Lyoto Machida

“… if you’re a fighter, you want to fight the best and it doesn’t make a difference how big their name is or whatever. Lyoto is undefeated and he just beat Sokoudjou so it’s really hard to say what he meant by that. Sometimes, Tito might have some ulterior motives in what he says, but I think Tito is trying his best to get the fight that’s best for him to finish up his contract. Tito needs to finish up his contract with a win…. I think this is Lyoto’s bigger profile fights and those who don’t know much about Lyoto, after May 24th, they’ll know about him…. I don’t really think there’s an area where Tito Ortiz is better than Lyoto. I look at it on paper and Lyoto can out strike him, Lyoto is better than him on the ground. I mean, Tito is bigger, but I don’t necessarily think he’s stronger, but he’s bigger. That’s the only thing he really has and I can even say he’s a better wrestler, but we’ll have to wait and see. I know Tito will come prepared and I know Lyoto will be prepared so it has all of the ingredients of being a great fight.”

– Ed Soares — the manager for Lyoto Machida — talks to FightHype.com about his client’s upcoming fight with Tito Ortiz at UFC 84: “Ill Will” on May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and much more.

I think Tito will surprise ppl and try to bang with Machida and as soon as Lyoto gets comfortable Tito will get the takedown farely easy and do what the old Tito used to do and destroy Machida and as soon as the ref pulls him off he will get up and flick off Dana with both hands, OMG even If I were a Machida fan I would love to see Tito do that imagine the look on Danas face and imagine the crowd will go fucking insane…

Yes hope Tito wins for multiple reasons. Like Lyoto and think he is very good but even though tito is not in his top game anymore I think he will be tougher than people give him credit for. If he is prepared. Machida is better standing, but on the ground??? Tito still has good wrestling and some boring yet extremely effective GnP! Will take Tito by U-decision.

I think one thing Tito has on Machida is heart, or at least he used to. Not too many of Tito’s fights went to decisions, but most of Machidas have. I think Tito Ortiz has more of a killer instinct then Machida, and that is always a factor. Hopefully we will se the Tito Ortiz that defended his belt five times and not the Tito Ortiz that had a draw against a guy named “Sugar.”

Machida will win no question! His style is so hard to figure out and he keeps getting better. Tito won’t be able to shoot on him and if he does take him down Machida is great there. It has been proven that he can overcome a strength disadvantage aswell, shown in his wins over Rich Franklin and Sokoudjou. I can’t picture a way Tito wins.

I think people who are convinced Machida will lose to Tito are dellusional. Granted, this is indeed MMA and truly anything can happen, but Tito is not only washed up, but also not even interested in fighting anymore. Lyoto, on the other hand, is just reaching his prime, and I would put all my money on him on this fight, as this is the one “certain” bet on this event, just as I thought about Okami against Tanner last PPV.

Yes, Tito’s wrestling might be better, but I see him getting frustrated on his takedowns, and peppered with shots until his face turns so blue that it matches his girlfriend’s horrible makeup.

I’m not saying it’s going to be a KO or TKO (thought the possibility of Tito plunging for the ref’s help after a good straight left does seem possible), but either an unanimous decision or a RNC are more than likely.

Tito’s got absolutely no chance in this fight, sorry.

Machida really impressed me by beating Sokoudjou, but from what I remember, Sokoudjou seemed slow, not really active, almost to the point of lazy both standing and on the ground as he got picked apart. Honestly, I can’t picture Machida outstriking Tito to the point of KO or TKO. He’s not that explosive. Tito would win 3 of 5 exchanges standing within kicking range. When Machida eats one, GAURENTEE he will go for underhook to slow the pace down. Titos best chance of winning is to get Machida out of his comfort zone and just basicly rush him and keep pressing him. If crazy Tito comes out and lands some shots that rocks Machida by taking a few on the way in, even if he loses, people would probably respect him as a fighter again. But that hasn’t been his nature for a while now so itll probably go to Machida via decision. I’ll be rooting for crazy Tito or laughing at scared p*ssywhipped Tito again. We’ll see.

Well, I seem to recall Mirko saying pretty much the same thing right before admitting he’s not UFC caliber at this point in time and running back to Japan with his tail between his legs. Fighters talk lots of crap, and we all know that, come on.

