Urijah Faber on fights with Jens Pulver, Miguel Torres, Kid Yamamoto and rematch with Tyson Griffin (Audio)
By: MMAmania
Props: Peptalk (Faber comes in around the 62-minute mark.)
These are some extremely intriguing possible match ups for those who think that WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber will be opponent-less if he takes out Jens Pulver on June 1.
Faber admits that he can compete at 135 pounds, making a fight with WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres — one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world — a very real possibility sometime in the future.
Now that’s a fight.

This is a P4P #1 fighter.
I’d rank him 5th.
1. fedor
2. bj
3. anderson siva
4. gsp
5. urijah
and that’s higher than most would rank him.
Please, Faber has only ever had ONE fight with a top ten guy.
Why on earth would you put him on any p4p list.
Then “most” need to go watch a few fights.
he better not overlook jens. hes undefeated at 145 and i think even though b.j. smashed him, he’s still got something left in the tank. with that said i still see faber winning by ud. the griffin rematch is the fight out of these that i would like to see most. does anyone know where i can watch griffin/faber? believe me ive tried everwhere , so dont tell me a site unless you know for sure. thanks. ive heard its a clasic.
it’s on mmascraps.com under the tyson griffin link on the right side. long intro in the video.
I should mention it might not be the entire fight. they may just have highlights now…
only problem with Urijah’s game right now is the number of fights because the more you fight the more losses you take.
I agree this one is often overlooked in the pound for pound debate. Eventually someone is gonna catch him or he won’t have the fire one night….but Faber for sure at his weight will always take the rematch.

oh probably because, like frank mir has stated multiple times, Faber really doesn’t have any holes in his game. just like the other fighters listed.
he better not overlook jens. hes undefeated at 145 and i think even though b.j. smashed him, he’s still got something left in the tank. with that said i still see faber winning by ud. the griffin rematch is the fight out of these that i would like to see most. does anyone know where i can watch griffin/faber? believe me ive tried everwhere , so dont tell me a site unless you know for sure. thanks. ive heard its a clasic.
you need to watch this fight man, it’s a good one, and Griffin wrecked Faber
Faber in my mind should definitely be concidered on at least the top 10 pound for pound best fighters. Im not going to make up a list of my guys because that is kinda cliche but I would definitely put Uriah in there.
Jens Pulver is going to be a great fight for him and a real good test but with that said I would love to see him win then drop down to 135 and fight Miguel Torres cause that would be absoultely insane. After that fight win or lose I would really love to see him put on a few lbs of muscle and come to the UFC and fight at 155 see a rematch with Griffin which he said himself he would love to do
To me Tyson Griffin vs Uriah Faber 2 would be pretty high on my list of dream fights. And then Imagine all the match ups for him at lightweight!
And now with his training with BJ man this guy is going to be like GSP the only way he can loose is if hes not there mentally, I think he could improve his boxing skills up in Hilo and his groundgame add his crazy speed and relentless onsaulght YEP I would agree to put him in the P4P best fighters myb not 5 but potentially could be top 5
Now a fight with Kid Yamamoto would be excellent. A clash of two extremely well rounded featherweights. I would pay top dollar for that fight.

thanks.
a fight at 135 wuold be crazy for Uriah, he would be huge for the div. IMO he would be to strong for miguel, even tho miguel has a good ground game. Uriah by sub.
as for a rematch against tyson that would be awesome but it would have to be at 155 because griffin probably cant make 145
then he could definitly be considered one of the top PfP.
135? holy shit this guy would be effin insane down there. im pullin for jenz but uriah is def one of my favorits

I don’t think that Jens can hang 5 rounds with the California Kid, no way. Yes, Jens has gone 5 rounds before, but he is also starting to get up there in age a little bit and Urijah Faber is in his prime and pushes a relentless pace in every one of his fights. It’s going to take someone to drop down from the Top 10 of the 155 division or someone to come over from Japan to defeat Urijah at 145. Jens was not Top 10 LW before going to the WEC.
As far as lb for lb, I say he is undoubtedly Top 10, I actually think Top 5. Like #5.

I still dont understand how a man can weight 135 lbs. You have to be like 5′3 to weight 135 lbs and still be muscular.
I want to see Urijah vs. Kid Yammamoto most of all!
Faber Rocks! Take out Jens and Torres, capture another belt, and move up to the UFC and take out Griffin!!! SacTown!!!!!!!!

