hmmm….I think it would be interesting if he could avoid anderson’s pinpoint strikes. Let GSP beat Fitch and I say throw him to SIlva if he can do that.
I’d prefer that. He’s likely have plenty of contenders at WW, and he’ll likely remain dominant among them for at least a while. I think he matches up poorly with Silva, and I really don’t want the WW division or GSP’s records tarnished by a potentially lopsided loss.
I sure hope he doesnt go to middleweight anytime soon. GSP is only 26 years old, let him clear out the division first and if he is successful then we can start talking about a move to middleweight. Keep in mind GSP has NO title defenses yet in his career. He needs at least 4 title defenses before even thinking about switching divisions.
Why is everyone so fixated on GSP fighting Silva? I think there plenty of interesting math ups for both fighters without facing each other causing 1 of the UFC’s Big Guns to suffer a loss!
the reason that we’re all “fixated” on gsp fighting silva is because it would be the greatest fight of all time! both are considered, my many, to be the best pound for pound fighters on the planet. ppl want to know who truly is the best of the best. me personally, i don’t think gsp has a chance against silva. silva is like freaking superman of the ufc, until they find his kryptonite he is unbeatable.
if this was wrestling they could make the greatest fight of all time a triple threat match! gsp vs sivla vs bj penn! think about it guys, 3 titles up for grabs, winner take all. hey i can dream right…
lol, but I’m actually more (maybe the same) excited to see BJ beat GSP to hold 2 titles at once. No one else can do that -silve to big for ww and gsp can’t beat silva at mw

How can one say , so and so can’t beat this person. Come on have we hot learned anything yet. GSP has a great chance of beating eithr Silva or Penn. He is a great fighter.
I agree John, however if GSP’s last 2 fights are a sign of what’s to come, he has to move up eventually. As much as I like GSP to win, a competitive fight would be nice. Hughes and Serra didn’t even touch him. When someone is making the likes of Hughes look like an amature,it’s getting close to time to move up. Same goes for Silva, he has to move up to challenge himself (maybe super HW)lol.

Not only is there still fights GSP could fight in the UFC welterweight division, there is still going to be WW fighters signed with in time..There is quite a few great WW’s the UFC should pick up….GSP has lots of fights at WW..Moving up should not be a option for GSP right now..The future??yeah, but right now??No way..
Anderson will defend his belt at least 20 more times before he retires
and no one in welterweight comes even remotely close to gsp’s skill. Gsp destroyed the top two contenders in welterweight. I don’t even recall Matt Hughes or Serra landing a single hit on Gsp.
I say let the two fight to see who is the greatest in the world.
We deserve to see this fight long before any GSP Silave fight would make sense. BJ has cardio now and BJ without cardio made GSP look like a fool for the few minutes he had wind in his lungs.
Cardio and a huge weight disadvantage. I think BJ has proved he can’t put on the weight and keep the cardio.
GSP is a much improved fighter from then. Wouldn’t be as lopsided as his last 3 matches for sure, BJ is better on the ground than Serra.

I think it’s a matter of how BJ gains the weight. He’ll be fine if he does it over time in conjunction with regular cardio training. He’d have to comit to the WW division after such a body change, but this is what BJ wants. Also, if you look at his physique during the Hughes and GSP losses, you can see he’s easily sporting maybe 15-20 lbs of fat. If he gains properly, he can easily maintain good cardio at 170.

BJ does not perform half as well, at WW, as he does LW..In a WW fight BJ has to stop his opponant with in 2rounds or he lose’s…In a LW fight BJ can go 5rds at a way faster speed then at WW.
God man, these two now have become such rivals, with the fans at least, that this HAS to happen!!! I maintain that among the more than casual fan, this is the most desired rematch out there right now. This shit better happen in the next year, two more fights for each, then lets do it.

