Sean sherk is going to win this fight. i KNOW, I KNOW, bj penn has all the tools to beat sean, but there is something in sherks eyes that wasn’t there in his previous fights.(Its not fear) Sean is going to beat BJ by TKO in the third, mark my words…

LOLSherk has no chance…except to LNP for 5 rounds…but you can’t do that against BJ. To say he gasses is just stupid. Lutter gasses, BJ gets tired, but he’s gone to decisions with cardio machines (GSP). Steroid, I mean sherk is delusional for 1 thinking he can win this fight and 2 he actually has convinced himself he didn’t juice

Kevin, I could not agree more. 1st of all, does anyone really think BJ isnt aware that Sherkls cardio is his only shot? So what if BJ has lacked Cardio in the past, he has looked great in his past 2 fights and cardio is not a skill, its easily enhanced and corrected.

BJ can work his way up to Sherks Cardio level
But…There is nothing Sherk can do in 4 months of training to catch up with BJ’s skills!

Sherk will just be one of the many top wrestlers to have their face turn purple while they are tapping to BJ’s rear naked choke!

I promise that it will be the outcome! No Doubts in my mind about this fight!

I love BJ Penn. But I see this fight going down the exact same way as the second BJ vs Hughes fight. BJ dominates the first two rounds and then gasses out. Sherk via Decision.

BJ didnt gas in that fight. Hughes layed on him in the 3rd round and it broke BJ’s rib. then he got caught in a position and ate about a thousand elbows from Hughes that he could not defend but did not even hurt him and his rock hard DOME!

Seriously, what the hell is mini Hughes going to do to BJ? Not a damn thing!

Hey John,

I think BJ will win this one too, but to say that BJ can get to Sherk’s level of cardio in 4 months is ridiculous. You can improve your cardio a lot in 4 months, but it continues improving for years.

I am not a fighter, just a fight fan; I am a runner, cardio is my game, and it does take years to get it to tip top… I started running 9 years ago, did my first marathon 8 years ago, have been improving ever since… sure my cardio showed the most improvement in the first few months, but the man I am today could, on a bad day, run circles around teh man I was 8 years ago, on a good day.

P.S. What is up with all these people who think Sherk will finish BJ? Sherk doesn’t stop anyone, and BJ never gets stopped (barring injury).

Comment by john

He isnt trying to improve it in 4 months. Its been improving since his preperation for the Jens pulver fight last June. He has been jumping from 1 fight right into another since then, so its not like he is starting training camp in terrible shape. But I can respect what u r saying!

Am I the only one who could plainly see BJ GASSED his legs in the Hughes fight. Not saying he didn’t hurt his rib, but a rib has NOTHING to do with rubber legs and BJ legs were toast. John, cardio is a skill (something you work at to get better)and to have insain cardio like Sherk, you have to have an insain work ethic to achieve it. Work ethic is something you develop as you grow up. Rich kids tend to have shitty work ethic. BJ was a rich kid and he will NEVER have what it takes to get the cardio Sherk has, NEVER. BJ is just plain lazy, it’s not his fault, he had everything handed to him growing up. Not to mention, Sherk has his diet down to a science and eats clean food year round. BJ has improved his, but he will never eat the shit Sherk eats. He likes his junk food to much.

Thats what I thought, put your money where your mouth is, I know I am!!

“Penn is the kind of guy that has to hate you to fight you” - Is he kidding? He announced the last fight with Stevenson so how could he not know about teh respect they had for each other and nothing else?

BJ wins this fight, plain and simple. In Sherks interviews he looks a lot smaller and I would assume he cut back on what ever he was using. I think BJ Penn would beat even a juiced up Sherk and him saying he never heard of what he was taking is bologna. I know BJ will dominate this cheater.

Come on Kevin: I expect more out of you that that! Tito winning?

I think the fight will be simular to Tito vs. Liddell 2, only Tito wont be able to land anything in the stand up. Machida isnt the hardest hitter out there, we all know that, but Tito:
A) Hits like a girl
B) Hates having to stand up against tough strikers
c) Does not like to get hit in the face

Tito will get so frustrated chasing Machida around the cage while getting tagged up, that Tito will eventually break, Machida will smell blood and go for the kill.

Plan B: Tito gets the takedown, is in Machida’s guard. He cant pass guard to save his life, and I don’t think he can sit in Machida’s guard too long with out getting submitted.

