continue to train with him at his gym today.

It has been a long road to the UFC and now that I am finally here everything seems to be happening so fast and I am loving it all the way.

Things are finally starting to come together and I look forward to putting on a great performance against Bisping in less than four weeks. I’m hungry … and will be ready for the fight of my life on June 7.

Jason Day is a top Canadian mixed martial artist who was successful in his Octagon debut against Alan Belcher at UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2″ on April 19. UFC President Dana White referred to his performance that night as “amazing” and has rewarded him with a high profile fight against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 light heavyweight winner, Michael Bisping. Day is on a red hot five-fight win streak, which he will put on the line against “The Count” at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. He’ll detail his preparation for the bout right here at MMAmania.com with frequent updates.

Hey Tom, actually Jason told me he’s sending me one of his walkout shirts from his 83 fight so I was directing the question at him. I got an XL in the black from Adam and it fits like a dress. I wore the white one to my BJJ class and everyone knew the site…I sent your address over to Justin so he’s mailing them out if he hasn’t already…peace.

Yeah, I was already thinking (if the Leban fight) was still on and he lost? He(Bisping), would probably say “I took the fight on to short notice”, and now if he lose’s to Jason Day? he can’t say shit, because Dooms Day took the fight on even shorter notice….Day/Bisping is a good match-up, and should be a very excieting fight!
Bisping looked like a stud at MW. He will be a very tough fight for Day.. But I truly believe Jason has all the tools to finish Bisping off..I am a fan of both fighters, but I will be routing for Jason in this one..

In terms of the “do what” I meant can anyone beat my poor attempt at a pun using Day’s name.

Sorry i’m bored at work. You could say my ‘Day’ is dragging ha ha.

Stagger-Lee, I partially agree with what you are saying, the same excuse however will be all the Bisping haters will use if he wins. “Day didn’t have enough time to train” or “He fought to close together” etc.

Day will be a much harder fight IMO than Leben has he is much more well rounded and coming off an impressive UFC debut and is on a great winning streak but I still see Bisping taking it.

UKmmaBOY; I know what you mean. Fans from both sides will be making up excuse’s no matter what happens..agreed..Haters Hate.
I just respect both fighters in this case, and no matter what happens in the end, Im sure both of these guy’s can handle taking a fight on short notice..It’s not like it is 1 or 2 weeks notice, so the “short notice” excuse should not be used after this fight..Both fighters are in graet shape!
As far as you thinking Bisping will “take it”..I dont agree. But maybe I am a little biased on account of, I am Canadian??..Just like maybe you are a little biased picking Bisping??lol.
Jokes aside’ this is going to be a great fight, and im sure both fighters have what it take to beat each other. It will just come down to who is the better man that night..And imo it will be Dooms Day..
I really do wish Leban was fighting Bisping though’..I was pretty pumped to see that fight.

I have a lot more respect for Day and his skill set than I will ever have for Leben and yes I do have home country support for Bisping, not for being the poster boy, I supported him through Cage Rage aswell.

Its a big fight for both. Bisping will have beaten an opponent whom the fans deem “worthy” and Day will have beaten two tough fighters in his first two fights in a short space of time.

I dont want the winner to have to fight Leben though as it would be a step back for both having proved themselves.

NICK J, when June 7th comes around, Michael Bisping will have a better Day than Jason, and you can Count on that!

DISCLAIMER: That is just a phrase to help out Nick J’s boring day at work – its not necessarily how I feel.

I think part of the reason I appreciate MMA is because a lot of the fighters are regular down to earth guys. It makes it easier for me to watch and root for people when I know they are cool. A lot of fighters have to work very hard to make a living while they train for their fights. I appreciate these guys because they aren’t your typical spoiled athlete. I’ll be rooting for Jason to take Bisping down.

Go Canada Go. Best of luck in the UFC ( because luck sometimes plays a part), but your skills seem very sound so keep up the good work, and Belcher is a very tough dude, so keep it up! Can’t wait to see this fight!

I was soo pissed when Leban had to get dropped from the Bisping fight(and I still am), But Jason Day is a great opponant for the “count”…I truly thought the UFC was going to give Bisping a can, but instead, Day stepped up..I have been a fan of “Dooms Day” for a while now..I am glad that a fellow Canadian is going to be the first person to finish Bisping in a fight(imo)..Bisping is no joke!, and especially at MW, he looks alot faster, and more crisp..This will be a big win for Jason, and he will gain alot-(status wise) in the UFC…
Good luck Jason!..I look forward to your next update’s, here at MMAMANIA!!

I echo the sentiments above. I like this fight a lot and am really pulling for you Jason. You are a classic Alberta boy. And I mean that with much respect, coming from a fellow Albertan. I love your Eddie Bravo story and, I mean, fitting in your cardio workouts over your extended lunch break and doing sparring in the evenings is just friggin’ awesome. That said, I think you gotta’ get your dad to give you more time off in the future, although I also understand some of the intricacy’s of working in a family business. Best of luck man.

I hope that Jason KTFO Bisping. Bisping has been baby fed, and his fights delicately molded so to make the average fan think he is a good fighter.

Just think about his wins and just who the UFC matches him up against.

Haynes and Pointon both are WW that lost around 15 ot their last 20 fights combined. Elvis Sinosec….. another sub par sub 500 fighter. They(UFC) need their money maker to win. They face him against grapplers that CAN NOT fight. Eric Shaffaer and Charles McCarthy….another that doesnt belong in mma, maybe grappling and BJJ competitions but not qa fighter.

I could go on and on. In short……PLEASE Jason!!!!!!!Beat the piss outta Bisping and expose him for the, well average fighter he is!

Why all the Bisping hate? The guy can only fight who is put in front of him. Nate Quarry didn’t take the fight after Leben got banged up but Bisping agreed to it. Ross Pointon only fought him in TUF because no one else would at his weight. The guys he was living with didnt want to after 6 weeks so they must have seen something they didn’t want to fight.

I dont see how Bisping can be the “moneymaker” either, its only events which are PPV inside the UK that we have to pay for, every other event is free a night later so as long as you stay off the internet for a day we see it for nothing. Where is the money in that? He was announced late to this card so most of the tickets were already sold on the Iceman main event.

Okay Jason, just being honest here. I bleed red white and blue. I’ve just always been that way and probably always will. However, after watching your bout against Belcher, I might just have some room for a little maple syrup. I think it’s safe to say, you gained alot of fans coming out of that fight. It was clean, crisp, and full of action. I’m a fan. Good luck against Bisping.

Thanks for all the support guys. Sean your shirt is in the mail! I promise. To be honest my dad would give me all the time off I needed to fight but houses don’t build themselves and he needs a paycheque too. It is good to see I may be winning a couple American fans over as well! I don’t think I will be winning any British fans over anytime soon! I have a couple tricks up my sleeve for this fight… any predictions on how the fight ends?

I’m not usually one to give predications Jason…however we did see Bisping get into a bit of trouble on the ground with Schafer back at 66…If I were a betting man, I say ‘Dooms’ comes out with the W via complete domination from the rubber guard late 2nd round…ok, in reality…I think you’ll catch him with a sub late 2nd round…can’t wait to see the tricks…cheers Jason…I will continue to wait patiently for my shirt…