Why? Anderson would win easily. Okay wait, Maybe after Silva finally gets beat, and he is in the twilight of his career, and GSP is still somewhat in his prime, this might go either way, but right now or anytime soon, I don’t think so. I would rather see Silva move up and fight some top guys at 205 like Chuck or Rampage

sorry, I thought you wre talking about GSP and Silva. You are right, I would love to see the rematch with Penn!
Why doesnt GSP worry about making one title defense before he moves up. Lets not get ahead of ourself. there are plenty of guys at WW he has to fight, Fitch, Alves, etc.
btw, if they did fight, i think gsp would problaby get destroyed by silva. anderson is a better striker, and gsps takedowns would be negated by his bjj. i dont think it would be even as close as some people think it would be.
Watch the video dude. You don’t get the impression that he’s “worried” about fighting Silva. He was answering the question. Silva hasn’t had any competition for a while and people want to see him run through his paces. GSP seems to be the only guy with enough talent to do that. I think that with GSP’s takedowns and pure strength, as well GSP is really tough to submit, it wouldn’t be lopsided at all. GSP wouldn’t stand a chance on his feet though. Anderson is untouchable there.
Why do people assume it’s GSP who is “worried” about moving up? He’s clearly not, and anyone who’s heard his interviews on the topic would realize that.
GSP just answers the questions asked him. He’s not pushing the fight, nor suggesting that he’s going to move up. In fact, he’s mentioned several times how having training partners at 185 (Marquardt, for example) would discourage him from making a permanent move up anytime soon. He’s also stated he wants to completely clean out WW. GSP is focused on fighting WW, and he’s well on his way to cleaning out that weight class.
I agree with most of the posters here, even though GSP is my favorite fighter in the UFC (I’m not stating he is the best), I still think that Silva would win the fight between them, it might not be an easy fight for any of them, but at the end Silva is the better fighter at this present time, no doubt about it; but if GSP moves to the Middleweight class in 2 years, with all the experience he might have gained by then, and Silva getting a little older, who knows, we, the fans could be for the THE BIGGEST FIGHT in UFC history, in the meantime, Congrats to GSP for his win against Serra, let’s hope he continus to grow within the UFC
Are you even listening to what he is saying. The interviewer is bringing it up,not GSP and he said, MAYBE and he didn’t say it would be tommorrow either.
GSP HAS YET TO SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND THE WW BELT - Not even once!!!!
Let’s get at least ONE title defense before division hopping. GSP hasn’t cleaned out his division. There is a clear cut #1 contender that he MUST fight (Fitch). After that, there are several more fights at WW that would be solid. I mean, if Serra can KO GSP, than Marcus Davis sure can. So if he becomes #1 contender in the WW division, he deserves a shot at GSP. (before everyone goes nuts, I’m not saying Davis is in line for a title shot. Two more wins and he very well could be. PS - A fight against Swick is POINTLESS)
The MW division is almost cleaned out - Silva hasn’t even “completely” cleaned out the division. A division is cleaned up when there is absolute silence when asked “who gets the champ next”. In the MW division, right now the answer is clearly Yushin Okami.
are you guys really sold on fitch??? I think a new and improved (ripped) diego sanchez has the best shot at GSP, and for the record, GSP has NEVER even defended his title while Silva has never unsuccessfully defended it!!

I think Diego and GSP would make for a solid fight. I’m sure GSP is not done at WW. He still needs to beat Fitch, Diego, and possibly an incoming Jake Shields or Carlos Condit.
GSP says a Silva fight “might be interesting”, and somehow a bunch of people take it as if he said “I can beat Anderson Silva right now” lol.
You mean like BJ. BJ Hops divisions like a freeken rabbit. BJ has ZERO title defences at WW and that doesn’t seem to bother you. I don’t know if I would use “If Serra can KO GSP” to back up an argument. Last I seen, Serra couldn’t even TOUCH GSP. That’s like saying “if Hughes can beat GSP….”. You make it sound like GSP said, he was moving to MW, he was SIMPLY answering a question. If anything GSP said, he wouldn’t move up, because it would conflict with his training partners (friends).
Just because they are both concidered to be pound for pound the best doesn’t mean they should fight. People think BJ is P4P and others like john think it’s Fedor, doesn’t mean they will fight. I know, because of the weight difference right? Well, that’s why it’s called pound for pound. If they weighed the same ammound they would just be known as the best period.
GSP has a lot to do before getting in the cage with Silva. Like beating some guys at WW. Probably BJ Penn. I think the Penn rematch has been brewing for a very long time and that would need to happen first.
GSP has already cleaned out almost every top fighter at WW. His list of victims is nearly the entire WW top 5 in the world, and the one he’s missing, Fitch, is his next opponent (who doesn’t match up with GSP well at all).
There’s also a distinction to be made about title defenses. The way things played out, GSP cleared out almost all the WW division already, and sent 2 top fighters down to LW (Sherk and Penn). Title defenses or not, he’s going to have the division cleaned out sooner rather than later. He’ll defend his belt plenty, but he doesn’t have to re-defeat guys like Karo, Hughes, Serra, etc, just to have the victory classified as a “title defense” rather than one where he just wins the belt.
He beat some decent competition, but he didn’t clear out the WW division by a long shot. He then got his head cleaned out by a handful of punches from Matt Serra. He’s avenged that loss, but it still proves he’s vulnerable to the many fighters in the division who are better than Serra.