Keep in mind Tito hasnt really faced anyone with a really dangerous Brazilain Ju Jitsu guard in a long time. his last fights have been against:

Rashad (wrester)

Forrest: good ju jitsu, but not a guard to fear

Chuck Liddell: Not sure he even knows what ju jitsu is

Ken Shamrock 3 times: who was a great submisison grappler, but not the the world class ju jitsu guard. In addition we all know he was not the Shammy of back in the day when he fought tito.

Tito Can not win this fight. You cant win, if you cant hit the guy….Machida will win, but this is very hard to predict how he will win. I can see Machida winning by:

KO (because Tito is such an inferior striker)

TKO: Machida rocks Tito and finishes him by G n p or Tito takes Machida down, end up in his guard, gets swept…Machida is on top punching away till Tito is in the Fetal position covering up and the ref stops it.

Decision: We all know that most of Machida’s fights in the UFC have gone to a decision, so this
is an excellent possability.

I know for sure who will win, but how he will win, is anybody’s guess!

couldn’t disagree more john. In no way am I a fan of Tito (my wife is), but his only shot at a big contract is winning. I’ll go one step further and call his bluff..his only chance at a big contract with UFC is to win. What bigger F U to Dana? His striking isn’t bad, and he’ll take Machida down, put him against the cage and drop elbows. Machida’s only chance is a decision. I don’t quite get the fascination with this guy, his style is boring! I’m dead serious with tito on this one, and quite frankly I think you made my point for me. Win or lose look at Tito’s opponents (besides last 2 shamrock fights..lol). He has the experience advantage no doubt!!

Comment by john
2008-04-30 15:57:04

Kevin: I too used to think Machida was Boring and did not understand why everyone loved him. I was aware of the BJ and Franklin fights but he just bored me in the UFC. Recently I have began to really appreciate his style. His footwork is top of the line. Its on par with the greats, Liddell and Anderson if not better. However, ideally he needs to be matched up against an aggressive striker in order for him to fully show it off. I just think its a thing of beauty how he is untouchable in the stand up. Watching guys go after him and miss while he tags them up takes a lot of skill. There is a thin line between running and strategically retreating. In the past Machida has tip toed that line, but since the Nakamura fight he has said and backed up that he is aware of the boring critizisms of him and he has been aggressive. Although he did not finish Nakamura (who is a tough Kat) he was very agressive while still being very hard to hit, and although I think the Octagon Jitters got to Soko a little bit, watching him dominate Soko was very impressive.

I just dont think Tito is a real fighter anymore. he used to be with out a doubt, but he has lost the fire. I know he would love to leave with a F-you to Dana white, but I dont think he wants any part of returning to the UFC. I think he has already made up his mind to leave and he knows offers from EliteXC will be enticing.

I really believe Machida is a top 7 fighter in everyone’s mind. Tito on the other hand, is barely top 15. I dont think he could even win a rematch against guys like Suga Shad lol and Forrest. Machida comes from one of the most decorated camps in the UFC right now and is working hard knowing he is close to a title shot. Tito on the other hand has never evolved. He hasnt learned anything new in like 10 years. I actually think he has regressed as a fighter because he used to at least attempt submission grappling (appearences in Abu Dahbi). Now he has become a one trick pony, like Matt Hughes. Neither likes to get hit in the face and to have been in the business this long and have never improved there stand up is pathetic and its just too late for them to catch up against the
new Hungry fighters today.

Machida has everything to loose, Tito is going to get a boat load from EliteXC on name alone no matter how crappy he performs. Tito has the most over rated Cardio in the world and I see him getting really frustrated chasing Machida around the cage while he gets tagged up.

Machida will win this fight!

I tihnk the fite will be closer than most think but wit the exception of wrestling and conditioning, there is no aspect that sean sherk is betta than bj at. Bj’s standup, bjj and submissions are a level or more ahead of sherks. Sherks only hope is that bj’s conditioning isn’t there. But bj is motivated for this fite so it will definitely be there. Sherks last three fites have all been won by decision and that’s his only hope in this fite. But just like he did to win the title I say bj chokes him out.

I just want to hear 1 Sherk fan try to make a case about anything beside Cardio!

Prepare for a 1 sided beatdown which I will thoroughly enjoy by BJ Penn. Mini Hughes is going to get OUT CLASSED. Sherk is wasting his time preparing for a 5 round fight because he wont last 3!

