“I’m kind of going in blind for this fight. I just trained everything for this fight. For [Goran Reljik], there is no information at all. I just have to be 100% for everything. He’s supposed to be a very good jiu-jitsu guy. Every Croatian guy is supposed to be a very good striker. I’m not taking him as just being a jiu-jitsu fight…. To be honest, I pulled four wins in a row. My last fights I won by submission or knockout. I was expecting a real tough (opponent). It’s no problem. I fight anybody they put against me. I want to fight a big name. If I could pick the fights I want right now, I would like to fight Chuck (Liddell) or a rematch against Keith (Jardine). They are the two guys that are in my mind right now. I’m taking this fight very seriously though. I trained very hard. I’m training very much to be the next UFC light heavyweight champion.”
Wilson Gouveia tells MMAWeekly.com that he does not know much about his upcoming opponent at UFC 84: “Ill Will,” Goran Reljik. It sounds as though Gouveia — who has four straight wins and just one loss (Keith Jardine) inside the Octagon — would have been happier with more noteworthy opponent. His fight with Reljik will be televised on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card, which means that he might just get his wish next time out with a win or exciting fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

That fight with Keith jardine was too close to call. I tought his striking looked really crisped and his movement was awesome, yet they gave it to Jardine. Not saying he’s better, just that fight could have easily gone his way.
Yup, that fight was really close. Jardine was all bloodied up. I really like Gouveia, his KO agaisn’t Lambert was awesome. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters. I don’t know anything about Reljik, but hopefully he wins impressivly and if Thiago Silvia wins that is the fight I want to see (which Joe Silvia should have already set up for 84).
I agree… that could easily have gone either way. IMO, Wilson’s greatest weakness is his cardio. If he improves that, there’s no telling how good he could be.
Besides betting on BJ Penn, I think wagering $ on Gouveai is the next safest bet on this card. I know that little is known about his opponent but Wilson is a gamer and a very tough guy to defeat. I think that within the next year or so, Wilson will be a top 10 LHW in the UFC. He is very well rounded and will be ready to fight wereever this croation kat takes the fight!
Bet BIG on WILSON!!!
BNF: U r absolutely right! Joe Silva should have matched up Wilson vs. THiago Silva….Hopefully if they both win they will get paired up to fight in a couple of months because that fight would launch the winner into the top 10 for sure!
This SHOULD be an easy for for Wilson. With that said, there really is no such thing as an easy fight in the UFC. I’ve had Wilson on the cusp of Top 10 for a while now, floating right around the 10 and 11 spot. He is no joke and he often times wins looking effortless. That is the only worry I have is that he would have a lack of effort in the fight and get taken by surprise. But by the sounds of things, Wilson is out to prove a point.
VM: I too have Wilson, right on the brink of the top 5, and if the UFC would give him bigger match ups, I feel that he would be in the top 10 already because he is a GAMER who always shows up….No matter how a fight is going, he is always in it! I am a fan!
Reljik - win by armbar.
Do you know something we don’t?
I saw a match of his against another croatian, he pulled off a real sweat takedown and armbar. He usually fights at heavyweight but gives away plenty of weight.
I think he’s got a good shout for taking Wilson down and subing him.
But this is by far his biggest fight, so maybe the famous UFC nerves will beat him before he enters.
first of all it’s not reljik, it’s reljic (reljić)
RELJIC BY TKO 1ST ROUND MAYBE 2ND
RELJIC BY 1ST ROUND TKO
RELJIC BY 1ST ROUND TKO!
Doubt that….
reljic by ground n pound
reljic by arm bar, guys a purple belt under roger gracie, seen a few times in some of the bbj comps in england at blue belt and one at purple belt, the guys machine
Goran Reljic is no joke. Wilson is in for a battle. It doesn’t sound like he’s taking Goran lightly but if he thinks about anything else but trianing for this dude he’s going to be put to sleep.
Goran Reljic is currently training with Randy Couture. From what I’ve read elsewhere Wanderlai and Baroni (who also trian there) say this guy is a ttoal bully during sparing sessions.
I give Goran a lot of credit. Coming over here to fight a tough guy right off the bat.
I’m sure he’s fought plenty of tough guys over in Croatia. Guys over there are the furthest thing from prima donas and Goran was supposed to be the best young guy the country has to offer.
We will see Saturday. I’m stoked for this fight and shocked it’s actually going to be broadcast… especially over the Sodku/Nakamura fight. I figured Goran/Wilson would have been religated to the undercard.
