Also worth mentioning: He plans to put a “burque” beat down on newly-minted UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre, if the two ever lock horns. Juicy.

Oh come on. GSP would smash this guys face and then shave his head to add insult to injury. Concentrate on avenging Kos loss dude.

Diego would give GSP a run for his money. Diego has never been finished in a fight and he’s got really good cardio. That would be a great fight to watch, but first thing’s first: he has to finish Luigi Fioravanti, who’s coming off a good win over Luke Cummo. Diego is a good fighter, and while I rooted against him when he fought Fitch and Koscheck, he IS exciting to watch.

These days everyone wants a fight with GSP. I don’t think that Diego deserves it. As for giving GSP “a run for his money”… c’mon man! Diego should give this “run” to Koss and or Matt Hughes first!

I dont think Diego deserves it right now, but I dont think he should have to win too many more fights before fighting for the title. After all, Diego was F*cked out of a title fight back when he was unstoppable. He should have easily been awarded a title fight back then….He beat everyone form Nick Diaz to Karo…His title shot is over due, I dont think he hsould have to get too many wins under his belt before getting a title shot.

He should fight Luigi, if he wins, then he should fight Tiago Alves or Kos, and if he wins, he should then get a title shot.

Completely agree. Look at Nate Quarry, he had one fight then went against Franklin. Diego worked his ass off and got nothing, and he won the show!

Diego should get to avenge the loss to Kos, then be in line for a title shot. The only reason Kos won that fight was because Diego was half dead from staph going into the fight, and Kos still couldn’t finish him. Then Fitch dry humped his way to a less than convincing split decision over Diego. Sanchez should be one win away from a title shot.

before i say anything, Im going to say that (imo) Fitch is next in line for a title shot…
A rematch between Kos and Diego would be a very good fight for both fighters right now..I would definetly be interested in seeing that fight..
But to fight for a title shot?, I dont know if that is appropriete, because I would think the winner of Hughesus/Serra would get a crack at the winner of Fitch/GSP for WW gold..

Comment by john
2008-04-25 09:18:49

Stager Lee, I actual dont believe that the winner of Hughes/Serra will get a crack at the title. Matt Hughes will never fight for the welterweight title again, nor do I believe he wants to. If Serra wins, I think they will wait to give him a rematch against GSP until they can hold an event in Madison Square Garden. UFC is all about maximizing revenue…and I really believe that the only place GSP vs. Serra 3 will happen is at Madison Square Garden.

Diego will beat Luigi. Then he should fight Koschek, who I know he will beat if he is health (only time he lost to Kos was when he was half dead, he was so sick he thought he had to retire from mma, and he was still undefeated at that time, so I know it was not just some excuse…He was really Ill!

After he beats Kos, he should face Alves for the #1 contender spot!, if Alves already got his title shot then Diego should fight for the title right away, if not he should face off against Marcus Davis (assuming Davis beats Swick) for the #1 contender

I know Diego was ill,but I don’t think that would change the outcome. Kos has way better stand up and Diego can’t take him down,so all Kos has to do is hit him a few times in another BORING fight. They are both to scared to get KOed or finished (because of all the trash talk),for it to be an all out war.

Muahahahahaha…I doubt it. He couldn’t come close to GSP on his best day. GSP is a cardio machine and waaaay stronger. GSP would stuff all his takedown attempts and punish him for trying.

what you guys dont realize is that diego is a winner every night win or lose. Hes got the hottest chick in game Ali Sonoma. ive seen some of the other fighters wifes and girlfriends and they don’t come close. Maybe Arlovski’s chick and Arianny Celeste whos burkamans chic. but Ali is still finer than both.

they flipped the pic. haha. the UFC logos on the gloves are reversed.

and cmon man, diego should imitate bisping and go down to his natural weight class. bisping was okay on LH and looks really good on MW.
diego should go down to LW after a rematch with kos, so that he would have an easier time taking people down.