Wow.. this is pretty much the same thing that Matt Hughes said(sans the steroids issues) before he fought BJ. 1 round later, Hughes was thinking otherwise. Bj has the best sprawl in MMA. If Sherk couldnt finish Florian on his back, hes not gonna finish BJ.
Now I agree with Jimmy Dean (HAH!) that sherk does look smaller and is cutting back. However, I take suplements. When you get into the hard core legal supplements, you learn what to watch out for like andro and nandro.
I mean, i still dont think he intentionally cheated, but to say he has never heard of the stuff just put his credibility in question in my eyes. Regardless. BJ wins this fight. BJ has Better stand up, Hits much harder(caol uno anyone??), and can submit you from his back at any point. Im looking forward to this. if any mania fans are in santa monica, hit me up. There are so many Penn fans about that say this is going to be a walkover, think again.

I could easily see SS taking Penn down and controling him for at least three of the five rounds and earning a decision.

Yes BJ’s hopping takedown defence is another level but after his gas tank goes in the first he becomes easier to take down (see GSP fight).

That being said i would still favour BJ to hurt Sherk in the early rounds, take his back and RNC for the win.

A bit of a contradictary post maybe but what i am trying to say is that this is one of the most closely contested title fights of recent UFC’s, put the house on Penn at your peril!

GSP’s wrestling is a level above Sherk’s. Sherk will get a few takedowns here and there, but it’s not gonna be enough to win. He better come with a lot more than just Lay and Pray.

But was GSP’s wrestling that far ahead of Sherks two years ago when whe he fought Penn?

All i’m saying is that it is far from impossible that Sherk wins this by taking Penn down and controling him for 3 of the 5 rounds.

If he gets BJ on his back, BJ will submit him - Sherk, Hell probably anyone in the UFC, will be in trouble in BJ’s gaurd.

Sherk’s strenth (takedowns & wrestling) will lead him to the exact place he doesn’t want to be. The bad news for him is that standing and being on his back are even worse positions for him. He has no place to take this fight where he’ll be in control.

When I heard that both fighters testetd dirty, that fight instantly became tainted, and if they both came clean, you probably would’ve seen this fight on the best of 2007 DVD. While Franca has apologized (and I forgive him), Sherk has been arrogant about this whole thing. It’s laughable that he’s puzzled why he was booed at UFC 80.

GSP had a helluva time getting BJ down, Hughes was having a fits trying to take him down - no way the smaller, less explosive, less decorated wrestler in sherk will be able to take BJ down effectively or consistently.

I cant see of any way that Sherk can win
1) He’s off the juice (if he ever was on it)
2) His last fight was A YEAR AGO
3) He hasnt trained 100% during this time - dealing with legal trouble and the stress that comes along with that

I hope it goes longer than 2 rounds, but i see BJ TKOing this clown

GSP took down Penn in 4 of 5 takedown attempts when they fought.

BJ fought off a TD attempt from Hughes in Rd 1 of their 2nd fight, but then Hughes got a TD right off the bat to start Rd 2. BJ has good TD defense, but guys have gotten him down, and sometimes fairly easily.

They got an out of shape Penn down, and BJ got right back up most of the time. And that take down he defended in Rnd 1 of the Hughes fight was defended for almose 2 and half minutes, he defended a takedown for almost 3 minutes against a great takedown artist. Thats all Hughes does and he tried for nearly 3 minutes and coulnt budge BJ. He faught over way more than 1 takedown in that fight but whatever, there is no reasoning with Penn haters. We’ll see what happens to GSP sooner than later im sure, then can we see what tune you guys are singing from your bandwagon, thats what your on when youve only liked a fighter when he’s famous and didnt know who he was 2 years ago. Sing me your tune from the backseat of that bandwagon if you dont jump off it after GSP really loses (not some lucky Serra crap).

Facts are facts. GSP and Hughes took down Penn before Penn’s poor conditioning can be used as an excuse. That doesn’t mean Penn doesn’t have great TD defense; he does. However, it’s quite possible that Sherk does take him down. It’s really not a hard concept to understand.

Cause it was a jab to the eye not an eye gougeing poke that was illege. So anytime you hit someone in the eye with your fist its a eye poke?? Everyone that fights BJ looks like that by the end of the fight. Coincidence??? Or good standup?? Did he eye poke Gomi or Joe, or Jens, or anyone else except the first two fights you’ve ever seen him in after he already hd a 6 year career, newbee!

GSP didn’t spend 2 nights in the hospital. Please stop making things up. Even the announcers noted how BJ poked him in the eye. It’s easy to see on the replay. And even with a half blind GSP, Penn couldn’t hurt him or come close to putting him away. BJ is a great fighter, but he lost that fight.