Tito’s head is, just as it was so nicely put by pete, in the “many business” that he runs. He’s bigger than MMA and certainly bigger than the MMA, at least in his own mind. His head is 100% not in this fight, and him showing disrespect for Machida several times in the past proves this. He’s looking forward to making money outside the UFC, whether by fighting or by selling Punishments shirts, and really couldn’t care less about Machida or this fight.

Sorry, I really don’t see any possibility for Tito winning this, besides a bizzare stoppage a-la Vitor-Randy.

Tito prepared, and healthy = win by TKO. It wasn’t all just talk that got him where he is today. Machida vs. Nakamura was one of the most boring, disappointing fights I’ve seen. And I agree with Kama Kaze about Sokoudjoul, he did not look like the same guy that beat big Nog at all!
Also Tito will more than likely be training like mad. An exciting win on his way out will give him all sorts of leverage when negotiating a contract with another org.

Bob, I am pretty sure that was little Nog Soko beat ;) And Soko looked so awful because that’s the way all of Machida’s opponents look like, he makes them look like amateurs, and I don’t see it being any different this time.

Heck, it’s obvious Dana thinks this fight is an easy obstacle for Machida and will only gain him more fans, nothing in the lines of a true challenge, and I totally agree.

Might be a little biasted, training both in shotokan karate and bjj myself, but hey, some nutgging doesn’t make me a bad person, does it now? :)

Couldn’t agree more. Jardine win=title shot. Jardine loss w/Chuck win means re-match w/Rampage. Jardine & Chuck lose(Chuck lose to Sugar, yeah right) Lyoto gets title shot. Most obvious opponent for Lyoto after he puts the beatdown on Tito is Wandy or (if he ever gets healthy) Shogun.

For Tito to do GnP he will first have to actually get Machida to the ground…and to do that he might smudge his makeup..he has to stay uninjured too to make sure he is ready for his starring role on “Celebrity Mole”..maybe Tito can leak some porno he made with that piece of plastic skank he calls a girlfriend when his relevancy runs out in the next few months after he stops fighting. Talk about old school, every fighter that was once on top of the world is now on his way out of the game; Hughes(Never gonna wear that belt again unless Serra beats GSP again and then fights Hughes like he was supposed to) Lidell (Never gonna see his belt again) Franklin (Never ever ever ever gonna touch his belt again) Horn (Never lived up to his potential and put his energy into training other champions),Randy (Got the Fedor and maybe one more fight in ‘em) Hendo (Isnt on his way out but is starting all over an getting older every day, could still win both belts back imo) Wandi (Should have walked away to preserve his legacy before the Hendo fight and Jardine is gonna make it 4 in a row) Mirco (Lost 2 or 3 in a row to young up and comers and was out of the UFC less than a year after he joined it) Nogs getting older everyday, Sylvia just sucks and wont go away, EVER! It goes on and on, Tito’s just another casualty of age and his own ego/image. IMO, he would be interesting against Jackson but Rampage is a beast now, ask Hendo Yeeeee!

Maybe we can clear up who fought stiffer competition while defending their belts:
Tito defended his belt against:
Yuki Kondo (Submission Neck Crank)
Evan Tanner (Slam)
The King of Rock and Rumble (cut)
Vladimir Matyushenko (unanimous decision)
Ken Shamrock (Corner Stoppage)

Chuck defended his belt against:
Jeremy Horn (verbal submission)
Randy Couture (KO Punches)
Babalu (TKO Strikes)
and everyones favorite bad boy - Tito Ortiz (TKO Strikes)

I think I am going to have to go with Chuck on this one. Tito did beat Wandy for the title but lost it to Randy. Chuck beat Randy for the title and lost it to Rampage.

I am going to break this fight down for al of you really quick and easy:

Machida: is a real fighter, who no one wants to face. I havent heard Liddell’s camp say that they dont want to face to many fighters, and Machida was number 1 on Liddell’s do not fight list. Machida also, has just reached his prime.

Tito: Is an entertainer, not a real fighter. He will make a much better WWE superstar than a UFC figher. Tito is the most 1 dimensional fighter I have ever seen. For a guy that has been involved in mma for so long, it is unexcusable to still be this 1 dimensional. After all these fights, he still cant throw a decent punch. Tito will look like a fool in this fight due to Machida’s world class footwork. Tito will be trying to chase Machida all over the place while Loyoto just Tags him up!

