DREAM 2 aoki calvancante rematch
Gesias “JZ” Calvancante (14-1-1) and Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki (14-2)have some unfinished business. And DREAM officials aren’t wasting any time in settling the score according to the official DREAM website.

At the opening round of the DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix on March 15, the much anticipated match-up between Calvancante and Aoki was stopped after Aoki suffered accidental - albeit illegal - blows to the back of the head and neck and was unable to continue.

The bout was ruled a “no contest” and Calvancante and Aoki are set to rematch at DREAM.2 on April 29. The victor had better plan on an early stoppage since they’ll only have two weeks to recover for the next round at DREAM.3 on May 11 at the Saitama Super Arena.

Waiting for them will be Olympic silver medalist and K-1 veteran Katsuhiko Nagata (4-2). Nagata advanced to the second round by defeating Russia’s Artur Oumakhanov via unanimous decision.

For a look at the Calvancante/Aoki stoppage check out the video below:

DREAM.2 will also mark the beginning of the 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix. For a look at the event and a pretty solid fight card that includes fan favorites Denis Kang (29-9-1) and Kazushi Sakuraba (23-10-1) click here.

DREAM officials also announced the second round matches for the Lightweight Grand Prix at DREAM.3 on May 11:

  1. Mitsuhiro Ishida vs. Caol Uno
  2. Joachim Hansen vs. Eddie Alvarez
  3. Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Luis “Buscape” Firmino
  4. Katsuhiko Nagata vs. winner of Aoki/Calvancante

Between DREAM, the UFC, World Victory Road and EliteXC/Strikeforce it’s going to be an amazing and action-packed year of mixed martial arts.

What a great time to be an MMA fan.

Great to hear there’s a rematch. I’ll be pulling for Aoki, but I don’t think his chances are good.

I’m alll juiced about PRIDE - i mean DREAM deciding to have a rematch between these 2 instead of that NC BS. Calvancante will damage Aoki (again) and take the whole thing. He reminds me of a mini Wanderlei Silva but meaner. And by the way Aoki’s pants are atrocious looking.. i mean wtf are they wearing in japan?! (rainbow colored female 70’s disco tights) LOL LOLOL!!! Dana needs to sign this guy. He’d automaticly be #1 contender.

There was nothing illegal about those elbows. On Inside MMA last week Big John McCarthy put it best when he said something like, “I don’t doubt they hurt but they weren’t technically illegal”. Actually maybe Don Frye put it better with a simple, “Bullshit”. This is just DREAM taking the chance to give their boy a second chance because he lost without putting up a good fight.

I’m leaning toward legal, too, but it’s really impossible to tell from the video i’ve seen.

Nice, JZ FTW! If the fight goes down in the same manner as their first, two weeks will be enough for JZ to recover before he woops nagata too.

I would but unfortunately their not airing it here yet. I’ll tell you something else though, if they could grab some of the free but talented agents from the HW division that is currently on the market I’ll go back to watching Pride instead of UFC. I mean, I’ll watch Dream instead lol.

jz and hellboy would eat up young florian, huerta and tys for light afternoon snack, but could hang with penn & sherk

You can see the red mark on Aoki’s back when he rolls over. IMO JZ wasn’t anywhere close to where Aoki was grabbing when he was rolling on the ground. He knew that he was going to lose, so he took a legal hit and made it look illegal!

I would be happy to pay for this event. This features some very solid lightweights and the middleweight tournament is awesome as well. Alvarez vs. Hellboy will be a WAR!

In Russia last Night….Aleksdander Emelienenko won his 4th fight in a row. He got the TKO win over chute box fighter Santos (not cyborg). I didnt see the fight, but I reads that he finished Santos with a flying knee followed by some devestating punches.

Excellent decision to do a rematch, I was very worried they’d rule it a NC and let JZ progress in the tourament without effectively winning.

As for Joachim Hansen vs. Eddie Alvarez: dare I say this might turn into a top candidate for Fight of the Year? I’m absolutely psyched about DREAM2, should be great.

New Fedor interview today from Fightline ..

http://www.fightline.com/news/2008/4…o_320923.shtml

Fedor says Dana is a weird man and doesn’t care what he says; he also says he fights anyone his management puts in front of him and doesn’t care who it is.

He also stated that right now his manager is talks with EliteXC and the UFC to try and find a satisfactory deal!

Dear Fertita brothers:
PLEASE push Dana over to the sidelines while you personally deal with Fedor’s management. Put a Damn Gag order on Dana until you land Fedor, to stop the diarea from flowing out of his mouth and further insulting the Russians. You have been given a 2nd chance at fixing the UFC. Last year the Heavyweight division looked to be close to being complete, then you messed up and LOST Fedor, and the division crumbled.

Sign Fedor, and watch all the other heavyweights fall in to line and be begging to get back in the UFC. Signing Fedor would be the best thing to have ever happened to the Heavyweight division, and then you can stick it to greedy Couture and watch him come crawling back. Then you can really lowball the crap out of him and have him fighting for Peanuts!

Do either of you have any idea what you are talking about? These two fighters are consesus Top 10 LW’s in the world. The UFC only has about 3 of those. Here are two of them, fighting each other.

And for the Cro Cop comment. First off, I am not a Cro Cop fan. However, what organization did he fight in last? UFC. How about before that? PRIDE. You know what that is? The two biggest and best MMA organizations in history.

People shouldn’t talk down upon subjects that they have no idea about. Just skip the thread all together.

amen man well said, I used to be a HUGE fan of Dana, i used to think people like tito ortiz were just cry babys and he is at times, but now i’m starting see now how dana is putting himself ahead of the fighters, they should have someone else deal with the contract negotations, but keep dana around because he can positivly contibute to the UFC
