Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) co-founder, Bob Meyrowitz, is back in the fight game with a new promotion called YAMMA Pit Fighting, which features a “revolutionary” new surface.

Here’s a video that explains the thought behind its creation:

YAMMA Pit Fighting will debut on April 11 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J.

The show will feature an eight-man heavyweight tournament that includes former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, Travis Wiuff, Sherman Pendergarst, Marcelo Pereira and more.

The winner of the tournament will have to fight three different opponents in the same night to capture the heavyweight crown. However, the winner will not fight more than 25 minutes total (the preliminary matches will last just one round and be five minutes each; the final will comprise three five-minute rounds).

In addition, Eric “Butterbean” Esch will take on Pat Smith in a “Masters Super Fight” and Mark Kerr will attempt to derail Oleg Taktarov (these are two round, five-minute fights).

It should be interesting to say the least.

why would anyone pay good money to see that show filled with washed up fighters?

The guy seems pretty smart and has some good ideas. I can’t believe that he almost bankrupt the ufc. What’s even more amazing is that Dumbo dana white had to save the ufc.

dont be mistaken Dana White did not save the UFC his partners with all the money did, although Dana will ruin and crash UFC in the end.

New revolutionary MMA, YAMMA Pit Fighting, founded by old UFC owner, using old fighters past their prime for it’s debut…. interesting concept though, hope the best for Bob Meyrowitz.

I thought their video was comical, but everybody got to start somewhere and grow slowly from there. Unless you’re Dreams, you don’t have the amount of fighters you’d like to have for the very first show.

I’m not sure what to make of the new surface yet. It’s definitely going to change angles and create new moves or ways to escape.

C’mon Bob…”revolutionary”…gimme a break. Just because the ground surface is different doesn’t make for better fights. Hell, I don’t see this promotion lasting more than a couple months.

Newsflash Bob…You lost your your last big opportunity with the UFC…deal with it.

Hey Mania, is this the way our comments are going to appear from now on?

We’re trying it out. It organizes specific conversations better. Let’s see how much you guys complain first before we try something else. If there are few complaints and the general consensus is to keep it then that’s what we’ll do.

I guess I have the privlage of being the first complainer. Maybe if the font was bigger and the user name was more prominent that would help. And seriously, spell check would be awesome!

I agree, I don’t really care to much about spell check, but I liked the the bigger font ‘much’ better!

What? This new format is awesome, the font is a bit small, but just increase it to the size you like by hitting “ctrl +”. This is much better than the old format, good job mania. Now if you could just get rid of the moderations… (ok, I’m asking too much :) )

I agree about the font, but I love how it groups conversations together and detects double postings.

I suppose that these changes were brought about by the people that view this site from their cell phones and had to scroll down too much whenever someone quoted someone… If you use a computer, it wasn’t a problem.

The new format will take some getting used to for sure. I do like how the conversations are “GROUPED” together rather than tabbed and repeated over and over.

However, like a couple of people had said, the poster’s name should be a bit more prominent. Either a little larger font, or bold. Or how about, once a poster reaches 1000 comments, their name becomes bold. Or have some kind of a color scheme for the number of posts someone has.

Black = less than 1000
Blue - 1001-2000
Red = 2001 - 3000

When I scroll thru the page, I can’t see them names of the posters. I used to be able to read the names as I scrolled because the font of the name was much bigger.

ALSO, I do not like how we can’t type paragraphs, as in skipping a line.

Also, with this new “conversation” feature, it is VERY easy to skip over new responses when re-visiting a thread. I know that I always would scroll down to my last post and continue reading from there. However, people can be responding to comments made long before that and I would never see. Now, everytime someone re-visits a thread, if they want to see every response, they need to scroll thru the WHOLE page, instead of just going to the bottom.

this new format is awesome. love the collapsable replies. now just give us the ability to +/- comments so they get lighter and darker per vote and you’ll be totally set.

the inertia of fights will still take fighters to the edge of the “Yamma” where instead of stopping at a cage they’ll simply trip or twist an ankle. I mean, I could be wrong, but I really don’t see a bright future for the “Yamma.” Should be interesting, at least.

this fight card should be featured at a circus right after the bearded lady sings when everybody is leaving. come on a 400 plus butterbean taking on pat the law cant catch me smith and mark kerr vs oleg this will not appeal to casual fans because they wont no who the hell these freaks are and diehards wont waste there money to see over the hill fighters.

Pat Smith is replacing Big Daddy Goodridge against Butterbean.

The fighting surface is what I figured. It’s like the bowl surface of Chuck Norris’ World Combat League, but caged.

It’s also kinda sad to see how far Ricco Rodriguez has fallen from grace. He has so much talent but not enough dedication. It all started to go downhill when he under-trained against Tim Sylvia.

the whole new serface seem’s pretty cool… but putting some in a clinch against the cage is part of the action.. ya some people are boring with (i.e. Tim Silvia).. but some of them know how to make it exciting by pinning them and landing shots (i.e. Randy couture against Gonzaga) so i think its a waste but i would like to see how it works ….

Actually something clear like a bowl would be great. Then you could take photos under the action and get different angles. It could be too slippy but would different.

I would watch this just for OLEG.

The Pit is interesting, but not ground breaking by any stretch of the imagination. I like the continuous cage more than the rise around the edges.

Keep this comment setup Mania, it’s good stuff.

I just checked Comcast’s website, and they are charging $35 for this event. If it was $9.99 and I had nothing going on, I would have considered buying it. But 35 bucks? Thats practically UFC pricing.

$35 ?? That sucks, I was thinking of checking out, but I can wait. Wow… maybe if they put swords and axes in the corner, then it would be worth it.

This new cage looks like a cool concept. I think even thought the fighter are not really exciting it will be interesting to see how the cage is utilized. They should get some smaller more dynamic fighters in there. People that really know how to move.
