Totally don’t agree with the arse kissing interviewer, hughes would get “taken down” and destroyed by serra like gsp did? Man is he on crack? Hughes would have beaten serra, by ground and pound so could koscheck, hughes only really looked bad against 2 people in the last 10 years, penn and gsp both top fighters, whats serra gonna do? Bad match up style wise? yes for serra.
I can’t wait until Serra wins. I truly believe he was correct in everything he said in this video.
I love the fact your going to lose your money LOL sucker.
wow, this reporter says that Serra would have handled hughes the same way that GSP did. I disagree completely. Fox needs to get some people who know what they are talking about!

Amen.
honestly I am pro GSP and all and really like him and want to see him clean house and possibly match up against anderson silva, but i have to agree with Serra, I think there is something to be said about Serra, hes a little short baddass dude who may not be the best fighter, but he can beat GSP, which is one thing alot of guys cannot do. I think hughes would have beaten Serra, but I think Serra will beat GSP again
Am I the only person not awarding GSP the title already?
GSP is the heavy favorite but Serra is a veteran, who may just be a bad match up for GSP, we will have to see. I have seen most of Serra’s MMA fights. All his UFC fights and many of his grappling fights and I can say that Serra is a TRUE fighter. He has the skills to compete against anyone.
He has fought some pretty good fighters and has never been Dominated, so to just act like this is a gimmie fight, is very naive. GSP and Hughes have had much better careers then Serra and both GSP and Hughes have been Dominated. I cant say that about Serra. He almost did to Karo, what he did to GSP but he shot his load against Karo. He showed me lots of improvement and
a savvy performance against GSP. It was the same exact situation as the Karo fight, but Serra stayed poised and under control and finished GSP.
All it takes for a top fighter to loose, is 1 bad night. As much as I love GSP, he has had that bad night before and its not like it cant happen again.
Ultimately I think GSP will win the fight but I think it will be a better and more competitive fight than many of you seem to think. I things for sure, Serra will put up a much better fight against GSP than Matt Hughes did. Hughes looked pathetic and was dominated worse than what he did to Royce.
Just look at GSP’s eyes and his demeanor when walking to the ring. If he has that fire in his eyes he wont loose. Thats how it is with all the greats. You can see it in there eyes before the fight, if they will perform to their cap0abilities or get upset.

I’m with you on this one. I think GSP will take it but I don’t think it will be nearly as easy as everyone seems to think. GSP has a good fight on his hands.

That is a really good point about the look in GSP’s eyes. It is something that is never mentioned, but I believe is true. When he was walking out for the Koscheck fight I wished I had bet on that fight because you could tell he was going to win based soley on his walk to the ring. Lets hope he has that same look on April 19th.

Thanks jas, thats why its called a fluke.serra hasnt beat a top 20 fighter till gsp.Yves edwards ,the only good fighter serras beat but yves not even a top20 fighter.serras other big win (haha)Was Curran ,who lost his fight in I.F.L.The rest of his wins dont even fight any more.Dallant 4-1 last fight 2001.SO SOUND THIS OUT. FFFFF LLLL UUUU KKKK EEEE!
i feel i should justify my prediction, Serra is to short to be taken down gsp will takes alot of damage shooting on Serra, the only way Gsp will win this fight, is if he uses his reach, but for some reason he allows that gap to close, i think gsp could totally dominate serra on his feet if he used his reach. But who really knows either way it will be a war i cant wait.
Can’t wait till serra kicks GSP’s A$$ again.
Well, then join the 2 or 3 others who left similar comments on this site and… you guys find something to do.
I have GSP as a favorite for this one. Yeah, he could lose but that’s the game isn’t it? For Serra to have the fan base that GSP has, he’ll have to beat many other top contestants, not just GSP. Oh, but he specializes in fighting GSP and throwing words at Matt H.
i feel i should justify my prediction, Serra is to short to be taken down gsp will takes alot of damage shooting on Serra, the only way Gsp will win this fight, is if he uses his reach, but for some reason he allows that gap to close, i think gsp could totally dominate serra on his feet if he used his reach. Being short doesn’t keep anyone from being taken down. GSP is the best MMA wrestler at 170. He’ll take down Serra whenever and wherever he wants. He’ll ragdoll Serra in the clinch.
On the ground, Serra has never shown to be a submission threat from his back. Karo absolutely worked him over in top position, and GSP is way better than Karo at GNP (and everything else).
GSP will take this fight to the ground and make an example of Serra for Serra’s continued trash talk, finishing with brutal ground and pound. Serra will then have to fight Hughes, where he’ll again get battered on the ground, and then he’ll fade into obscurity once again.