I agree 1-4(even though i think a non-depressed Fihlo is up there as well). however, I think Urijah would get smoked against yamamoto. I think he would even have trouble with genki sudo or Josh thomson. I mean Faber has beaten some decent guys, but there is a real lack of quality in the WEC.

when did miguel torres become a top pound for pound fighter???? still dont get that one

VM, Jens has that freaking crazy ass knockout power if he works his cardio alot for this fight all he needs is one punch even in the 5th round, although like i said earlier I dont see Urijah lossing unless he is in a wrong mind set Jens is one tough mofo but im sure BJ is making a great gameplan for him. I cant wait to watch these 2 fight
Faber by “atomic ass drop”
when did miguel torres become a top pound for pound fighter???? still dont get that one
Miguel Torres — 23-1, 20 stoppage victories. Only loss in 2003, avenged in 2005. And anyone who saw the BJJ clinic he put on Chase Beebe to win the WEC Bantamweight title would probably agree he is a remarkably dangerous fighter.

Seriously. I weighed 135lbs when I was like 13, lol
I’d really like to see a ready pulver beat butt-chin faber but it’s doubtful, especially considering that faber is training with 2 guys who recently beat Pulver. They’re both great fighters though. I won’t be disappointed in either winning. It would even make an interesting trilogy given a great first match.
Yamamoto Faber is the only fight I wanna see these days.
1. Fedor
2. GSP
3. Anderson S
4. BJ Penn
5. Urijah
we all agree he is 5th what i dont agree is about the first 4/
Please, Faber has only ever had ONE fight with a top ten guy.

Exactly, you can’t fight in an organisation like the WEC and be the top p4p.

What about Rampage? He’s got to be floating up near the top of the p4p.
rampage is nowhere near the top. Smoked by silva(twice) and Rua as well as getting smoked by lindland( i was at the forum the fight. Lindland was CLEARLY robbed). Rampage even being considered top ten makes me want to eat my own soul!
This is a P4P #1 fighter.[/quot
why the hell would u say that hes only fought a top ten guy once and lost. hes no were near BJ,GSP,SILVA,FEDOR LEVEL.
Why is Fedor on the top of all your list. He still hasent fought in the ufc. And Anderson Silva is a stud.

This is the concept of weight divisions, 145lbs in the WEC is the toughest 145lb weight class in US… Urijah can fight at 135 lbs and most likely clean out that division in the WEC as well, that will make him the best at 2 weight classes (but, we need to see him win championship at 135lbs). However, he’s more marketable at 145 lbs. Don’t lump him in the 155 lb UFC weight class, he walks around at 152 lbs and is still to small for that division. Hopefully he’ll get the chance to fight kid yamamoto at 145lbs.
Hence, why many of us feel he is in the top lb for lb fighter rankings.

Yep. I’d agree with what ViolentMike has to say here. I would be very surprised if Jens found a way to win. Urijah is only going to get better too. It’s kind of scary that he can make 135.

That’s a good arguement. I wouldn’t rank him up that high at all either, he hasnt fought top competition in his weight class from what I hear.
Although Urijah training with Penn, id give him the advantage in his next couple fights,he might get closer to top ten in his division now, which sucks cuz I wanna see Pulver win, feel bad for the guy he seems to have lost it.

By the way, I watched Rampage vs. Lindland like 10 times and there is no way that Lindland won that fight. I dont think it was anywhere as close as people made it out to be. Plus he called Lindland smelly afterwards, so he wins just for that!
Consider his excellent record, and the fact that he has faced the who’s who of the best light heavyweights in the world. You can not deny him a spot on the top pound for pound list!

Pride rules? ok, first off “BOB”, i think we can all agree that in his last 4 fights in a cage(His WFA fight was in a cage newbies) he has not utilized it in his strategy. Silva beat him like a little bitch both times going toe to toe in the center with knees to a standing opponent, so your argument for silva just went out the window, and as for rua, rua caught him with a knee that damaged his ribs, that one is still a toss up.
And “JOHN”, Lindland dominated both first and second round. i give props and points for getting out of that rear naked choke, but loses points for nearly getting choked and lindland was clearly more active on the ground. One of the first BIG events in California and I think the mma judges didnt know, and sometimes still dont, how to judge a fight.

I will admit openly that I am new to this wonderful sport. But what I was refering to is how Rampage blamed the RULES, (and the refs) not the ring. I’ve seen Pride fights with Silva, and Rua and in no way diminish there greatness. They didn’t get there reputations by being chumps. I’m just saying after seeing them all in the UFC I would pick Rampage every time.

RAMPAGE deserves cosideration for top 5 PfP. fedor no longer belongs in the top 5. Anderson Silva is clearly deserving of the top spot on this list. the next 4 could be debated for a while. IMO RAMPAGE may even be 2nd. he needs to avenge his losses to W.Silva & Shogun to claim the number 1 PfP status.

