“ProElite.com has learned that the EliteXC Welterweight Championship bout between Jake Shields and Drew Fickett has been canceled. The bout was canceled due to an undisclosed injury sustained by Jake Shields. The bout was scheduled to take place on the EliteXC/Strikeforce event airing on Showtime this Saturday March 29th. No word on whether there will be a replacement opponent for Fickett.”
Bad, bad, bad news right here. This was one of three title fights slated for a nice night of mixed martial arts action at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, Calif., on March 29. I thought that Shields would handle Fickett, but the “Master” always seems to come prepared to scrap. Oh well. Stay tuned for more details.

that sux big time!
Bummer.
Wow, just bought my tix an hour ago, this was the fight i was most looking forward to, i’m pissed
that sucks first cyborg now shields, its still a good card but it was a great card.
Ouch! That really sucks! Hopefully Shields’ injury isn’t too severe.
damn, that hurts.
I was looking forward to this fight. Hopefully he has a quick recovery and we see Jake again soon. I’d still like to see Drew square off with someone though…hopefully they keep the fight on the card with a late replacement.
damniiiit
injuries suck! but they are a big part of all sports and cant be helped, escpecially in a non-team sport like mma. one injury can ruin a whole card.

True, it really sucks when they happen so close to the event, because the only replacement that they can find on such short notice will be a bum trying to make a name for himself.
Ryan Jensen replaces Cyborg. Verify it and give me recognition.(Unless it’s already been announced, then I eat my words.)
Knew those bets I made on Shields were too good to be true. No way Fickett would have won. He’s good, but there’s just no way.
Bad news. So close to the event too. Hopefully he can come back, and Fickett will still get a chance to fight someone.
Sorry to get off topic, but how do people feel about Davidson vs. Wisconsin on Friday just curious. Everyone loves a cinderella story in the big Dance…. Can Davidson add wisconsin to their list of upset wins?
will the replacement be fighting for the belt? lol

I can’t wait to watch that game!!!! Stephen Curry is for real. Its crazy that not a single school from the ACC tried recruiting him. If Davidson can beat Georgetown, they can sure beat Wisconsin. Davidson is only a 4 point dog going into the game, and their point guard knows how to distribute the basketball. I didn’t follow much of the Big 10 this year, so I don’t know too much about Wisconsin, but they usually got a bunch of big white boys that can ball. Landry and Bohannon are their stand out players. I will be rooting for Davidson but will not be putting money on the game. North Carolina to beat Washington St at only -400 on the other hand will be getting some action from me. Xavier vs West Virginia should be a great game and the spread is about even. Its a coin flip, but Marrero and Joe Alexander have been playing great. Joe Alexander went from an unknown player on the bench as a freshman to a senior that was athletic, to a Big East star, to a national star, and will soon be going to the NBA. Before the season started, he was not expected to be a draft pick.

Yeah, I cant wager on the davidson game either…but I cant wait to see it. It is crazy how all those coaches overlooked curry and that senior point guard Jason Richards compliments him really well. Wisconsin can play Defense and will be the bigger team. Then again so was Georgetown.
UNC -400? Thats it? Definetly got to lay some loot on that, as well as UCLA…because they are Final 4 bound.

Wisconsin just wears teams down and bores them to death. This is usually the point in the tournament when we stop enjoying the feel-good stories and little guys and start enjoying superior teams. Then again, I’ve missed on about 80 percent of my NCAA bets, so take everything I else I wrote with a grain of salt.
The best Fedor interview that I have ever read. He talks about his brothers incarceration and very interesting things. Its like 10 pages long, and it covers everything. When you guys have the time you really have to read it to get a better understanding and respect for such a humble and amazing champion. here’s the part where he talks about Aleksander…they have a weird relationship:
You mentioned that Aleksander Emelianenko, is the world Sambo champion, and that he is far more talented than you are. Do you exaggerate?
Fedor: Not at all. I’m not a genius athlete, like many people think. My brother has a phenomenal talent. But he lacks in work ethic. That’s why I’m higher in the ratings. My brother keeps going in and out of the top 10.
Do you two spar?
Fedor: No. We live in different cities. I live in Stary Oskol, and travel all over the world. Brother settled down in Petersburg. We rarely see each other.
They say Aleksander was even in prison?
Fedor: It’s true. They gave him five years, but released him before that. Three and a half years.
He was charged with a robbery?
Fedor: There were many episodes. Don’t want to bring up the past.
Is it an accomplishment to lose 3 years and be able to return to the ring?
Fedor: No. In his case it’s far from an accomplishment. Even though 3 and a half years really held back his growth as an athlete. And in the social life Aleksander became different. Prison really made its imprint. His outlook on life has changed, and it seems, not in a good way.
You and him are totally different?
Fedor: Yes. I’m sure those things could not have happened to me. During the time when Aleksander was looking for adventures on his rear end, I killed myself training. I had a goal - to reach something in sport.
If Fedor Emelianenko is very pleasant to speak to, his brother has a scary image. You can’t just come up to him. And even Fedor, who’s related to the man calls him only “Aleksander” In Russian Aleksander is an official name, and you usually wouldn’t call your brother like that. Sasha, or some other nickname is usually used to call someone close.
One time, Emelianenko junior shed the light on his tattoos in an interview, most of which he got as a reminder of places not so far away.
Fedor: Every tattoo has a place - he said - On my right arm I have a Church with 5 bells. Each bell is for a year of incarceration. Stars on the shoulders mean that the man lives according to his own principles. Stars on the knees say “I will never kneel”. Another tattoo, pirate, stands for article 167 of criminal law - robbery. I have many more tattoos on my body: Writing in Latin reads “Luck looks upon the Brave”, and in German “God with us”. Below the elbow - a head, half cat half human skull. It means: A man is a wolf to another man. This phrase is one of my principles. A web on the shoulder. God’s mother on my back, aphorisms on my feet.

Its long but it is a must read for mma fans. Mania, check it out when you get the chance.
Lots of prisoners are unwilling recipients of adventures on their rear end.
what kind of injury could he have possibly sustained this close to the fight? what a fucking bummer

where did you hear that from?
My boss is a good friend of his family’s. He knows I love MMA so he keeps me posted on what’s up with Ryan.

some good stuff. I knew what some of his bro’s tattoos meant from watching “Eastern Promises”
This is sad, sad news. What a downer.
what a croc that was a fight i really wanted to see, so now what will be the replacement bout on the main card

LOL - I REALLY hope that something got lost in translation here, or he is simply referring to his brother’s time in jail.
