I am a huge fan of both Jake and Diaz. But I do not like what Diaz’s management has done with Nick’s career since defeating Gomi. That increased his status as a fighter and he could have gotten a lot bigger fights than KJ Noons and this Korean Kat.

Diaz should have entered the DREAM lightweight grand prix, especially since his contract allows it!

At least Sheilds is fighting someone decent. I never liked Drew Ficket, but he is an ok fighters. Not title shot worthy. Right now EliteXC has like 1 good fighter in every division, but no decent challengers which make the title matches not that interesting. EliteXC really needs to add some depth or its not going to do too much for their champions legitimacy and careers.

I agree John, and as you know, I too am a big Diaz/Shields fan. Nick has really been making me nervous in his fights since the Gomi fight. BetUs is offering odds for several of the fights on the Shamrock/Le card. Of course the main event is there, but so is the Gilbert Melendez fight, the Joey Villasenior fight, and the Diaz and Shield’s fights.

Diaz and Shield’s are both -500 favorites. I know nothing about Jae Suk Lim except that he is 9-1 and finished all of his opponents. I have seen Fickett fight a bunch of times, and he has fought MANY good opponents over the years. Over the past 4 years, his losses came to Karo, Burkman and Nick Diaz. In those same 4 years, he has defeated many unkown fighters, as well as Kurt Pellegrino, Kos, Josh Neer, Kenny Florian, Carlo Prater and Dennis Hallman.

Ficket and the tooth pick are both plus 350. Nick make me too nervous and he is coming off of a loss to freaking KJ Noons, so no action on that one. However, I truely believe that Jake Shields is too much for Fickett to handle. Although, Fickett pulling the upset is completely out of the realm of possiblity. Does anyone remember what the odds were for Shields/Pyle?

Yeah, I also saw the odds, and I have to agree that the odds make Sheilds the only fighter worth wagering $ on. The problem with EliteXC is that all the fights are 1 sided, so we are never going to get any decent odds on any fights. If I bet on anything at this event it will be on Sheilds, but I may leave the whole event alone, maybe sum chump change on Cung Lay as well.

Diaz in the DREAM GP would have really spiced things up. I totally agree that his managing staff should be doing a better job after the Gomi win, he should have went on to fight more of the best.

Not that it really matters but the Gomi fight was ruled a NC bcuz he was high or had been high a few hrs prior to the fight which some would argue gave him an edge. I dont do drugs and havent comfirmed it with anybody that does but if marijane numbs out some of the pain and your a frequent user how the Diaz bros tend to say I think it may be an advantage, I could be wrong though…

I really dont think he was high during fight day because that would do nothing but hinder his performance. I think he may have smoked during the months or weeks leading up to the fight. Nick is a world class fighter and he is not stupid enough to be high during a fight. I read a article that said Nick smoked during training because it helps him relax.

I really don’t see how it would enhance anything for a fight. I’ve never gone numb, and if you do you would have to smoke so much you wouldn’t be in any kind of mood to fight let alone pick apart Gomi.

like I said im not sure just kida curious, although it didnt seem to me he was picking him apart, Diaz wasnt sharp with his boxing, it was more like Gomi was gassed out of his mind and ive watched that fight and cant figure it out, did Gomi not train his cardio at all for this fight or wtf, but he was gassed like right after they tapped gloves.

I just blazed, and I feel many things, but Numb is not one of them!

I bet if Gomi Kicks me in the face it will feel just the same as when I am not LIT!

ruling that fight a no contest was ridculous. marijuanna stays in your system longer than most substances. so it could have been days or weeks since Diaz last smoked anything.

IMO smoking weed doesnt give a fighter any advantage what so ever. when i got punched in the face, weed didnt make it less painful.

i sure hope he dorsnt smoke any weed in the weeks coming up to the fight. it would be a damn shame if he ended up with another NC on his record. hoping for a Duiz win by sub.

Really hope Diaz wins this fight. He should. He’s very inconsistent with his fighting, hopefully he can get on a winning track and stay on it.

he tested positive for pot, but all that proves is that he smoked sometime within the last month before his fight.. it takes anywhere from a week to 6 weeks to clear out of your system depending on physical activity, metabolism, and just plain genetics. exercise will actually increase the time it takes to be clear of your system.

I think Renzo Gracie is by far the best place to learn BJJ for MMA. What gyms are the best place to learn other disciplines?

Wrestling - Team Quest (Lindland, Hendo, Soko)
Muay Thai - before: Chute Boxe (Shogun, Wandy), now: Mark DellaGrotte,… Thailand? lol
Boxing - Juanito Ibarra’s Big Bear Camp (Rampage, Kongo, Barnett, Vera)