The only thing that proves is what all the realistic and observant people have been saying for a year. Serra can beat GSP on the ONE AND ONLY BAD NIGHT of his career. ANOMALIES shouldn’t be used to predict future outcomes. Wouldn’t GSP’s last 3 fights be more telling of how vulnerable he will be.
He needs to beat Fitch and the Pitbull before moving up. If he wins both fights, could see a fight with AS happening next summer. Don’t see him winning though. I believe Silva is too strong for GSP. It would be a good fight and it should be made. Right Dana?
the question is why dont silva move up, he has cleaned out the entire division, why would’nt he want to challenge himself by moving to lt.heavy, he has already beaten a damn good lt. heavy in henderson. that would be the way to go, not fight a blow up middle weight. the lt.heavy is stacked and their is all kinds of match ups out there.
Let’s just cross our fingers that GSP doesn’t have mental issues coming into the fight, and that BJ comes in great shape, and that BJ doesn’t break his rib. I want to see a top BJ Penn vs. a top GSP. All-out war for 5 rounds. Instant classic.
MAN, what is with the mental issues? OK he’s freeken mental. He only lost 2 fights. He FUCKEN RAPED those 2 guys in ALL 3 rematches. HE HAS BEATEN EVERYONE HE’S FACED. HE’S WW CHAMP (2 times) MENTAL ISSUSES ARE GOOD, THEY ARE AN ASSET. THEY MAKE A FIGHTER GET BETTER EVERY FIGHT. If people are going to INSIST that GSP has mental issues, they should at least use “mental issuses” in the right context. Here’s an example: GSP will destroy his next opponent, due to his high level of mental issues. Or: Fitch is focusing on his mental issuses in training,in hopes of defeating GSP.
Wow, GSP cant get any love! Granted, he did just beat Serra…and convincingly. He is not the best pound for pound fighter in the world. I dont think this is even up for debate. If you look at GSP’s attributes and evaluate them against the other “top” p4p guys, he just doesnt add up. His speed and athleticism are the only things that he has that is as good or better then anyone else. His boxing/hands are no where near the level of ASilva nor is his BJJ. I also think that if he bumps up in weight to 185 he is going to lose a little bit of his speed and agility which are the only things saving him. He needs to stay at 170 and enjoy the feeling of being the best 170lbs fighter in the world…I just dont see his talent transitioning from weight class to weight class. I also think if BJ moves up to 170 and shows up in shape…GSP could be in big trouble.
PS…to the guy who compared Matt Serra’s BJJ to that of BJ’s and Anderson Silva’s…please stop talking because that is just crazy! BJ and AS are light years ahead of serra on their backs. Do we need to remind you of the AS vs. Lutter fight! That might be the worst triangle choke I have ever seen!!!
The guys that slow down when they move up, are the ones who just gain 15 lbs of FAT. GSP is ALREADY 185-190lbs RIPPED. By moving up and not having to cut so drastically he could add a few more pounds of muscle. You forgot to mention wrestling where he owns everyone. Silva’s takedowns and TD defence are no where nere GSP’s. There’s more to MMA than boxing and BBJ. IMO there is no one that mixes everything together as well as GSP. Not taking anything away from Silva, but isn’t it agreed to by most, that the WW div. is the most stacked and the MW, the weakest. This should be taken into consideration. Lutter is a bum and I think GSP could do better than him. We know Silva can lose a round to a great wrestler (Hendo). Now we just need a wrestler smart enough (Hendo admitted he wasn’t)to stick to his strengths, not play into The Spider’s. Maybe GSP can’t beat Silva, but he is the best bet. GSP is a master at taking away his opponents strength.
I agree totally . It is almost like nobody watched that fight with Lutter or Hendo. Silva could not stop Hendo’s takedowns or do anything from the bottom except avoid getting pounded in that first round. If Hendo sticks to his game plan I believe he wins easily. Silva is by far the best striker however not the best all around. Going out on a limb here however I think Silva is overrated at this time. We have to see more quality fights from him to be able to judge just how good he is . Stating he is the best pnd for pnd is highly premature. As for GSP , The fighters that he has faced and his record speaks for itself.
