Sylvia Rothwell
Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia on Adrenaline MMA:

“Adrenaline is a new promotion, but it allows fighters to fight for other organizations … that’s huge. I’ve got 3 to 4 years left and want to fight as much as possible, so this is the perfect choice for me at this time.”

Former undefeated IFL star Ben Rothwell on Adrenaline MMA:

“Adrenaline will give me the chance to take things to the next level. I’m ready to see how I fare against the best heavyweights in the world.”

– Recent quotes contained within a press release from the newly-minted Adrenaline MMA promotion that shares some thoughts from its two biggest stars, Tim Sylvia and Ben Rothwell. Both fighters train at Miletich Fighting Systems in Bettendorf, Iowa, and are managed by Adrenaline MMA chief, Monte Cox. Dumb, smart or just plain strange decision making going on here?

NOT 1ST!

I’m actually curious to see how well the cross proomotion works out for these two, namely Tim “the turtle” Sylvia.

2 fighters who have already fought each other. Dont expect too many big shows out of Adrenalin. They will mostly be pimping Sylvia and Rothwell out to other organizations which isn’t bad because Tim will get a chance to see how he fares against the top heavyweights in the world. He has basically fought all the top heavyweights in the UFC and at least this will provide for some new and interesting match ups involving Tim in the HW division.

Its not really that I want to see Sylvia, but I do know he is a top heavyweight and more than anything, I am curious to see how the other top HW’s do against Sylvia.

#1 fight I want to see involving Sylvia:
Sylvia vs. mark Hunt! Other possible opponents:

Fedor
Aleksander (would be really interesting)
Barnett
Antonio Silva
Sergei Kharitonov
Cro Cop
Kimbo (If EliteXC wants to cash in on a big $ event, but doing so they will be sacraficing their cash cow Kimbo, because Sylvia would pick him apart., so I dont think this fight will ever happen!
Maybe even a fight with Jerrome LeBanner who has expressed interest in fighting mma and always talks trash about Sylvia.

In Japan, there will be a lot of big money matches involving Sylvia. Japanease fans love Giants and freaks of nature so Sylvia can get a big paydays by fighting Freakshows like:
Hong Man Choi
Bob Sapp

Since Sylvia isn’t exactly a well rounded mma fighter and is more of a kickboxer with a good sprawl fighting mma. he can have a few $$$ match ups against K-1 stars like LeBanner or even Semmy Shilt because Sylvia is basically a K-1 fighter doing mma so the fights wont be that big of mismatches for the K-1 stars. Well not Shilt cause he has a lot of mma experience.

Wasn’t Sylvia saying a couple weeks ago that hhe was happy with the UFC and had no intensions of leaving when every one was saying he was going to leave for M-1? This guy is done. He’s going to promotion thats fighters are Bush League so he can get a title that he can wear wherever he goes (kind of reminds you of the douche bags in high school that wore their varsity jackets all the time, even when it was 90 degrees out). I think I would be able to live a happy life even if ‘Big Dumb Tim’ never stepped in a cage or ring to fight again. Its also kind of crappy that Dana is releasing fighters from their contracts to fight elsewhere (CroCop & Sylvia)as long as they promise to come back one day, but he wont allow Randy to fight Fedor which is guaranteed cash cow. Gayness (not that theres anything wrong with that) all the way around.

Just goes to show how unpopular Sylvia was/is. This is a big story and only 6 people have been bothered to comment.

Whoever said “crickets” is bang on.

I want Timmy to hold a press conference and just a tumbleweed blow across an empty room.

LMAO so right though… and i have to agree it is probably a good move for Tim/fans in light of the fact he’ll be open to more oponents.

I cant wait till more fighters from lw/mw/lhw start leaving ufc for the better opportunities that are bound to exist shortly. Ufc has some of there best fighters fight once in a year or longer sometimes. Hypothetical situation : my favorite fighter has a championship bout. he ko’s his opponent in the first 2 mins. he is unhurt, unscathed, but yet its another yr till his next match! way to go ufc, you suck!

Hmm I wonder who could your favorite fighter be. The only one who fits your description is Matt Serra, and you can hardly blame the UFC for his back injury.

lets see if he actually fights 5-6 times a year like he said he wants to. it would be cool if he was that active, but I don’t see Sylvia fighting more than 4 times a year.

Oh joy, another organization.

Seriously the talent pool is pretty dry right now so I don’t know where they are gonna go to fill up their roster.

I hate all these minor organizations who pimp out their top 1 or 2 fighters and than the rest of the card is a bunch of bums no one cares about.

I wish it was just UFC and Dream. I want all these other organizations to fall through.

Well, judging by what M-1 did with Fedor, looks like we’ll have to see Tim vs Hong Man Choi or Sum Dum Loser or whatever. Then in a year from now, we can whine and complain about how Tim doesn’t fight top competition anymore. Then Randy signs with “Adrelin” and they all sit on the shelf fighting losers. Maybe M-1 is where former champions go when they retire…

Doesn’t matter anyway.

Monte Cox is a fool. He got snookered into the Fedor and M-1 Global mess and look what happened, no contract, no fights, no moe M-1. Now Adrenaline, and he signs his own client and convinces him that he will make more money with him, even though he has no fighters. Thus the non-exclusivity of the contract. Adrenaline is no more an MMA organization than Dana White is a philanthrapist. The thing is Sylvia and Co. just signed on as clients to an MMA agency nothing more. Simply put Monte is the pimp and Sylvia is the ho.

Sylvia is a big joke, the only impressive thing he has ever done is shake Arlovsky into self doubting. I hope he gets knocked out by everyone, he is a knob, a bafoon and needs some real tough guys to pound on him.

I like Tim Sylvia and think he still has gas left in the tank. As a career move though, the Adrenaline concept is pie-in-the-sky stuff. As Diesel-Power suggests the heavy weight talent at the moment is pretty thin on the ground so i just can’t see it happening. You can bag the UFC all you like, but they work bloody hard to put their shows together and they have a solid group of fighters. Adrenaline has two fighters… I think Tim probably had no other choice. The UFC may have shoved him? He doesn’t want to be seen fighting in another, current “lesser” organisation in the states? he probably wouldn’t want to go to Japan both for the lifestyle and the potential B grade competition? What option does he have. It’s adrenalin or nothing, even though Adrenalin may actually be nothing….

The problem is Dana White isn’t into cross-promotions. So it don’t matter if a fighter is free to fight elsewhere. Unless he has a signed UFC contact, he ain’t fighting in the octagon. That’s what kills these type moves. I agree with him because then it turns into boxing, none of these guys will be fighting until the promotion company works out all kinds of money haggling. The fighters may get more, but they will fight way less
