Check out the 10-second EliteXC commercial that aired on CBS last night during the NCAA tournament for the debut of “Saturday Night Fights” on May 31 below. Kimbo Slice is the centerpiece of the bit, which mentions the word “champion” in the teaser.
Is it possible that he’ll lock horns with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on fight night for the EliteXC heavyweight championship or is it just ambiguous advertising?
I tend to think it’s the latter because Silva is dominant on the ground and could more than likely submit Slice if he can take the fight to the mat. And a Slice loss in his network television debut would be a potential disaster for ratings down the road — Kimbo is their most marketable asset right now.
Time will tell.

I have flushed things down the toilet that I have held in higher esteem than I do Gary Shaw.
I can’t see shi%$
I am looking forward to Kimbo’s next fight..I think Silva is a perfect opponant right now..or give him Ricco, just dont give him a complete no one…MMa fans want to see what he is made of…Having him fight Bo “No Cantfight” and Tank only show me what his youtube videos show.(that he can strike)..
So what I am saying is that I think Kimbo has alot of potential, and I take his move from street-fighter to MMa especially serious because he is training with Bass…
But we as fans wont know how legit Kimbo is until he fights some REAL MMa fighters and not big dudes from the boatyard…
you arent the best till u beat the champion in the ufc and i bet he cant take out the top 5 and i think lesnar would smoke him 1:00n the 1st round ground n pound
Why am I not getting videos on MMA?
I hear that his opponent might be Ken Shamrock!
I hear that his opponent might be Ken Shamrock!
please no, anyone but Ken.. I don’t want to see another dive
its a sad day for an organization when ur “centerpiece” is kimbo slice! i think kimbo should stick with youtube, cause no one is going to watch eliteXC!!
Some of you guys are really harsh with Kimbo, at least he is embracing the sport, and is attempting to learn the sport, instead of just being that back yard brawler. Kimbo has not talked smack, he has not made the company look bad, and he is become a Mixed Martial Artist.. Its not like he does not care, he is in the gym 5 days a week, working extremely hard with Bas, I mean Kimbo means business and he is trying to become that complete MMA Star..
I hear that his opponent might be Ken Shamrock!
Thats 3-0 for Kimbo.
That would make $$ cents..Ken Shamrock is well known name in and out of the MMA community..and he’ll get Ko’d by Kimbo and help his statis as well as XC’s.

kimbo is a beast and I’ll be watching.
Kimbo has a decent sprawl, it will take a solid throw or trip from the clinch to take him down I think. From there, he doesn’t know much except what he’s learned from Bas Rutten over the course of his training; I don’t imagine it amounts to much.
Personally, I think he’ll eventually get KO’d by somebody, it just might be a while.
I’m really hoping Shamrock isn’t going to be Kimbo’s next opponent. He is getting KTFO’d at light heavyweight, how the hell is he going to survive against heavyweights? Shamrock’s name doesn’t carry a whole lot of weight in the MMA world anymore, other than someone who can get beat down over and over.

I totally agree with you Mr.NC-17.
The fighters who are keeping XC a float are
Kimbo Slice
Jake Shields
Nick Diaz
Frank Shamrock
Gilbert Melendez
Big Foot

i will be sooooo pumped if kimbo fights Bigfoot, and if so “FOR FREE”……I really think kimbo could pull the win from Silva….not saying he would destroy him but i really belive he would beat him…..Kimbo’s moving up in the world, as long as he can keep his temper under control he would win!!!