Diego is still a dreamer i see, even after such a poor fight wit Kos,he wants to keep flappin his lips about ST.PIERRE now,WOW,this guy didnt learn a thing about giving respect where it is deserved!!!! G.S.P. would light him up like the fourth of july!!!! and there is no doubt about it!!! GEORGE is in his prime,he may actually be even a bit short of his prime!! we have just started to see what this fine tuned machine can really do,cause he will be around for awhile yet,and on the top of the world to boot!!! the only fighter i would consider a good fight for G.S.P. would be ANDERSON SILVA,now that would be awesome!!!

Even if he does beat GSP, GSP will do what he always does: train harder and bounce back with a way to beat you so convincingly that you realize the level he is on.

2008-04-24 04:49:09

I’d love to see it. I guess he uses the whole training camp thing to try and fuel him against GSP. I don’t know why he’s so sentimental about GSP going to his training camp? Get over yourself dude! You’re the one that left the camp, not him. He acts like the universe revolves around him or something.

But yeah, now that he’s bigger and stronger, I think he’s ready for a re-match with Kos, and maybe fight Karo, then get GSP and or a fight with Fitch somewhere in there.

2008-04-24 07:11:49

I don’t think it’s about getting over himself, it’s about training side by side with a guy you might have to fight for a title some day. When the time comes to train for that fight, then what? I think he made an extremely unselfish move by leaving the team he’d been with for years to pursue his dream. There very easily could have been a conflict, but he made the right move.

I think Diego made a mistake leaving his trainer. Now GSP is training under him. Diego is a very good fighter, but he wouldn’t stand a chance against GSP. Especially, since GSP would know all of his greatest weaknesses training under his old trainer.

I think GSP vs Diego would be one of the best fights to watch at the moment. I am not saying that he would win, but if you go by the saying styles make fights then I could see this being in contention for fight of the year. They both have incredible cardio, Diego has one of the hardest chins in the division, admittedly GSP is more well rounded and would be stronger, but there are not that many fighters out there with a passion and a determination to win like Diego. I would really look forward to watching that. As there are a million more GSP lovers out there a whole heap of Diego haters, I expect there to be a ton of negative comments about this matchup, but if you put your hate and love to one side, you would probably see that it would be an exciting match. Again before any of you have a heart attack, I did not say Diego would win, I am saying it would be an exciting match, and probably not as easy as a lot of you might think it will be. I actually like both Diego and GSP so there is no bias here.

Diego’s striking sucks and he won’t be able to take GSP down (not that it would be a good idea anyhow). GSP would pick him apart on the feet, ala Hughes 2. I agree, Diego has great cardio and determination,so that would just prolong a one sided beatdown.

I think Diego is the one guy who can give GSP problems in the WW division. His ground game is continually getting better and his cardio and determintion are unmtched. As he continues to work on his strength and BJJ I think he would give GSP a 5 round war.

i agree that Diego was robbed of a title shot when he was on his hot streak.but N.rock Quarry had won 3 fights before he got his title shot.he beat in no paticular order
Mr International Shonie Carter by tKO
Lodune Sincaid by tKO

Diego/Alves would be good right now. Alves hasn’t done enough to be next in line and a win over him would get Diego back in the mix. For what it’s worth a fight between Diego and GSP would be very marketable. Of course he doesn’t beat him, but he puts up a fight. Only BJ Penn could beat GSP right now and he would need the best fight of his career to do so.

His loss to Kos was due to Diego being ill, However that loss to Fitch surprised me. Diego is better all around than Fitch. another fight with Kos would be a good match and close. Kos may not be well liked but he continues to get better with every fight. Diego is also not well liked and has fallen off the latter a bit with those two losses. Diego needs a couple of real tough fights and wins to get back into contention. As for Fitch I think he is way overrated to say the least. I do like the way these WW’s are throwing fuel on the fire for Gsp to feed off. As for Diego and Fitch ’s comments on fighting GSP , There not realistic so I will not even go there.

What the fuck you guys talking about Diego deserves a title shot after Fitch losses. I would like for fitch to win though. GSP has already bitched Hughes twice and Serra doesnt have a chance. Diegos next, where they should fight is in Alb where the Nightmare is from and where im from, also where GSP trains that would be awesome. Diego has never had a beat down it would be an awesome fight
