“To be honest I think at the beginning he will definitely try and test the waters on his feet, but in my opinion when push comes to shove and things become a little bit harder you tend to fall back to what you know best – in his case that is wrestling. I won’t be too surprised if after a few minutes he decides to try taking me to the ground. It is kind of hard with someone like him that has developed striking – I have to be prepared for that, I don’t want to get caught not giving him the respect he deserves there; but I’m definitely thinking he is going to try to take me down.”
– Chris Lytle thinks that if he does it won’t be long before Koscheck goes for the takedown, according to a recent interview with PunchDrunkGamer.com, which in this case would appear to be the wise approach. However, in has last three fights “Kos” has made no secret that his intentions were to display his improving Muay Thai and boxing skills rather that rely on his amazing wrestling abilities. It worked against Diego Sanchez and Dustin Hazelett; however, Georges St. Pierre switched things up on him. To trade blows with Lytle at UFC 86: “Jackson vs. Griffin” at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 5 might not be the best gameplan for Koscheck — “Lights Out” has great MMA boxing.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get a little bored with kos? He’s toned himself down a little, and is becoming more likable, but I’m not sold on him yet! I hope he wins this fight, and also hope he looks and acts better too, I think it’s his attitude more than anything that bothers me!
you hope he looks and acts better? what are you trying to date him?
yeah thats it douche bag, kos is a dick and a hot head. If he worried more about fighting than acting dumb, maybe I’d consider him top 10. He’s getting “better” but still is a dick. by the way why date him when your mom never says no!
I agree with almost everything you write. I only hope that Chris wins the fight. I believe he is more deserving and a more respectable fighter. Although, even after koscheck ridiculous behavior after the Sanchez fight. Once he figures out to be more mature he will have many more fans. Aka Chuck, Forrest Anderson Silva etc.
I don’t know for a guy who got knocked out from someones guard I wouldn’t be surprised if Josh stood with him the whole time.
i’m not a real huge kos fans, but the guy can fight. yea and i won’t be surprised if this fight remains standing.
or maybe lytle is trying reverse psychology on kos. he’s telling kos he can’t stand with him, so kos will stand. then lytle will pull a gsp and surprise kos with some take downs. it’s crazy enough to work, or maybe lytle isn’t that smart!
or that talented…..when it comes to wrestling I mean. GSP had the wrestling skills to impose that game plan. Lytle’s a great striker….I’m not sure he could pull it off.
I’m looking for Kos to win, although Lytle can never be counted out. I believe that they will test eachother on the feet for maybe 1 or 2 minutes, before they hit the mat. Look for Kos to show his improving striking, right before he surprises Lytle with a take-down attempt, but Lytle is very strong. I think that whoever is in top postion for most of the fight will win, because I see this being a desicion. These two are (IMO) pretty evenly strengthed and I think it will be hard for both to get a sub/tko. They are both smart, I’m excited about this fight.
i like koscheck and i honestly think he’s the biggest threat down the road to st. pierre’s belt, but i’m hoping to see lytle pull out a much needed win. i really would love to see lytle actually rack up some quality wins that raises his standing cuz i think the dude is a quality fighter who i’d love to see do better.
If Kos try’s to stand with Lytle, he’s gonna get Ko’ed. Hazlett almost pulled it off, and Lytle is many, many years past Hazlett’s striking. Kos is definetly going for a take down. Chris needs to keep a good enough distance, stuff the takedowns (maybe even a great knee for the KO) and catch him with his strikes and new aggressiveness. I’ve been a huge Lytle fan for years and it would be great to see him win this one. He’s had some unfortunate fights in the UFC. In my opinion he’s still one of the top guys at 170. Anywhere else and this guy would have been champ a long time ago. I’ll always be a fan however, because Lytle never, and say again NEVER gives a bad performance.
WAR LYTLE!!
