paul daley
Cage Rage Welterweight Champion Paul “Semtex” Daley (17-6-2) will defend his 170-pound title at Cage Rage 26 on May 10, according to FightNetwork.com.

Heres the words from the man himself:

“I’ll be defending my world title belt on May10 at Cage Rage. No opponent has been confirmed yet.”

Daley recently announced his plans to retire from the sport of mixed martial arts, but agreed to fulfill his contract, which had one fight remaining.

It was believed Daley’s last fight was going to be on the “Shamrock vs. Cung Le” show next weekend in San Jose, Calif. However, it appears now that ProElite wants him to defend his title if it’s going to be his last fight.

It’s still very strange Daley would announce his retirement at such a young age (24) and with such a bright future in the sport.

There are the conspiracy theorists out there who don’t believe Daley is really retiring. It is possible he could just be moving on to greener pastures like another organization such as the UFC or WEC.

Here’s another snip:

“America has the biggest market right now. The fans and promoters treat me well. In Cage Rage, it’s different; egos get in the way. But it’s work, and you don’t always get [along] with your boss all the time.”

Daley certainly has the talent to compete in the UFC and perhaps those are indeed his future plans — only time will tell.

He did say he like the market in America, and with UFC hosting all these shows in England, he would still have the opportunity to fight at home as well.

Either way, if he’s retiring or just moving on, we know we’ll get to see him fight at least one more time at Cage Rage 26. That will have to do for now … I guess.

We’ll let you know as soon as his opponent is announced.

Too bad he’s a Welterweight, the UFC WW division is stacked. WEC looks like they could use him, though.

I agree, WEC then create a nice name for yourself like Faber did then UFC. I wish Faber would come up to LTWT and go to the UFC, im sure he will but i want to see him fight wherever he’s at. But whats so stacked about the WW division in the UFC, GSP fans think its so void of comp that after Serra (If he gets past Serra, which im sure he will) he should maybe fight Fitch and then move up to 185lbs?

GSP
BJ Penn (eventually)
J. Fitch
Karo P.
Hughes (If hes still fighting)
Josh Kos
Diego S.
?

And theres no BJ yet, Hughes might be done and GSP might move up . . . Thats the 3 best fighters on that list, Not very stacked to me. I might be missing dudes though, let me know.

Oh LOL, and the current division title holder is Matt “The Tight Shirt Weara” Serra, i think it should take any good fighters it can get, maybe even carlos condit the WEC WW champ(wouldnt stand a chance against BJ, Gsp, Hughes, Karo or Fitch) But it would make the division deeper. What you think?

Alves

Davis
Gono
Chonan
Burkman
Swick

and a bunch of prospects like Sotiropoulos, Arroyo, Speers, Saunders, Kelly, etc

gsp and hughes are dominant and its questionable whether BJ should be considered as hes at 155

its like considering anderson silva moving down

in most sports when you say a team is stacked with players it usually means too many mediocre players lack of real stars and therefore hard to pick a team

if hughes retires and gsp moves up i fear this will be the case at 170

lack of a dominant fighter wont necessarily be a bad thing

everyone overlooks serra but he won TUF and KO GSP hes on a long win streak including the 3 TUF fights

fitch didnt look great in his last fight but he is on a long win streak so would have to be considered #1 contender and has to get winner of gsp/serra

if gsp wins i think fitch will definitely get a title shot
but if serra wins then it may just be hughes who gets the nod

koscheck seems to be improving a lot and has a lot of potential to be the champ in the not too distant future if fitch hasnt got the belt or if theyd fight each other

karo and diego dont deserve to be anywhere near the title
they both need to beat a top contender like KOS or fitch or hughes or GSP before getting a sniff

in short if daley came to ufc he may stand a chance of getting a title shot at some pointand may well become a big star
fans like guys who finish fights diego decisions truly are a nightmare :)

Good assesment but i think we can all agree that Penn is not going to finish his career as a 155er. And i take shots at Serra and GSP though i like them both for sure but your points about Serra were goo bro, i forgot about the win streak from the TUF show. And he has taken Penn to a decision (lost but still)(And hes cornered against BJ countless times) Serra aint looking half bad all of the sudden, but GSP’s always looking good!

I disagree! I dont care how stacked the welterweight division is in the UFC, this kid is solid. He reminds me of a young, welterweight, anderson Silva. If he comes to the UFC, he could have the best muy tai in the division along with tiago alves (who I am a big fan of). This kid is onlt 24 years old, and he has had some dominant wins under his belt. One of my favorite Daley fights was on the same cage rage card with Silva vs. Fryklund (and the infamous elbow heard across the world). He faced dave Stassor on that card, and put on a beautiful display of Muy Tai.

PhilQNY: I also heard that. In addition I here that Don King was trying to get in the mix with that fight. They should just have a tag team match: Anderson Silva and Dana White vs. Roy Jones and Don King! Make History!!!!

Taigo Alves is a hell of a fighter. I like this AKA kid a lot. His muy Tai is really Nasty, and has some of the best leg kicks in the UFC.

Lytle is very exciting, gate keeper type. Lytle has become veryy well rounded and he is tough, and has phenominal hands.

Marcus Davis is one of the most improved fighters to come out of TUF. Its amazing how much he has evolved as a fighter, given is relitevely old age. He is going to tag swick up.

Akahiro Gono: is a very tough Kat. he has got some serious skills and he has fought the best in the world and he wont be intimidated by any UFC welterweights. For those of you not familiar with this man, check out some film on him, he is a great fighter.

Chonan: I put in the same category as Gono, but if they fought each other I would give the advantage to Gono. None the less, he is a great addition to the UFC

Swick/Burkman: I am not a fan of either fighter!

Ben Saunders, the tough, lanky kid who giggles like a school girl when fighting, will be fightig on the UFC 86 card, in July, no opponent scheduled as of now.

Also the TUF Finale on June 21, features a mian event between Diego Sanchez vs. Luigi Fioravanti. Should be an exciting fight!

That would be an awesome match up, but Daley is very exciting, and he may be a bigger draw in England than Bisping. With that said, the WEC dosnt have any events in England, so Daley would be used in the UFC, to help sell out the events that take place in England.

Matt “The Tight Shirt Weara” Serra??? The dude like 5 foot 2 and is jacked - his arms are huge. So of course a T-shirt is going to look tight on him. What do you expect him to do, buy a 3XL so that the shirt hangs down past his knees?

I’m still keeping my figers crossed that this “retirement” is a way for him to get out of EliteXC and CageRage and fight in the UFC.

WHAT?!!!!???!!??! Luigi Fioravanti in a Main Event?? Get the hell out of here! That dude does not deserve to be in a main event of a TUF finale or UFN or even televised on a PPV. That matchup is a disgrace. Luigi is not a well rounded fighter and is known for his standup. Diego is just going to take him down to the ground and pound him out. Luigi looked good against a waaaaay past his prime Dave Menne and then Luigi lost to Fitch, lost to Forrest PETZ and is now coming off of a decision win against Luke Cummo on the undercard of the last PPV. Is that what it takes to headline a TUF Finale? Last season’s headliner was Roger Huerta vs Clay Guida. Now THAT was a fight.

That would never happen. If Daley signs with Zuffa he will be fighting in the UFC. He is a huge draw in England, which is a market that the UFC has been struggling in. Daley would fight in the UFC and help them draw some more business in England!