I am not sure how accurate this rumor is, but Ken vs. Kimbo is the most intruiging match up I have heard so far, out of Kimbo’s possible opponents. For the non mma fans who will watch the event, they might be familiar with Shamrocks name, so it could help sell this fight.
I actually hope that this is true. Fighting Ken is definetly a better test than fighting Ray mercer, thats for sure
Also, even if Kimbo were too lose….people would stay tuned because you KNOW his next fight would be a washed up bum….and he would RIPP HIS FACE OFF….lol

I don’t know if that Ray Mercer fight even counts. It was horrible.
I do not believe this Antonio Silva/Kimbo rumor floating around this thread. There is no way Kimbo would fight a calibor of fighter that Big Foot is.

ken is still a big name
cold easily sell ken vs kimbo
ken is probably still a bigger draw than antonio silva
would be a good fight for kimbo
elite xc/ bas rutten appear to realise that kimbo needs a bit of time to work on submissions etc before going up against a top level heavyweight
but in the meantime there is nothing wrong with giving him experience in the ring and building him a highlight reel of finishes in the process and earning him $$$ whilst he is improving/transitioning into a true mma fighter
tank and ken shamrock are both mma legends
love them or hate them both will come and put on a show
mma does seem to have evolved past ken
id say this is the big problem for him
even more so than his age
but against a guy with limited knowledge of submissions
who it is currently fair to compare to a modern day and improved tank
ken does still stand a chance
kimbo beating ken would be huge for elite xc on primetime tv
ken is well known to wwe fans who arent yet into mma
id say it would have the potential to make kimbo more famous than his street fighting courear has and could catupult him into a superstar
I hear that his opponent might be Ken Shamrock!
yeah at that last rage cage show they were throwing Ken’s name out there and also “the collossus” that big glass jawed brit that “went down faster than a pint of guiness”
Shaw has said that Dana White was a fool for putting Lesner against Mir because you protect your most marketable fighters. You really think he’s going to expose Kimbo for the fraud he is now? Kimbo is the most popular mma fighter in America. Shaw will protect him like no fighter has ever been protected before because his whole organization rides on him. Expect a Kimbo vs warpath or Kimbo vs shamrock fight. He won’t fight for the championship until next year.

John are you serious???? Did you watch the latest ‘Cage Rage’??? Absolutely disgusting in my book he (Ken) got hit with a half punch and took a dive, he is now a circus act as far as I am concerned. Which will also make Kimbo a circus act if he takes that fight. I want to see what Kimbo has in the tank not fighting hasbeens all the time. First there was Ray Mercer, then Bo, then Tank please give him someone who is not over the hill to fight. I like the guy because he is taking it seriously so give him someone serious to fight!
It won’t matter if he loses one fight early on in his career, you learn more from a loss than a win anyway. I am worried that is going to become like boxing whereby the best fighters avoid each other all the time to keep their records looking good. No one wins when its like that.
GIVE KIMBO SOMEONE DECENT TO FIGHT, I WANT TO SEE WHAT HE HAS GOT.
Ken SHamrock vs. Tank Abott
the loser of this fight should never be able to fight again. Its funny that despite how pathetic this fight would be it would probably cost about half a million dollars just to pay the fighters.

Say what you will about Dana, but at least he actually cares about MMA. Has Gary Shaw even attempted to further expand and legitimize the sport in states that dont sanction MMA? Is he dumping money into expanding into other countries or is he just buying organizations that are already in place and then riding Zuffas coattails putting on shows in areas where its already sanctioned?
Even Mark Cuban seems to have some love for the sport as well, Gary Shaw is just a scumbag whos only in it for the money because he watched the rise of the UFC.
I hope someone can answer this.
Do you think Ken would really want to go on national tv vs a man who is stand-up monster and has everyone rooting against him ?
And ken was just knock out by Buuzzz Berry by a JAB! I hope ken wont do this to himself, theres no way ken can think he can win.
I say have kimbo fight buzz berry, a little bit better of a fight but still kimbo will dominate him.