“The Anomaly” would you argue that Urijah is the #1 dominate featherweight in the U.S.? … every other fighter that would hold Urijah back as a top #5 lb for lb fighter is in Japan, and you know D. White will never let him fight outside of the WEC. So unless Urijah fights those #1 ranked guys from Japan or moves up to 155lbs UFC (I think that’s to big a weight class for him) I can see your argument, but I actually feel urijah can beat those top #5 ranked fighters… the only fighters I feel can possibly beat him are kid yamamoto, or Gilbert melendez (if he drops back down to 145lbs).

You arent wrong, but back when Rampage lost to wanderlei and Shogun, he was one of the most undertrained fighters in the world. He had no camp, no training partners, he was paying dudes like $50 dollars to spar with him. Since then he joined up with Juanito, one of the top trainers in all of mma, got serious, atcually improved his cardio, and has become one of the best fighters in the world. You cant judge a fighter today, on what happened 3-5 years ago. Also Rampage has a phenominal record, he only has losses to: wanderlei (2), Shogun, Sakuraba (his 1st pride fight) and Eastman his 1st mma fight…. Thats one hell of a resume! He is with out a doubt one of the top fighters in the world. If you dont see it that way, I dont know what u r looking at.
PS: I believe Rampage defeated Lindland!
Hey Anomaly, heres your “CORRECTION”;
Rua has wins over Arona, Little Nog, Gono, and an on-fire Nakamura(who is technically a heavyweight). And take a look at Ruas resume. its a who’s who of fighters. Rampage not so much. Again, Not saying he is a bad fighter at all. i would say he is a top 10 fighter in the world. Pound for pound. I mean, i consider that to be an ALL AROUND fighter in terms of MMA. I dont think anyone here will object when i say his ground game, how do you say.. not sooo guud!
But, i still believe pride rules, no pride rules, a healthy Rua smokes rampage. After Griffin, i hope to see Machida finally get his chance.

U cant be serious! You think Rua’s resume is better than Rampage’s? Nop oint in wasting anymore time responding to this nonsense.
I hope Jens can do it again.
I think Urijah needs to beat a Jens Pulver and maybe even a BJ Penn to make the p4p list. Fedor, Silva and Penn should be the only people anywhere near the top of the P4P list right now

Please, Faber has only ever had ONE fight with a top ten guy.
Why on earth would you put him on any p4p list.
Exactly, you can’t fight in an organisation like the WEC and be the top p4p.
I was going to say this exactly. Just because the UFC does not have this weight class does not mean he is not a top lb for lb fighter. If There was a 145# in the UFC you know he would be there cutting through it. He has crazy game. His stand up, his wrestling, and good bjj.
I really really would have like to see him fight Cub Swanson. I know he lost to Jens Pulver but I think he would be a great match for Faber. He has good hands, an iron chin, and awesome bjj/sick scrambles to counter Faber’s wrestling. I think personaly it would be a good fight…
pulver got this. i think pulvers been in there with tougher guys. all of urijahs opponents were nobodys. jens is the end of faber

I can see your point, Jens has fought with most of the toughest 155 lbs fighters in the world. Faber has only fought the toughest 145 lbs in the U.S. Jens also has rededicated him self to training and learning his ground game.
However, I still think Faber will take him, his game is very complete and he has endless cardio… Jens will have to catch him with a punch or sneaky submission… none of which I think really has much of a chance of happening… luckily we won’t have to wait to find out like a Couture vs Fedor … “thank god” for the lightweights, they are always fighting!

Well here is the thing, I personally don’t think the rules do that much, if a fighter is better, he is better, if he is stronger, he is stronger, no knees to the head on the ground or no knees will make the difference in my opinion, to me its more of which fighter is good enough to not get into that bad position in teh first place, same with elbows, or other rules that vary.
The thing is though you see, the fighters you named are good and all, but still, the two I named are more notalbe than those, Rua’s wins over a ghetto Rampage and Randleman don’t make him the best of the best in my opinion, ive alwasy held him in high regard, think he’ll probably hold a title some day, but as of yet, I think he is getting slighty more then he deserves in terms of respect.
And although it was a good fight and Linland alwasy impresses me, I still think Rampage won that fight, barely, but fair and square non the less.

Word Thorazine, i’ll back that, the LWs is always goin at it, there are not a lot of LW matches every body speculates about cuz they all happen in a timely fashion lucky for us.
uhh, what moron would not have andersilva as the top fighter in the world?
i believe its a pretty unanimous decsion. Let Fedor fight someone people have heard of, that actaully HAS a winning record and MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE condiser him in the top 10.
Fedor is NOT the best fighter in the world. I love how all you people jump on the bandwagon of foreign superstar fighters. Has anyone of you ever seen him fight, other than on a youtube video?