i like serra alot but i just don’t think he’s going to be able to handle georges anywhere this time around. but we shall see. until then, i think it’s amusing to see all the over the top predictions and hate going down on the internet…
GSP won’t let this fight go to round four. In 15 minutes it’s pretty much guaranteed he finishes Serra, or gets caught(which we now know is possible”luck” or not)
i feel i should justify my prediction, Serra is to short to be taken down gsp will takes alot of damage shooting on Serra, the only way Gsp will win this fight, is if he uses his reach, but for some reason he allows that gap to close, i think gsp could totally dominate serra on his feet if he used his reach. Please watch GSP tool Sean Sherk, then come back and tell me if you still think Serra is too short to be taken down.
I hope Matt Serra gets the SHIT kicked out him. What an Asshole! He spent all of this time putting Hughes down for being an egomainiac but Hughes has one thing Serra will never have and that is CLASS!
the way i see it serra is going to win again. i know gsp is a awesome fighter, and he is probably the best in the division. however i think serra has his number. also, ever since serra knocked out gsp, he has been afaid to stand up with anyone. gsp went from an awesome striker to a great wrestler. shit, he out wrestled kos and hughes. but i think the ground is the worst place to be if ur fighting serra, the man had awesome bjj skills. sorry gsp, but ur not winning this one.
and before all of the gsp fans go crazy, i’m just using logic.

I don’t know how somebody has somebody else’s number after only 1 fight. If somebody says Rampage has Chuck’s number, Wandy has Rampage’s number, Anderson has Rich’s number, fine. But after only 1 fight?
Anyways, I don’t know how many times this has to be said, but Serra has exactly one submission win in the UFC, against a can, at a lighter division, 6 years ago. Plus, GSP didn’t get subbed when he had BJ Penn on his back, and we know BJ can sub people.

Notables GSP has defeated – Karo Parysian, Matt Hughes(2), Bj Penn, Sean Sherk, Josh Koscheck, Frank Trigg, Jay Hieron.
Notables Serra has defeated – GSP… and … Chris Lytle (I will have you know he only won a SPLIT decision)
For those of you who think Serra has this awesome striking with these heavy hands; He has only one knockout in his professional career – and that was against GSP.
For those of you who admire his “awesome bjj”, he has not submitted anybody professionally since 2002; and has only submitted one person in the UFC. This was a nobody named Kelly Dullanty.
I still can’t believe people think that Serra is going to win this.

Well said Pat….I am also sick of people saying Serra has GSP’s number. He rocked him with a good punch and then finished him. IMO if they fight ten times GSP wins 9. He will completely dominate him in this fight on the ground or wherever he wants. Serra is a BJJ Black Belt, but I have never seen him use it…GSP BJJ is very good (see Hughes vs. GSP III).

Common opponents: Karo Parisyan, BJ Penn
GSP vs. Karo: decision
Serra vs. Karo: decision
GSP vs. Penn: decision
Serra vs. Penn: decision
In all cases, the decision were close enough to be contested by some opinions. That is what decisions are – opinions. Obviously their skill levels are closer than people like to admit. So to dismiss Serra’s first victory is as foolish as it is to say he has GSP’s number off one occurance. I like GSP in the fight but won’t automatically dismiss Serra.
GET READY FOR FLUKE SEASON BABY!!! OH BOY! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Serra will rip out GSPs arm from gaurd!
The GSP nutthuggers are fightnerds that will look up ALLL the the fighters that they think are better than Serra, that GSP beat and use that as their best and ONLY argument as to why they think GSP should win. HAHA!! Fact still remains that Serra simply will outstrike GSP AGAIN(if GSP dares, and I hope he trys) OR will put GSP through a BJJ clinic on the ground (probably most likely).
GSP will be saying “My hats off to Matt Serra. He was the better fighter tonight again….how about best of 5?”. Hey! At least he’s the best in Canada!
Serra’s over there knocking out his black belt training partners while GSP is getting bruised up by his. hahahalol.
serra is very charismatic, i am rooting for him, although it would be devastating, gsp can afford a loss here. look at guys like page and hughes that lost twice to the same person and came back and became champions. gsp is so young he has a vey long future, matt serra is on his way out i hope he can leave his career on an all time high!