I have a hard time disliking someone with the athleticism and the potential that Kos shows. He might be a prick outside the Octagon, but he’s exactly what I want to see inside. I’m expecting a great fight.
I’ve always liked Koscheck despite his difficult personality — don’t know why. I give him a lot of credit for really working to become a well-rounded MMA fighter.
I just hope that high-kick that dropped Hazlett hasn’t gone to Koscheck’s head! In this case though, he is well aware that Lytle has the superior stand-up, which means he’ll be respecting it from the start… I hope.
no chance in hell.
Kos is looking for a win here. He said before, he doesnt care if he is liked or not for his type of fighting so I expect Kos to take him down as soon as possible. If he stands with Lytle, he’s gonna get K0ed eventually.
agreed, I think Kos will have a game plan similar to Hughes game plan when he fought Lytle. Look for Kos to use his superior strength, athleticism, and wrestling ability to dictate this fight
Fighters says they don’t care if they’re liked. But they do…
Fighters want to make money and getting the crowd behind you is a good way to show the suits you’re wanted by the fans.
It would be great for Lytle to get a big win over a top guy for once. He’s always been in the so near, yet so far category. Lost out out on being a TUF champ by a c-hair. His new aggressive approach is much needed. He can’t afford to lose anymore close decisions. Kos is a heavy favorite. This fight is seen as almost a given for him. Can Lytle elevate his game when it counts most. Hope so…
If Koz stands with him…Lytle puts his LIGHTS OUT and if he wants to go to the ground…Lytle breaks one of his limbs..Lytle is one of the most under-rated fighters in the UFC..he has crazy stand-up and his ground game is top notch…Lytle actually should have been the Ultimate Fighter:Comeback winner…but the judges cheated him as is obvious if you watch that fight again…he beat Serra hands down! Lytle dominates Koz by KO in the final minutes of round 1!
I hope Kos tries to stand w/ Chris, and Chris knocks ‘em out. I’d probably laugh a little.
Man I think Lytle is gonna beat ‘em, he is just such an animal when it comes to striking. Who wants to see thialgo Silva vs. Lytle? I know I do. Those two should fight for a top spot.
thiago silva fights at 205 and lytle at 170
Kos WILL stand with Lytle, but not the way everybody thinks. Lytle will have the advantage inside the pocket in those crazy exchanges and has 1 hitta quitta power in both hands. But Koscheck will be safe outside the pocket thanks to his improved footwork. He can move in and out throwing combos, while avoiding the haymakers, and has kicks in his arsenal. On top of that, he has the most impressive wrestling credentials in the UFC and a better athelete but hasn’t shown any kind of GnP or submission defense.
Lytle has a good chance of winning if he sharpens up his sloppy but underated jiujitsu and also if he suckers Kos into either exchanging with him or and execute some submissions. If Kos can develop a plan to avoid those worst case scenarios while still executing his offense, it would be a guarentee UD at worst. I’m hoping that Kos can push a fast/disciplined pace and hurt Lytle badly in this 1.
ewww, why are you rooting for Kos? He’s such a fag. I hope to see Lytle get a KO victory over Kos. Lytle is such a great fighter even though he has a lot of losses. Only twice he lost because of a cut. He’s never been knocked out or submitted and I’ll be damned if Koscheck is the first to do it!
lol. Lytle’s tough and fun to watch but can’t beat a top 10 for the life of him. I hope Kos foot stomps him, hacks at his leading leg, or just keeps elbowing the same rib allll night. Lytle always loses his bounce after some irritating stuff like that.
Who cares about this matchup…boring.
has lytle ever won? this is the guy they GAVE to matt hughes to so he could earn another title shot. Lytle shoudl be released from the UFC sooner than Lutter IMO. I mean he’s lost 6 fights in a row!
Where the hell have you been?! He’s won 3 of his last 6, his most recent a 33 second KO
Against who? Ross Pointon?
I think Kos is probably going to look a lot like GSP in this fight.
