World Victory Road has scheduled former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin “The Monster” Randleman (16-12) to face Pancrase veteran Ryo Kawamura (8-2-2) at Sengoku II on May 18 at Tokyo’s Ariake Coliseum according to the official Sengoku Web site.
Randleman hasn’t competed since August of 2006, dropping a submission loss to current UFC light heavyweight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at PRIDE 32.
Randleman is just 3-7 in his last ten bouts. The former NCAA national champion was also in trouble with the law in August of 2007 and even more trouble with a gruesome staph infection last October.
In addition to Sengoku II, Randleman is penciled in to face Jeff “The Snowman” Monson (24-7) this June at the Global Fighting Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Here’s hoping the former headliner can make a successful return to the world of mixed martial arts. Standing in his way however is a very tough opponent in Kawamura.
Kawamura was victorious at Sengoku I after defeating Antonio Braga Neto by unanimous decision. He does have power however, ending more than half his fights by way of (T)KO. Simply put, Kawamura may have no intention of leaving things in the judge’s hands.
Knowing Randleman, neither does he. This could be his last run at success in mixed martial arts, so you can bet he’s going to be looking to make a statement.
Here’s one fan that’s still pulling for him.

10 bucks says Kevin backs out with another random part of his body falling apart.
I wish Randleman the best but he is an eratic fighter I suspect of being mentally weak. Sometimes he is exciting, other times he is the most boring fighter on the face of the earth. IMO he is one of the hardest fighters to predict. I root for him, but I would never wager a penny on him.
As for his opponent, I dont know a thing about him except that he is 9-1 and has never fought to a decision in his mma career.
No predictions offered on this one!

I know that Shogun did once beat Rampage but am pretty sure that he isn’t the UFC light heavyweight champ…wait I just checked and he isn’t. He’s hurt AGAIN! Please get healthy Shogun.
