UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will join forces once again to the benefit of aspiring mixed martial arts (MMA) students (and underprivileged children) in the Miami, Fla., area with the grand opening of a new training facility, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
The 15,000 square-foot “Nogueira and Silva Mixed Martial Arts Academy” –- located inside Johnny Rock Fitness at 90 SW 8th St. — will open its doors for business on May 16. In fact, the dangerous duo and other instructors will conduct their first seminar dubbed, “What It Takes To Be A Champion,” on May 17 at 2 p.m. ET.
Fitting … these two would know a thing or two about that.
Here’s a snip from “Big Nog” regarding the new training digs:
“The sport is growing here now and is a hotbed for mixed martial arts.… Big things are growing here. This has been a dream to open an academy together here. This is a good area and the weather is very good. In Miami, you can walk in the street and see people. It’s like Brazil. This is the right time and right place. This is the biggest time right now, in America, for this sport.”
According to the report, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira — Minotauro’s twin brother — will begin to instruct students at the academy sometime next summer. In addition, Silva and Minotauro will train together for their upcoming UFC fights in the facility.
For information call Juliana Nogueira at (305) 200-2789.
This sounds like a great opportunity for those in the Miami area to learn MMA from two of the best in the business. Check it out if you can.

Note that Nogueira indicated he could fight next as soon as August, which would likely put him on the UFC 87 card if it pans out. No opponent was named.

I hope nog fights in august, I for one am not excited about brock lesner being a main event. But this could be setting brock up for a title shot, if nog fights the same night. It would be a shame, lesner hasn’t proved anything, and with a win over coleman, proves nothing. don’t flame on me, remember it is a business, and it’s about money. Lesner fighting for a title will break ppv records guaranteed, we as die hards may not like it, but the younger, wwe generation will love it.
When will the spider be fighting next???
Kevin: There is no proof to back up what I am about to say, but I am getting a feeling that Silva isn’t planning on fighting anyone, until he gets Roy Jones. I hope I am wrong, but Silva’s camp has yet to even mention Okami’s name. Every interview I read is of him talking about the Jones Jr. Fight.
AS for the Heavyweight title picture…Its a mess right now. Nobody with the exception of Arlovski can be justified (to the die hards) to get a shot at Nogueira
Everyother top heavyweight is either coming off a loss, or is on a 1 fight winning streak. I hate for title’s to be held up by the reality show, but in this case it may be whats best, giving other heavyweights a chance to build their resume.
Couture is a real prick for night fighting Nogueira. That fight would be HUGE. It may be easier to market in the USA than Couture vs. Fedor. Nogueira is a legend and with out a doubt 1 of the top 3 heavyweights in the world, along with Barnett and Fedor….He came to the UFC looking to test him self against other top heavyweights….but once he won the title, they all disapeared…Gotta feel bad for Big Nog!
I kinda agree with you about tuf. AA is a beast as long as he comes in the right mind set and not worried about getting ko’d. I posted a link yesterday saying that the fedor/timmy card can’t find a place to be held. For some reason guys on here can bash me and swear at will, but I can’t post relevant info. What it said was it’s 2 months out and Mark Cuban won’t give them his building (don’t remember why).. Randy better hope this is true, because once timmy beats fedor, I for one won’t be interested in randy/fedor.
I agree with silva except he really wants Okami, and has even talked a little smack about him. He references their first fight, saying okami could have continued…I agree
Kevin: I just read about the Affliction card, loosing the American Air lines center as its venue. I here that this is because Affliction hasn’t agreed to a deal with HdNet…. As long as this card happens, I dont care where its happening.
Please Kevin, no more Tim beating Fedor posts. Not from you, I expect more out of you! I know you like to pick underdogs (as do I), but the favorite is winning that fight.
Then again you can tell me Fedor is fighting anyone, and I still pick Fedor!
That fight HAS to Happen. It would be great for the fans and it would show the non believers that think anyone not in the UFC is a bum, who the real deal is.
I think it will be a great fight, and not picking the underdog all the time, just picking who I feel will win. I posted a link to that story, but it didn’t make it up
fedor should have signed w/the ufc while he had the chance. your at least guaranteed to fight and get paid what they say their gonna pay you plus more if you perform well.
i agree bw. these other orgs can’t pay more then they’re worth, it’s simple economics
its like fedor’s getting to do all the things he wanted like sambo and make commercials, that he may or may not have been able to do in the ufc, except actually fight.
I know, and look at how tough sambo was for him. If this fight falls through, Dana has to signhim. He wants too much money IMO, who has he beaten in the past 2 years? Most US fans don’t even know who he is. He needs to build a US fan base and climb back to the top. Where better to do it than the UFC. The money will come! His red devil guys he wants to get signed too, thats an off the wall demand, but sign them to shitty contracts, it’s give and take, Dana’s problem is wanting too much control!
Dont really care what he has done in the past 2 years, he has beaten everyone that he has faced and thats a fact, nobody can dispute. Its not like he hasnt fought against Great fighters. He put a beating on the current UFC heavyweight champion in all 6 rounds that they fought. Sounds pretty dominant to me. Lets say he retired 2 years ago….he still goes down as the greatest Heavyweight mma fighter of all time. The thing with Fedor is, he is from a completely different culture. Whats important to us, may not be to him… We aren’t going to understand why he makes the decision he has made….What I do know, is I dont think he has ever lost a round in PRIDE…not just a fight, but a ROUND…. That says something to me.
To be the man, you have to beat the man……Thats how I always looked at it.