Bnf: That look in a fighters eyes that I talked about doesnt just go for GSP, but for all top fighters. For Example:
Anderson Silva, just look at his eyes when he is walking out of the tunnel and you can see the fire and the focus. When a top fighter looks like that, 9 out of 10 times he will win the fight! Look at Silva’s eyes and Rich Franklin’s eyes when they came out for their 2nd fight. Silva had the fire, Rich already had the look of defeat in his eyes….That does transfer in the Octagon.

Matt hughes twice top 5, most dominate welter weight of all time only lossing to penn and gsp in last 7 years.
josh koscheck top 5 out wrestled best wrestler in MMA
karo parisyan top 5,never being finished
bj penn 2/3 of all spectator thought gsp won like the judges, your just hating. current light weight champ
sherk only lost twice hardly a can and was light weight champ, just hating again.
Trigg is no can, he was a top contender for years, gsp just made him look like one.
WHO has beaten more accomplished fighters? I’d like to see your list, BTW I think your nuts but am just humoring you.
If gsp destroys serra I won’t be adding him to his list of accomplishments as he’s a can himself;p

Right, Hughes can be a prick just like Matt Serra can. This is anyones fight as much as I would like it to be one sided in favor of GSP, it still could go either way. Matt Serra is kind of like Chuck the way he seems so relaxed and focused before a fight and even the though I hate him I’m still not going to count him out. This fight is too close to call.

I don’t know how you figure that. Sera wasn’t dominating GSP until he tagged him and then the TKO finish. If you are talking about dominant finishes, I don’t see how much more dominant one can get than Shonie Carter KHTFO with a spinning back fist. If you are going to look at it that way ,Serra has been dominated worse than GSP because GSP has never been KOed and Serra HAS.

I couldn’t agree more. A fighters eyes and demeanor say a lot on how a fighter will perform. When GSP fought Serra he lost that fight before it even started. He looked like he was going to a funeral, not a championship fight. The exact opposite was seen when he fought Kos. He had fire in his eyes and his confident swagger as he walked to the cage. GSP says he learns from his mistakes and he would never take a fight if he was messed up like at 69,so I doubt we will see GSP mope into the cage ever again.

Not only can he take guys like Hughes,Penn,Sherk an Kos down, he can take them down at will. Against these 4 fighters GSP attempted 12 takedowns and he got 12 takedowns. He can and will take Serra down,if he chooses to.

Uh, you obviously didn’t see those fights if you think the GSP-Karo fight or the Serra-Karo fight were close or even remotely controversial.
GSP dominated Karo (in GSP’s first UFC fight) winning a UD.
Karo dominated Serra, pummeling him with GNP, and won a UD against Serra.
the way i see it serra is going to win again. i know gsp is a awesome fighter, and he is probably the best in the division. however i think serra has his number. also, ever since serra knocked out gsp, he has been afaid to stand up with anyone. gsp went from an awesome striker to a great wrestler. shit, he out wrestled kos and hughes. but i think the ground is the worst place to be if ur fighting serra, the man had awesome bjj skills. sorry gsp, but ur not winning this one.
and before all of the gsp fans go crazy, i’m just using logic.
That’s poor logic. GSP made it a point to beat Kos and Hughes at their own game. Both Kos and Hughes were saying they had the better ground game. Hughes said he lost the fight because he got away from his bread and butter (wrestling). Isn’t it a coincidence that GSP beat Hughes with an arm bar (the same way hughes beat him). Why has GSP been spending so much time on his striking,if he plans on just out wrestling Serra (logic would suggest he is going to use that striking). Just beating Serra won’t be enough for a guy like GSP. He will want to beat Serra by one of his own strengths. He will either kick Serra’s ass standing, or he will submit him.

Get over it jdawg, GSP kicked everybodies ass, except for Serra and he will do that on April 19. Where have you been? The WW division has been the most stacked div. for years and GSP ran through it.You say who has he beat, well after he disposses of Serra and Fitch he will have cleaned the most stacked div. That sounds like quite a feat to me and I’m sure to every other NON GSP HATER. Your a hater, simple as that. You can’t see GSP’s talent through your hatred. I’ll admit there are some fighters I dislike, but I would never deny their talent just because I don’t like them. It’s really going to eat you up inside when GSP runs through Serra unless you stop hating.
Serra’s over there knocking out his black belt training partners while GSP is getting bruised up by his. hahahalol.
Well it’s better to base your arguments on FACTS rather than just assuming Serra will submit someone as good as GSP. Could it happen? yes. Is it likely to happen based on Serra’s submission victory% (or should I say LACK of submission victories)? HELL NO.