A real fighter (Machida) vs. A entertainer (ortiz), this is a very easy fight to predict and I will be laying a few serious dollars on Machida!

Great call John. As much as I dislike Jacob, I wouldn’t have any problem with Dana resigning him. The problem is that certain huggers on here (and Jacob himself) believe that Tito 2008 is the same as Tito 2001. This is not the case. Jacob wants to be paid like a top-5 or even top-3 fighter, when those days are clearly behind him.
So what will tito be after he beats this top 5 ranked fighter in the world…..ohhhhh what a aminute its ortiz he dont belong in the top five….its all political bullcrap when it comes to him because there are seriouse haters out there and dana white is the top piece of crap that started this hatred and hes the one who flirted with every fans emotions during that bullcrap boxing match saga.

I think if Tito comes in well prepared and muscles machida up against the cage (as he did to old man Shamrock), it could be a very short night once the GNP attack starts.

This has nothing to do with any boxing match. Even if Jacob somehow pulls what would be a massive upset over Machida, he would still barely be on the fringes of the top 10 LHWs and still not be worth the amount of money he is demanding.

I hate Tito and really can’t understand how anyone can like him at all. I think what did it for me was when Liddell was the clearly the number one contender and Tito tried to use the pothetic excuse that he didn’t want to fight Chuck because they were friends. The good news for you ORTIZ!!!!!08…..BABY is that I hate Dana even more than I hate Tito and I would love to see Dana’s face if Tito won. The bad news is This guy Lyoto Machida is a hell of a fighter and I see him outclassing Tito in every aspect of this fight. If Tito is able to lay and pray that is the only way I see him winning this fight.

You see what i mean,NO matter what tito does it will never be goo enough….the boxing match was just an example of danas bullcrap i know this is far from a boxing match but my point was made. Everybody forgives dana for that crap he pulled on US the fans BUT no matter who tito beats no respect will be given but thats ok haters are allowed to dislike who they want. After tito wins some of you haters will jump back on the the ortiz bandwagen its just how people always are.

Yeah same here, it’s like selling your soul to the devil but I am rooting for Tito on this one to.
I don’t know why everyone is so against supporting Tito? He is charismatic, a good guy (TUF3 always going to Iraq) and put the sport on the map.

Added to that he has a top notch record with wins over Belfort, Wandy, Forrest, Tanner and Evans(draw i know but still) etc.

I hope he smashes Machida and climbs back up the rankings. he is a tough fight for anyone in the L/HW division.

I had a dream this week that I was reading the fight results from this fight and Tito won a very uneventful 3 round dec. Its funny it was so real that when I saw the topic today was when I remembered that it hasnt actually happend yet. I am not a big tito fan nor am I a hater but I think that is the way it is going to go down. Weird i know.

You really should actually pay attention to the UFC…Tito is done and over! He is yesterday and Machida is today…Machida will dominate Tito…it most likely will be boring but he will definitely lay the beat down on Tito…All Tito wants to do is be a celebrity…he isn’t focused like he used to be and all the hype has gone to his head

Thanks, but I have had it up to here with this Big headed, blond, baboon! I dont ever want to see him fight again in the UFC. I used to be a big fan of his back in the day, but since fighters started evolving he didnt and he disgraced himself as UFC champion when he refused to give a title shot to the #1 contender at the time, Liddell. How convenient that he only fought Chuck when chuck had the title, and he never had the stones to defend it against Chuck. I dont want him in the UFC, even if he was making $10,000 a fight. he has made a lot more money than he is worth over the years, and I just want him to go away. He is a terrible fighter that just hypes up fights by making them personal and trash talking. As the event gets closer, Jacopb will start talking trash about Machida trying to sell the fight, and I am sick of hearing him talk and not backing it up. I just want him to go away. I dont think he deserves to fight in the UFC. He turned plenty of co main events into snoozefests over the past couple of years, and he got paid nicely for it. A lot of fighters are underpaid, but he isnt one of them. With the way he performs, where does he get off asking for more money! Go away jacob, you are a clown who even stole his nickname from Tank abbot!

I can’t argue with that but Forrest got KTFO by Jardine and Jardine got KTFO by Houston and Houston got GnP by Thiago.