Adam G, since you have the DVD you really should watch it a few more times. It wasn’t a stiff jab. It was a lazy jab that he RAKED his thumb to the side when he touched GSP’s face, the EXACT SAME thing he did in his next fight with Hughes. Also watch the CLIP to the nose. There is a great slow motion shot. No one is saying a clip can’t do damage (on the contrary, that clip caused his nose to break),never the less it is still a clip. More importantly, as you are watching it , make a note of the time on the clock when BJ is landing ANYTHING damaging other than the poke and the clip. The version I got doesn’t show any. Mine must be missing the parts where the BJ nuthuggers say BJ won the fight by.

What are you talking about? Sherk is a freekin HUGE for 155. BJ towers over him by a whole 3 inches and he is NOWHERE NEAR as wide. When you say the “same thing” do you mean LOSE? Because BJ lost to 3 out of the 4 you mentioned.Granted he did avenge Pulver and he beat Hughes prior.

BJ skills and technique vs
Sean The super villain midget Sherk and his arsenal of pharmaceutical drugs looks to be a great test ! ! !

people shouldn’t act as if he is guilty since it has never been proven that he is. anyone in any org. can just as easily be on hgh. so if someone was gonna use something like roids wouldn’t they just use the hgh since it isn’t testable? idk. i’m am indifferent to the matter but do believe that the fight will be closer than what some people think.

if by never proven you mean a failed drug test…wow what a good post killswitch. kill the switch to your key board until you have something relevant to say. I do agree HGH could be an issue, but WOW, never proven? yeah, it’s never been proven Nick Diaz smokes weed either, right?

Adanm G is the noob sho fo!! He did break GSP’s nose but it was just a clip with an uppercut. Thats all it takes and it was a nice shot. As for the”stiff jab” it was a Gilbert Yvel special, go back and watch the fight before trying to drop knowledge. Douchechill!!

Adam, I’m guessing the G doesn’t stand for genius. GSP absolutely owned in the wrestling game. Penn didn’t shoot once and he got taken down at will. Props for the twinkies and blunts bit though that was fuggin funny.

Love it! Ill take the insults, when your wrong your wrong. And id never argue with someone with a screen name i like so much = ) And BTW, the G stands for Gallagher, but the blunts and twinkie comment was genious huh, cant fight the laughter when i get going!! For all interested my P4P list goes as such (so you can see how i feel outside of BJ Penn in the MMA world):
1)BJ Penn
2)Anderson Silva
3)Georges
4)Hendo
5)Melendez
6)Rampage
7)Hallman
8)Gomi
9)Rua
10)Faber

Prefaced…I’m a big fan of BJ and can’t stand Sherk but…
BJ’s M/O is to blow his wad in the early rounds and gas in the later rounds.
Until he can show he’s developed the advanced cardio of fighters like Hughes, GSP and Sherk, all his opponents have to do is survive BJ’s initial onslaught.
Look for Sherk to lie on BJ a lot early to wear him down. Then pound him out in round 4 or 5.

That’s the way I see it going. BJ has to KO him early, although I don’t see that happening, even though BJ hits hard, yet not as hard as Franca’s knee’s. Sherk didn’t even miss a beat, when he ate those knees.

Thank God thur’s others believin him
Every one spazes then when we say he’s innocent
“Ah he failed a drug test”
And then passed a more accurate drug test
Nothing against BJ, not gonna go on here and try dis-credit him (he’s doin enough himself)

Its gonna be a good fight between 2 top competitors
I just hope Sherk wears him down and beats him

Let’s just wait until May 24 so Penn can do the talking for us. I remember back in January when all the Penn haters said that Stevenson would dominate Penn.. Although Sherk is a btter fighter than Joe, Sherk ain’t know BJ Penn.. All the Penn haters have to go on is Bj’s cardio.. Get over it, he made that mistake before and it won’t happen again. It’s cool and all to disagree on this thread but Please come up with logical reasons to back up your statement.

Sincerely: pUniSHment

Like i said b4, I’m a huge BJ fan but…
He’s got to prove he has the cardio to go into later rounds and win.
He gassed against Jens Pulver in their 1st matchup.
Again vs. GSP.
Ditto in his rematch with Hughes.
With ANY decent level of cardio, BJ would probably be the reigning Welterweight Champ right now.

All fights in which he was dominant early.
If BJ had ANY decent level of cardio, he’d be the reigning Welterweight Champion.
His quick victory over the CHUMP, Joe HOW DID I GET A TITLE SHOT Stevenson, did nothing to convince that BJ has addressed is achilles heel, which is to blow his wad early and gas out.
