ufc 85
UFC 85 from the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7, will be a pay-per-view (PPV) event, according to the most recent print edition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reports that he has received confirmation from the organization, which contradicts a recent statement from Rashad Evans that indicated it would air for free on SpikeTV.

Evans is booked to fight the former 205-pound champion, Chuck Liddell, in the main event of the evening. Putting a Liddell fight on Spike at no cost didn’t really make much sense to begin with — he is the promotion’s top draw and most recognizable fighter.

Look for UFC 85 to be marketed heavily with a 10 p.m. ET PPV start time, which will be on tape delay, and the LIVE broadcast to be available earlier on Saturday afternoon.

That’s how the last few UFC shows abroad have worked, anyway.

UFC 85 also features that heavyweight showdown between Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Vera, as well as a dynamite welterweight match up between Mike Swick and Marcus Davis.

Did the newsletter mention UFC 86 at all? Any news? Location confirmed for Vegas?

Oh well, so much for the free ride.

Any way I’m looking forward to see Chuck vs Evans

I think Chuck will win but I think it won’t be as easy as many think.

Anyway as I’ve said before Rashad needs a good ass-whoopin, it will be good for him. Hopefully it will help him get that killer instinct which seems to be lacking in most fights.

Dana White’s thought process on that was this:

“Okay, I can either make millions of dollars and air it on SpikeTV, OR I can make millions MORE dollars and air it on PPV.”

He may as well, all of the intelligent people just wait until the next day and watch the fights online, whether its on Spike or not.PPV is a rip-off, and forget having to wait through Spike’s disgustingly obviously male-oriented advertising every 5 minutes. Round/Commercial/Round/Commercial/Round/Commercial/Decision/Commercial/Intro to the next fight/commercial/round1/etc. for the whole night.

I would rather all of the events be on PPV to be honest. Mainly for that very reason, the commercials drive me nuts. Guess it helps that I don’t pay to watch any of them though. lol

Let me tell you what?!?!

There is nothing better than having some friends over the day after the fights, drinking some good cold beers and huddling around the computer watching them on other websites. WOW! That is life and that is living!

All of the intelligent people have good jobs so paying 55 bucks for something you love to watch is not a problem. Even if it was free on Spike get a DVR and hit the little button that says fast forward through the commercials.

This blows….PPV main events are suppose to be title fights. I’m getting sick of these events that don’t have a title defense. Ex. 76 and 78 were a waste of money. Don’t get me wrong, there were some good fights, but I want to see title fights. There are five titles so they should each be defended every five months. Enough with this bullshit of Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans getting headlined when they aren’t the champion of their division.

I tend to agree. I’m not a fan of non-championship main events either, especially with B /B fighters. If they do that, they need a loaded card, which that one is not (yet).

True dat mang. I remember back in the day each division champ used to defend their title every few PPV’s(exactly what Anderson Silva is doing now). That’s why I give Hughes props even though I can’t stand him as a person. He and Tito always defended their titles on a regular basis just like a champ should.

It is humorous to hear people say they would RATHER have all UFC’s as PPV??? They would rather pay an extra $50 a month in cable or save the $600 and watch them the next day for free anyhow???

Dont understand how people can actually be on the side of big business. Would you also rather pay $7.00 a gallon for gas if they delivered the gas to you????? That would be a great idea too, huh? Why not double taxes to nearly P of your income also, why not???? Who in their right mind wouldnt want to see LIVE UFC for FREE with a commercial in between rounds then pay $50 for it when the next day they are all FREE

Dont understand how people complain for something free and would rather pay $50 for a couple or 3 hours. if that was the case, we would all be paying for EVERY footbal game, baseball game etc, etc if that is how you really fee. Yeah why not pay hundreds and thousands a month to watch sporting events when they can be seen for FREE

I thought I read somewhere that the previous tape delay ppv for the UFC have not done nearly as well as the live ppv. I am surprised that they would have Chuck fight on a tape delay when his fights bring in the most cash.

the tape delay brodcast should be cheaper than the live show. but i would rather see the events from overseas be broadcast on SpikeTV for free. there should be at least 1 title defense on every PAY PER VEIW