Oh I love how Serra wasn’t even gracious enough to stand up for the interview. The guy has no class whatsoever
Nope..but ppl tend to get classy after gsp embarasses them..(hughes, koschech)
That is a really good point about the look in GSP’s eyes. It is something that is never mentioned, but I believe is true. When he was walking out for the Koscheck fight I wished I had bet on that fight because you could tell he was going to win based soley on his walk to the ring. Lets hope he has that same look on April 19th.
Rich also had the most obvious look of fear during the fight as well. When I went to the Chuck/Rampage fight the look Rampage had on the big screen was pretty scary and I had a bad feeling my boy Chuck was going to lose.
I talked to my brother about the GSP/Koscheck fight. He bet his buddy GSP would win and the guy actually paid him before the fight started because of that killer look in his eyes.

What happened… happened matt Serra beat GSP end of conversation
GSP to me is one of thy most dominate well rounded fighters in the UFC
Matt Serra was given a chance at the title and with every one saying no chance in hell, he owns it know
UFC 83, is a different fight to say Serra is going to get destroyed is ignorant to say GSP is going to get destroyed is ignorant as well.
I see the fight blowing people away..? why
I think matt Serra’s ground game in jujitsu is very under estimated as well with his strength in strikes
GSP overall determination should frighten people, he is very hard on him self and enjoys what he dose more than any fighter, his athleticism should not be looked past as unusable factor ether. His weakness and his mistake is in thinking that he was not ready in the first fight, GSP is a fighter and lost that’s it
I tend to agree that sera might be a bad match up for St. Pierre. I don’t think he’ll win, but you got to give him credit on the “hard to hit” area. He has great head movement, punches really hard, and comes from weird angles. I just hope it’s a fairly exciting fight

matt sera trying to get all the media exposure he can before he gets killed by gsp and dissapears from the face of the earth?
The more I see of Serra the less and less I like him. I want GSP to destroy him and then Hughes destroy him and Dana tear his contract up.
I can’t wait until Serra wins. I truly believe he was correct in everything he said in this video.
Bad match up style wise? yes for serra.

matt serra wins by ko in the 1st round
i feel i should justify my prediction, Serra is to short to be taken down gsp will takes alot of damage shooting on Serra, the only way Gsp will win this fight, is if he uses his reach, but for some reason he allows that gap to close, i think gsp could totally dominate serra on his feet if he used his reach. But who really knows either way it will be a war i cant wait.
Can’t wait till serra kicks GSP’s A$$ again.
Serra loses to GSP, then takes on Hughes…
i’m not so sure about the worse match up but he sure has worse accent than gsp.

I have GSP as a favorite for this one. Yeah, he could lose but that’s the game isn’t it? For Serra to have the fan base that GSP has, he’ll have to beat many other top contestants, not just GSP. Oh, but he specializes in fighting GSP and throwing words at Matt H.
GSP – by TKO 1st round.

Serra DEFINITELY said, “keep your car running” at the end of that tool of an interviewer’s rant.

He has fought some pretty good fighters and has never been Dominated, so to just act like this is a gimmie fight, is very naive. Right, Hughes can be a prick just like Matt Serra can. This is anyones fight as much as I would like it to be one sided in favor of GSP, it still could go either way.

GSP says he learns from his mistakes and he would never take a fight if he was messed up like at 69,so I doubt we will see GSP mope into the cage ever again.
i feel i should justify my prediction, Serra is to short to be taken down gsp will takes alot of damage shooting on Serra, the only way Gsp will win this fight, is if he uses his reach, but for some reason he allows that gap to close, i think gsp could totally dominate serra on his feet if he used his reach. But who really knows either way it will be a war i cant wait.
If there is one thing for certain about GSP,it is that he can take ANYBODY down, including all the LHW (like Evans) he trains with. Not only can he take guys like Hughes,Penn,Sherk an Kos down, he can take them down at will. Against these 4 fighters GSP attempted 12 takedowns and he got 12 takedowns. He can and will take Serra down,if he chooses to.

Where have you been? haha… good comeback but thats not what i meant…lol