P4P rankings are lame and overrated. For some reason humans love trying to match things up that aren’t matchable. One pound of GSP has a lot more muscle in it then one pound of BJ. That should be the objective P4P ranking.
People here love getting worked up. Like they don’t have enough drama in their lives so they come here to get worked up or something. Anyhoo. Luv ya.
Pound for pound ranking aren’t lame, they are just misunderstood by MANY. P4P is how dominant one is against his peers. You could have a LW who destroys all his competition, yet he could lose to a middle of the road HW. It wouldn’t be fair or acurate to say the HW is a better fighter. P4P is used to compare talent level respective to different weight classes.
To GSP’s credit he does have the best functional wrestling in MMA. Silva has the best stand up. And BJ has the best jits. That’s why these are the top 3 P4P. Right now, it’s clearly AS, GSP, BJ as far as order.
The great thing is that it very likely that two of these guys will fight (Penn/GSP rematch) and it’s even, though perhaps mostly fantasy, suggested that GSP might fight Silva some time. Might as well through BJ in the mix with that as well, since he’s already fought Machida at (LHW of HW?). So he could move up as well, if he wanted to. His frame doesn’t suit it nearly as well as GSP, but he’s capable of anything.
I’ll settle for BJ/GSP 2. Then we can see just how good GSP is. I wouldn’t bet against BJ, though.
I agree with a lot of the other posts on here. I would rather see a BJ vs. GSP rematch. Would be a much better fight. I think GSP is very dominating for the MW division but lets not get carried away here. The way Silva has been beating fighters in that division has just been amazing to watch. Think, Hendo went the distance for the belt, with Rampage and turns around and gets blasted in the 2nd round by Silva. If Hendo cant do it how in the world would GSP be able to control him a whole fight on strictly wrestling. I could be wrong, but GSP would be no match for Silva.
The same way Hendo controlled Silva for the whole first round (with wrestling). Hendo admitted it was STUPID to try to stand with Silva in the second round.
i hate how everyone thinks silva wud destroy gsp. If GSP took silva down, which he definately could, he cud work the ground and pound for sure. stand up goes to silva, but GSP is one of the best wrestlers in MMA, and wrestlers make the best mma fighters
hmmm….I think it would be interesting if he could avoid anderson’s pinpoint strikes. Let GSP beat Fitch and I say throw him to SIlva if he can do that.
GSP, has to stick in the WW division for a while..I dont see him going up to MW for at least 2 years..
I’d prefer that. He’s likely have plenty of contenders at WW, and he’ll likely remain dominant among them for at least a while. I think he matches up poorly with Silva, and I really don’t want the WW division or GSP’s records tarnished by a potentially lopsided loss.

If people are going to INSIST that GSP has mental issues, they should at least use “mental issuses” in the right context. Here’s an example: GSP will destroy his next opponent, due to his high level of mental issues. Or: Fitch is focusing on his mental issuses in training,in hopes of defeating GSP.
gsp knows he wouldnt win that fight thats why he said maybe
KING ANDERSON SILVA!
even GSP cant stop him
Wow, GSP cant get any love!
GSP will be around the WW division for a long time….He could possibly make the move to MW, But that would not be for at least 2/3 years..
“WOW” G.S.P. vs. A.S. about time we get treated 2 A monster mash Let’ get it done !
i hate how everyone thinks silva wud destroy gsp. If GSP took silva down, which he definately could, he cud work the ground and pound for sure. stand up goes to silva, but GSP is one of the best wrestlers in MMA, and wrestlers make the best mma fighters
