I think he is right about Dana being too hard headed to accept other offers… really restricts the fight pool at times.

“There was no need to look at the title” LOL

What a stupid question to ask…

Its refreshing to hear the Big John said that he does have a desire to one day return to ref’ing.

Love this guy. He really needs to return to the UFC, doing all the big fights. At least for us fans. He was always by far the best ref. I’m sure one day we’ll see him again…

This host is the biggest douch in sports media!
I dont know if you have watched other OTR’s but if you have? You must have noticed what a dildo he is..
He is on Canada’s list of “Canadians we are ashamed of”….He is placed next to Kalib Starnes..

MANIA- off topic, but have you seen the Macdonald/Doerksen fight? Mazagatti stopped it, and then Macdonald began to pound on a knocked out Doerksen again. Is there any buzz about this??

Comment by Mad A
2008-04-22 12:00:23

I saw an interview where Macdonlad said he stopped punching when he felt Doerksen was out, ref said keep going, so he went back to punching, then the ref realized that doerksen was out. the ref later apologized to Macdonald, saying it was his fault.

i watched an interview of Macdonald, and he said that Mazagatti has admitted it was his error he didn’t know if doerkson was out, and told Jason to keep going. seeing the video that seems odd, but apparently Jason knew he was out from the elbows and was instructed to keep fighting.

I was there and it was completely mazagatti’s fault. he is the worst ref in the ufc. Doerksen was completely out and he didn’t step in to stop it, he kind of just stood over Doerksen and looked like he wanted to stop it, but just froze….so Macdonald just punched him again. I remember commenting on that with everyone around me. Mazagatti sucks.

Matt Lindland Signs With Affliction, Calls Out UFC
By Jason Perkins | April 21, 2008
Matt Lindland Signs With Affliction, Calls Out UFC
Matt Lindland is set to fight at Affliction’s inaugural show on July 19th. Lindland (20-5) made the announcement on Friday’s edition of HDNet’s Inside MMA.

Lindland last fought 15 months ago against Fedor Emelianenko, dropping the fight via submission in the first round due to armbar.

No opponent has been named but Lindland did speak about his decision to sign with Affliction over the other major promotions that courted him, including EliteXC, Dream, and Strikeforce. He had the following to say about EliteXC in particular.

“They’re doing big things; they’re on CBS, and they’re putting out a good product,” Lindland told The Fight Network Radio. “We talked, but I don’t think they had the same budget that Affliction had. [Affliction] wanted to sign top fighters, and it sounds like they’re doing that.”

When asked about the UFC, Lindland was less complementary.

“The only organization that wasn’t willing to make me an offer was the UFC,” Lindland told Fight Network. “They don’t want the best fighters; they want the best fighters that they can control.”

Love him or hate him, bottom line is Dana White made MMA what it is today. If his love for the sport (and rich friends) weren’t there, UFC and MMA still would be an underground thing. He needs to put the people paying for his product (the fans) first, and stop being so hard headed towards certain fighters and cross promoting, and hopefully with the emergence of elitexc and the sport going mainstream, we’ll get some of those superfights!

totally agree! what was it said that they make up 90% of mma. wich fighters would you like the ufc cross-promote, surely none of their champs. there is no one even close to the current ufc champs outside the org, with the exception of maybee nog. i still wanna see the ufc’’s best go against the other ufc’best. wait until that’s done and maybee if one of the others can make a real name and produce some worthy chalengers then cross-promote.

Comment by kevin
2008-04-22 12:54:52

could shut Gary shaw up, as well as sink his organization if you do what he wants, cross promote, destroy all thier champs, put them out of business. The hdnet card is shaping up to be great, better than the elite shows, but one card doesn’t make a company

shutting shaw up would be worth it, i like the way you think. and is hd-net ever gonn have its own organization. it sounds like adreneline, affliction, m1 and hd-net are trying to morph into one. that might actually work.

One card doenst make a company…..EXACTLY. All these little promotions can have their one big crappy event (Yamma) or put together a string of crappy events (Elite XC) but they’re not going to take the UFC down. They’ll bleed money until they just collapse.

So is the UFC going to cut all ties with Affliction now? I’ve noticed you don’t see Dana wearing too many Afflictions shirts anymore. Is he not going to allow his fighters to wear their gear either?

Great question. I wouldn’t be surprised to see any mention of Affliction banned in the UFC. I could see Dana standing outside as people made their way into events handing out free t-shirts in exchange for their Affliction shirts.

I hope he knows how to make $90 t-shirts…LOL!

to some of the newer guys it might, but there’s always tapout. plus the money is already getting alot better. the fight, ko and sub of the night at the last ppv were $75k right? unless i read that wrong. it used to be like 5k and 10k. i think w/ the new sponsership deals w/ companies like bud-lite and burger king fighter wont have to rely as much on their own personal sponsers. i hope it woks out this way cuz they deserve it.

With everything that’s come out on the UFC and with so many fighters leaving due to Dana’s horrible management and favortism it seems like UFC will be going to the dogs (i.e Boxing with little gloves since all the hicks want to see is the stand up fight). Truth is Dana did well for the sport but he didn’t make it what it is today, the fighters did and in my opinion you don’t treat the men that make you the money the way he does. It’s just bad business.

I’ve always liked McCarthy, he doesn’t seem to have a problem telling it like it is. I agree with everything MMA Mama had to say about Dana. He has a lot of room for improvement, but I’m afraid he might be too full of himself to ever take constructive criticism and change some of his ways.

He has no love for the sport at this point, hes’ made that very clear over and over. Any other organization that wants to start up their own fights is viewed as competition that may take money out of his greedy little hands. I thought he bought and fought so hard to get UFC up and going again because he “loved the sport”. Anyone who shows the slightest hint of disagreeing with how he works is given crappy fights that they are too good for, they make crap money and no one ever sees it. It’s happened before and it will continue to happen. There are plenty of great fighters who are no longer fighting for UFC, I wonder why if Dana treats all his frighters so great as he claims.

I think Big John is a great talker and has a less abrasive way of saying things than Dana White has. Imagine if he was brought on to be the face of the UFC to the public. I really think that Dana rubs people the wrong way.

Dana rubs people the wrong way, because every time he opens his mouth he is degrading somebody, or saying how important he is. He doesn’t even give respect to the people who really make things happen. He curses every other word to make himself sound big, while looking like a punk because he only talks about guys behind their back.