We can go on about this forever. Once he beats the living crap out of one of these main stream American’s, you will all understand. UFC Nutt Hugers////Put your beloved Brock Lesnar against him and see what happens..LMFAO!
sorry john, but you are in the minority if you think he will be considered the greatest hw of all time if he never fights again. one of the greatest but not the greatest. that honor hasnt been decided yet. brock lesnar? he’s no where near fedors level yet. your right we could go on forever but its not once, its if he ever fights a mainstream american. he has to fight again, he has to finish it out.
can’t dispute he’s great John, but to say he never lost a round. Didn’t lindland (a MW) do ok, and mark hunt almost submitted him. Can’t take anything away from him, but don’t go crazy john. He is great, but he’s not marketable (yet ) in the U.S. and needs some quality wins
HE HAS NOT LOST A ROUND!!! Lindland did OK, but was finished in the 1st round…therefor we cant say that he lost that round either.
Kevin I am not talking about who is more marketable….Who is the greatest HW of all time! (overall career)
Hunt survived, more then anything. I have that DVD…/actually It just got released today. I am a big Hunt fan as most of you all know, but I didnt think Fedor was ever in trouble in that fight! Bresides the submission attempt, hunt was basically defending himself for most of the time
The only other times Fedor was ever in any trouble was when Fujita made him do the fish dance, but he finished Fujita in the same round, and when Randleman suplexed him on his head, but he went on to finish Randleman in the same round as well.
Therefore, I dont ever recall Fedor loosing a round, since he started fighting in PRIDE. If anyone can recall a round that Fedor has lost, please point it out to me….I have every PRIDE dvd, and I will go back and check it out….but I dont think he has ever lost a round.
If a fighter does good against him, but gets finished in the same round….we cant say that Fedor lost the round!
OK so if Fedor isn’t the greatest… I pose a question to all of you.
Say all mma ended today (which would be the worst day EVER) who do you all feel would go down as the greatest Heavyweight of all time? Not the best in the last year, or 2 years…what)??? Theres no right or wrong answer I am just curious to hear what you all have to say about this.
Please nobody answer: Randy…..he is a legend in the sport but has had a mediocre career at HW!!!
Nogueira….would be the best, If Fedor didnt Demolish him for 50 minutes of mma action (2 fights: 1st round = 15 minutes, 2 + 3 rounds are 5 minutes)….Thats almost a whole hour dominating Nogueira! Thats impressive..Nog didnt even come close to submitting him.
Barnett gets some consideration, but the streoid’s taint his big win over Couture and he is 1-1 against Nogueira.
naw man mir fighting nog first and i think it will be after the tuf 8 i think thier going to be coaches
how sweet it would be to train with these guys
i wish i can go to miami and train at their
wasnt the talk of big nog being the coach for the next season of the ultimate fighter out there? what has all went down with that? does anybody know?
nice with the training center! could you imagine how much knowlage you could gain from these two guys!
WinnerBy Strikes: Last news I read about the next season of TUF was that Nogueira and Mir were being discussed as coaches for the next season, but other fighters were being considered again. It did seem that Nog and Mir are the front runners for next season’s coaches.
wow that has got to be the best team to train with.. that and xtreme couture… It’s going to be sick best of luck to both guys…. who is anderson fighting next i hear its okami?? or maybe jason mcdonald.. (just kidding)
Kimbo should train there.
NO!! Nogueira will TAKE OVER Kimbo’s MIAMI and kick his ass! Silva and Nogueira will make MIAMI their own, and hopefully we can erase the face of that low class peice of sh*t Kimbo from Miami.
sad thing is, you’re probably being serious.
Mir would have no chance of winning against big nog, he wouldnt be able to knock him out his cardio is vastly weaker and his bjj is probably the 2nd best in heavyweight behind big nog!
Damn, Merry Christmas to everyone in South Florida looking for a place to train!
Now Lemme hear you say
Big shit poppin, and lil shit stoppin
That gym is going to be overflowing with energy and knowledge! I would love to go down there and train!
that’s very cool to have Spida and Nog teaming together with their own gym. It’s good to have bring some authentic bjj straight outta Brazil to America, I wonder Wandy Silva will train there cuz he’s Brazilian also and a good friend of Spida’s.
LOL what are the gracie gyms???
Yes, Gracies are the first to bring out bjj to the world but now you don’t have to learn bjj from the Gracies anymore it’s already widely spread from South America to the USA, Canada, Hawaii. There’s already some Gracie gyms in America though.
Now that would be a cool training center if these guys know how to coach and speak English?… we need to see them on the next TUf
wow…Miami is 90% spanish speaking which is pretty close to spanish. and I didn’t know you had to speak english to coach.
pretty close to portugese…sorry
spanish and portuguese are not close at all kevin. a brazilian can understand spanish up to a point, but it has to be spoken very slowly, but a spanish person will have even more problems understanding portuguese. again, they’re not close languages.
Well Kevin, looks like Linx cleared that up. Cagaste y saltaste en la caca!
Que?
lol, I know, he sure did. my wife speaks spanish and can understand anderson silva press conferences and interviews. she says as long as she can pick up every few words, she can put the sentence together. I can’t understand at all, but I don’t speak spanish.
That will be one hell of a good camp, you watch. Send a hardcore wrestler in there and he’ll come out a superstar. lol
Frank Mir vs. Big Nog is what everybody has their fingers crossed for. But I think Andrei could be signed, and this could be a little surprise to some fans that if Andrei was announced. But that is just my wishful thinking.
Let me guess… they’re training Thai clinch, and how to get punched in the head repeatedly.
32nd!!!!!!
