Stevenson Tibau

Joe Stevenson (28-8) will look to get back in the 155-pound title hunt when he takes on Gleison Tibau (15-5) at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMAmania.com learned that the bout was possible late last week and confirmed the match up earlier this morning.

“Daddy” just lost his most recent fight with BJ Penn via rear naked choke for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire” back in January. It was a spirited effort; however, Stevenson suffered a bad cut early in the bout that more or less doomed his chances for success early on in the fight.

He is the season two winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) who has complied an impressive record inside the Octagon (5-2) since the show wrapped in 2005 and he dropped down from welterweight.

Tibau himself had won three straight UFC fights prior to locking horns with Tyson Griffin at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” back in February. His only other loss inside the Octagon was against Nick Diaz at UFC 65: “Bad Intentions” back in November 2006.

Decent fight that will more than likely make the pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast along with the showdown between Patrick Cote and Ricardo Almeida, as well as the main event between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin.

Joe will win by unanimous decision.

**Breaking News**
Dustin Hazlett vs. Josh Burkman in the works for TUF 7 finale.

I would love to see McLovin give the “people’s chump” a beating!

Why? TUF Finale is Free and the fight is garneteed to be aired! If that fight takes place at UFC 86, chances are it wont be televised!

I too want to see Burkman lose, especially if it means Hazelett gets to move up the rankings.

Hey Mania,

Totally unrelated to the thread but have you heard anything regarding a rumor that Pro-Elite has purchased Hardcore Championship Fighting? Here’s a quote from the Keith Crawford in the Sherdog article: “Obviously the UFC is number one, and I believe that Elite XC, Strikeforce and ourselves are going to be number two when we make the announcement as to who has purchased us.”

Lose a title fight and you get matched up with someone no where near the Top 15 of the division? Gleison ain’t bad, he actually looked impressive slugging it out with Griffin, but I thought that Joe Daddy would be fighting a bigger name thatn this in his next fight.

Exactly. McLovin vs Burkman is a fight that I really want to see. Been a Dustin fan for about a year now and I have never like Burkman. I think that McLovin will get a first round submission win in this fight. Kos was smart not to take Dustin down because he would have gotten submitted. However, Burkman is three quarters retarded so he will take Dustin down and get an arm ripped off or more than likely, get triangle choked.

Josh Burkman is a looooong was from fighting on the televised portion of a PPV.

I was thinking the exact same thing that Koschek, new not to test McLovin on the ground. Burkman cant do anything other than take McLovin down which will play right into the hands of McLovin. Lets be hyonest, Burkman has no stand up, he had to resort to BS Capoeira, wild spinning kicks against Swick cuz he had no idea what to do when it was time to strike.

This fight should show how serious Dustin’s skills really are, and I am predicting a 1st round submission by Hazlett!

Why dont they have Stevenson fight Huerta? Wouldnt that be a bigger draw? Also, why havent they given Huerta a shot? Dont you thing he deserved one before Stevenson?

Umm…no. Huerta did not deserve a shot before Stevenson. All Huerta fough in 07 (with the exception of Guida) were rookies. And Guida looks like a rookie about half the time. (Hence his third round brainfart against Roger.)

Burkman “three quarters retarded” is still making me laugh.

Wow, I think that’s the first negative comment I’ve seen about Guida on this site. I think the guy is top notch and a threat to almost anyone at 155lb. He was definitely winning the Huerta fight before he got caught.

I don’t care what Guida’s record is, I’d pay to see that dude fight anytime. I could probably say the same for Huerta. I really like the idea of a Stevenson/Huerta fight. Someone’s going to have to step in when BJ moves back up to 170lbs.

Well that “Nobody” Melvin actually holds a win over Huerta!
To argue that Huerta deserved a shot over Joe stevensone is just senseless! He paid his dues and earned it. As good as huerta is, he has been around for like a year.

Stevenson should win this. I’d like to see him finish it with a sub, but we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. Too bad about the Bj fight, even with the cut, he never stood a chance. It just goes to show how good Bj really is. Hopefully Joe Daddy can get back to his winning ways.

No its not senseless it just means he knows something your ass dont. Which was that Melvin the so called nobody cheated that fight otherwise he wouldve lost 100%for sure. But then again dumb ass people always talk when they dont got their facts straight. Neither Huerta nor Joe deserved to fight for a title especially not joe. Huerta wins his next two its pretty much a for sure he will get a shot at the belt. Possibly even just one win would do it hes very popular good fighter great record I dont see it being long before he gets ashot.

More then likely joe only got a shot vs Pen because Pen vs Sherk=Good match good buys which means if you feed BJ a fighter like joe its a for sure win and you get the fight you want Sherk vs BJ.

i dont mean any disrepect to Gleison but Joe DADDY should be fighting some one better. to go from title match to unranked fighter is a damn shame. maybe a better match would have been the loser of Ken-Flo vs. J-Lau. or even clay guida or tyson griffin. since C.G lost Huerta & T.G lost to the Answer Frankie Edgar.