Nuts Ken isnt the ideal opponent, thats obvious. But EliteXC doesnt have anyone decent to match him up with. Thats the sad reality. If you dont match him up against Ken, they he will fight some other no named Can, that no one has ever heard about, that will just take a dive, like his last opponent.
Its sad to say, but EliteXC doesn’t have anyone else. At least Ken has the ability of taking Kimbo down, where he could put Kimbo in trouble. that way we can see how much he has worked on his ground game. At least Ken would have a chance of catching Kimbo’s foot in one of his world class Ankle locks. Trust me, I am fully aware of how washed up Ken is, but EliteXC has no one else. The only other decent fighters that they have are:
Antonio Silva:
Ricco (Not that he is any good)
Gary Shaw will never match up Kimbo vs. Atonio Silva. Thats a fact. he cant match them up because they are his only 2 decent heavyweights, and 2 of his biggest assets (because they sell events). Shaw will NOT match them up so that one of them looses. Then where does the ElitXC HW division go from there?
Silva vs. Kimbo will not happen anytime before 2009, I can promise you that.
As for Mark Hunt! Keep dreaming! He is booked to fight Semmy Shilt and after that he is under contract to fight in DREAM.
So can anyone think of a better fighter than Ken, that Shaw can get his hands on by may, to match up against Kimbo? Cuz, I cant!

and thats pretty bad
I agree, but the sad reality is there is no one for him to fight in EliteXC. At this point I would be happy to see him fight Brad Imes, or Antoni Hardonk, even Eddie Sanchez. who are all c level fighters, but they would be better then the z level fighters that he has been facing to this point.

good point. these fighters are real mma fighters and kimbo would still have a chance to win. someone said mark hunt, but that would indeed be a carrer killer. hunt is a very well rounded mma fighter, as shown in his fight w/fedor and probably beat kimbo standing up without it having to go to the ground. 2 years down the road maybee this might be a good fight.

Going back to what everyone here has said in the past about true MMA artists verses bangers….I think alot of these comments are contradictory.
I am not a fan nor will ever be a fan of “Street fighter” Kimbo. The guys is a brawler and will always be a brawler.
Someone refers to him having developed a good sprawl….can you earn a blackbelt in that???
To call him a MMA fighter is an insult to all the true MMA fighters.
Kimbo is a ‘good for business’ fighter only. Good for MMA, I doubt it.

He gets a fair chance just like any other fighter starting in MMa….Plus he is training with Bas, and that says alot, on how serious he really is…

What is supposed to make me wake up? No matter how much crap Gary Shaw spews out to keep his name in the headlines, the fact still remains that he hasn’t done a damn thing for the sport as a whole. Part of the reason the sport has grown the way it has is due to all the efforts that Zuffa has put forth to get MMA sanctioned in more states, which they still continue to do. Yes, that means the UFC can put on shows in more places and make more money, but doesn’t it also mean that they can bring shows to more fans and at the same time open the door for scumbags like Shaw to have shows there as well? As for how the organizations treat their fighters, why dont you ask Gary Turner how respectful Gary Shaw is to fighters under EliteXC? But you may be right, I’m sure that a guy who used to bash MMA to promote boxing cares more for the sport than Dana & the Fertitta bros., who have never said anything to bash boxing or MMA. But you’ll probably accept anything that fat piece of garbage has to say as fact without ever actually having any evidence to back it up…

But you’ll probably accept anything that fat piece of garbage has to say as fact without ever actually having any evidence to back it up…
Sorry B, I wasn’t defending Shaw.
I was merely pointing out that Dana loves MMA as much as Shaw does which is zero love.
Dana loves $$$$$$$$$ only. Thankfully for us, in his quest for $$$$$$$$ he is bringing MMA to the massive.

Thats 3-0 for Kimbo.
That would make $$ cents..Ken Shamrock is well known name in and out of the MMA community..and he’ll get Ko’d by Kimbo and help his statis as well as XC’s.
Actually John, as sad as it is (and I don’t mean your sad) I think you are right, I don’t think they have anybody which is why it will become a freakshow circus, unfortunately. If they are not careful they will burn themselves out.

