PRIDE FC has returned to DVD with last week’s release of PRIDE: Shockwave 2006.

The staff at MMAmania.com spoke directly with the distributor who has confirmed that a total of 12 PRIDE FC DVD’s will be released over the next 18 months. In addition to Shockwave 2006, PRIDE 33: Second Coming is scheduled for release on June 9.

Zuffa — the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship — purchased the Japanese mixed martial arts promotion (and its biggest rival) early last year. With no television deal and most of its top fighters signing UFC contracts, the entity known as PRIDE became no more.

Now fans will have an opportunity to relive the glory days on DVD. MMAmania.com will preview each disc as its title and release date become available.

In the meantime, here’s a quick peek at PRIDE Shockwave 2006:

Anyone who hasnt watched a PRIDE event, this one is a pretty good one.

The match up between Gilbert vs. Kawajiri was an awesome battle

Shjinya Aoki wins via a beautiful gog plata

Nogueira vs. BNarnett was an epic battle

Fedor vs. Hunt was a pretty decent match up

Gomi vs. Ishida is over really quick

Shogun’s fight was nothing special

Hell yeah Kevin! I am the biggest PRIDE fan ever! I love that sh*t!!!! I love the rules, the respectful Japanese fans…and I love the fact that they made every single one of their cards much more stacked then any card the UFC has ever offered us.

Back when PRIDE was operating, If I won free tickets to an mma event and I had my choice of a PRIDe event or a UFC event, but I did not know who was fighting on each card, I would honestly pick PRIDE in a heart beat.

The funny thing is, I wasnt always a PRIDE fan. I have been following the UFC forever, but I never gave pride a chance until 2 decembers ago…. I bought my 1st PRIDE dvd and I was instantly hooked. From that 1st dvd purchase in December to april (5 month period), I purchased every single Pride dvd available in the USA (they were all new to me)…So its not like I followed Pride’s career, I had to play catch up but since then, In became a huge fan. I became so hooked that I went out and bought a unniversal dvd player (that would play Japanese dvd’s) and I have went on to try and purchase directly from Japan, all the events not offered on dvd in the USA….I basically became addicted to pride….and DAMN proud of it!!!

I knew about it, but like you John got into it a little late. I started about 2 years ago when they had the pride fights on fox sports with frank trigg and jay glazer. They would show all the fights in the afternoon here in CA, I work at night, so I was always watching them. Good stuff.

Nice stacked card put up by Pride. Shogun, Fedor, Nogueira, Gomi, Melendez on 1 Card!

That’s just how Pride rolled!

LOL

The UFC tried to put together a “stacked” card at UFC 73 and it proved that names don’t make the event.