Mr. NC-17. I agree, he has respected the sport, he has been humble, and he is working hard to become a true mma fighter, what the hell more do u guys want?
I’ll second that.Kimbo has been working his azz off to improve all the way around to become a complete mms fighter.he is human and wont be a completed fighter over night.
I do not believe this Antonio Silva/Kimbo rumor floating around this thread. There is no way Kimbo would fight a calibor of fighter that Big Foot is.
i dont know on that one VM. a fat over weight drug addict (Ricco) took him the distance.
I want to see Kimbo vs Lesnar. Would that be a freakin HUGE ppv or what. It probably wouldnt last more than one round. I hope that Lesnar gets a striker next as it would be interesting to see if he can withstand a punch. Then we would know if he has the stuff.
It would also be interesting to see kimbo fight a wrestler but i agree with the guys who r sayin that shaw will feed him more cans.
I believe kimbo would ko lesnar as he has alot of experience in real fights where people r swingin. I know brock is a wrestler but no one is punchin ur face there.
I think Silva is still too much for Kimbo, not that I’d like to see this fight.
Please put him against “normal” mma fighter, no more freakshows.
If it is against Ken, it shouldn’t be the main event.
Ricco would be great.
Anyway, nothing against Kimbo, he’s got the right attitude to go far. Interested to see what he has on the ground thou.
Cung Le FTW!

Good for MMA, I doubt it.
are you a fan of chuck? do you think he’s good for mma? to me, him and kimbo are essentially the same
No, I don’t like Chuck…….although I used to. Fighters like chuck are being passed by. They are not evolving enough and are starting to be left behind by the true talent.
I have to admit, he does have potential…He is training with Bas Rutten…..By no means do I think he is a legit MMa fighter yet, But he defenetly could be a threat if he does learn other aspect of fighting…In MMa you have to start somewhere…I cant just cancel him out because he used to fight street-fights on youtube…
He gets a fair chance just like any other fighter starting in MMa….Plus he is training with Bas, and that says alot, on how serious he really is…
The guy is headlining not just starting.
There are guys that are debuting in the mma mainstream with blackbelts and years of mma experience.
Kimbo was drawing big audiences and attention through the internet. Promoters seen the dollar signs above his head and signed him, thats all it is. Not that he is the next champion.
They think that casual fans will pay good money to see the guy knock heads off. I’d like to see him do that with the likes of Frank Mir.
I just don’t understand the hype.
I really don’t get all of this, the dude looks tough and I wouldn’t want to get into the ring with him. But really who has he beat to be a main event star. If the UFC put Lesnar in the main event in his first or second fight everyone would think it was bull he doesn’t deserve that shot until he proves himself. The same goes for this guy really he beat up an old long past his prime Tank Abbot. What could this guy do in there with a Randy Couture or a Fedor nothing but get beat.
I wish the guy luck and maybe in time he will be a fighter in the elite and could be considered a top ten guy but until that day I really don’t see the need for all the hype.
Prove yourself Kimbo and then I can get excited.
Kimbo has shown me nothing. His street fights are ridiculous at best. If he is so powerful why can he not knock out any of these bums? Kimbo, fight tank when hes 10 years younger, (your age) he would have knocked your head off. Kimbo is a decent street fighter. Enter a toughman contest, you’ll never survive in ultimate fighting.
I do not believe this Antonio Silva/Kimbo rumor floating around this thread. There is no way Kimbo would fight a calibor of fighter that Big Foot is.
you’re an idiot
I don’t care what other people say but, Kimbo is the only one kicking ass right now so shut up and bring somebody that can handle Kimbo. The UFC does not have anybody that can handle this man(Kimbo)so let’s wait until maybe somebody out there in the boondocks like when Kimbo was discovered can come out and try to take himout but, i really doubt it.
Kimbo Slice is a phenomenal striker. He is new in the MMA world, which means new skill sets must be learned. I don’t understand bashing him. He is new. I think they messed up putting Lesnar against Mir. They kinda threw him to the wolves really. Straight from new guy to “hey fight one of the greatest fighters in the world”. I can’t wait to see lesnar fight again. And Kimbo fighting again is equally as exciting. Give the guys a break, they are doin more than any of us are sittin on our asses at home talkin about this.
