“I’m more ready than I ever have been in any MMA fight. I’m a lot stronger. I’m a lot faster. It might be scary.”
– Houston Alexander tells MMAWeekly.com to expect a scary good performance against James Irvin at UFC Fight Night 13 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo. “The Nebraskan Assassin” will look to redeem himself after a loss to Thiago Silva, which he attributes to making a mistake.

let’s go Houston! Omaha Nebraska –
I don’t know if James Irvin is well rounded enough of a fighter to take out Houston. Irvin likes to stand and bang, but I wouldn’t recommend that he do that going against Alexander for the sake of him winning, but as far as our viewing pleasure is concerned – I want to see the two of them stand toe to toe and bang it out.
If Irvin can implement some well timed takedowns early in the fight, he could pound Houston out from the top and get the stoppage. Houston has not shown an effective guard, nor the ability to avoid punches while he is on his back.
There will be fireworks!
this will be a very exciting 2 minutes of mma action.
I can honestly vouge for the man. I got to meet him at 82, when he put his arm over my shoulder to take a pic, he was as strong built like a bear. He’s the only fighter I’ve ever actually felt how strong they are like that. I’m a little worried for James Irvin.
CANT WAIT TO SEE THE TERMINTAOR IN ACTION AGAIN!!! Houston walks like a machine!! This fight is definately gonna be a KNOCKOUT!!!
Werdum Vs Vera at UFC 85 just added at ufc.com
Thanks UFC, shaping out to be good card Wednesday night…for free! Way better than the free WEC fights I saw 2 weeks ago.
good luck irvin! knockout city here we come…
Am I the only one that thinks Houston Alexander is the next Phil Baroni?????
gonna be a good fight. irvin needs to take dis fight to the ground or else he’ll get ktfo’ed
Go Sandman!! Roseville, CA!!!!! UTC Rocks!!!! Pound him James!!!
I do recall him saying he had an awesome ground game that no one has had a chance to see, then Thiago Silva happend.
But, I’ll still be rooting on Houston, the guy’s a beast!

I met Huston the day before his fight with Jardine. I knew who he was, but obviously had no idea what he was about to do to Jardine. He basically hit on my wife in the elevator with me standing next to her. I think he knew I was pissed because later that night he came up behind me at a bar and apologized and we talked for a minute. My point is I think he is a classy guy and when we shook hands and I patted his shoulder, the guy felt like he was made of stone. If Irvine tries to bang with him he will get KTFO.
This is going to be a good fight. However, I am going to go with Houston on this one. He’s got more power. Plus, Irvin is still technically married to my friend Veronica. He walked out on her like P***y! He’s been over to my house a few times. Everyone used to call him meathead because the guy has a huge F’in head. He’s done good for himself, and is a good fighter. But personally I think he’s a dick so I hope he losses.

I am happy to hear that this will be the 1st televised fight of the night. Great way to start of a fight night, having Houston and Irving go toe to toe. I hope this becomes a brawl instead of an mma match.
I’m with Volatol.
I think im the only guy that thinks Irvin is going to manhandle him, Irvin has real good standup with knockout power as well. \
I think Houston “we have a ground game problem” Alexander will get KOd
houston will never ever be a factor in the ufc until he gets a ground game,,,thats why james irvin has a 50/50 shot in this fight
Houston has pound for pound the funniest shaped head in mma.
Irvin by rear naked choke.

LOL, followed closely by Tito Ortiz and Antonio Big Foot Silva
I haven’t seen any of James Irvin’s fights, but that won’t stop me from dropping cash on Alexander. UFC brought this guy in to make a highlight reel out of. He’s susceptible to KO, and not really a ground guy. Also, he sufferred a knee injury recently. On fight night my money will be riding on Houston and Manny cuz I think they are the surest bets of the night. Somebody will proably dissect my comment and tell you how good Irvin and Cox is but I’m not hearing any of it.
It’s going to be an entertaining fight. I’m expecting a flash knockout with Alexander getting his hand raised- I think he’s just too strong for Irvin. Looking forward to it however it plays out.
Houston Alexander Via Decaptitation Rd 1 0:21…
Houston has yet to show in any UFC fight that he can stand and strike with someone (without the clinch), and he’s not shown he can either kick well or defend leg kicks. Lots of question marks there. Can he fight if Irvin can navigate the distance?
If it stays at a distance the Sandman has a chance but if it inevitably gets clinched up I do not see him lasting long with Alexander. Either way should be exciting and part of a very good free card!!
This is going to be an exciting match-up. Period.

lol!!!! lets not gas him up
we havent seen enough of houstons ground game to rule it out. we can only say that he got severly out classed by the first guy hes faced with a real world class ground game. those may have actually just been his octagon jitters. so on that note i cant wait to see what happens if this fight does go to the ground. its been a well documented thing that ground guys end up standing and strikers end up on the ground. if it stays standing houston all the way. for that i give alexander 80/20. we’ll see what happens though.
mania why is every comment i post awaitng moderation?????????????
Houston wins this fight. I think thiago taught him a lesson and I don’t see him making the same mistake Twice in a row at least.
The only Irvin fight i saw was when he had that flying knee win at the beginning of the second. It was against Terry Martin i think. Other than that “lucky” KO he didn’t look too impressive. I think Houston will bully him into a corner and KO him.
From his last two unlucky fights, Irvin seems like he has become the type of fighter who does like to stand and trade with the other guy. Houston Alexander just doesn’t seem like he’s the king of guy where that is a smart idea. Houston was manhandling Thiago on thier feet and he destroyed Jardine and Sakara. Irvin did seem like he was giving it to Thiago before he blew out his knee. I still expect Houston to not let irvin get out of the first round.
Houston Alexander stronger? Yeah that is scary
This dude is fucken strong as hell, look for an early KO.
Houston has pound for pound the funniest shaped head in mma.
Funny stuff!
I expect a good fight if Irvin trades with him will be real good, fight can go either way Irvin is a real good striker.
I see irvin pickin his jaw up in the first row
I would like to see Houston VS Kimbo. That would be a brawl!!!! Someone would have to leave there weight class though. Any on agree.
KImbo won’t end up in UFC but Houston vs. Sodoku is a comparable possibility, no?
every time i watch houston fight, i expect to be made correct that hes just a flash in the pan. im still not convinced of his abilities. i almost want this fight to go long so i can see a little more.
I like Irvin but Houston is a bad mo-fo, Irvin got outmucscled big time by Stephan Bonner so imagine what Houston is gonna do to him. Irvin will have to stay away and try to nail Houston right on the chin if he has any shot.
If it stays on the feet which you would expect this baby ain’t gettin out of the 1st. But lets not forget what happened with the kongo v herring fight where two strikers wrestled for 15 min. I hope this one is a brawl and predict houston win 1st round stoppage.

Yeah I met Houston too. He was kind of drunk when I met him and reall annoying so he got to feel how strong I am because I knocked him out cold…lol
LOL at anyone comparing Houston’s ground game to Stephan Bonnar’s. Bonnar has very good BJJ, and trained under Carlson Gracie for years. Houston isn’t close to that level.
People are seriously overrating Alexander, considering he hasn’t shown a diverse skill set to this point. Can he even stand and box with Irvin? KOing Sakara (a guy who has been KOed by 2 other guys who fight at 185) doesn’t mean he can deal with Irvin.

did he save your kitten from a tree and walk your granny across a crowded street as well?
lol these comments…
Houston is a bad ass at striking and can KO at will…but he has NO ground game at all and if Irvin takes him down then its over..I am sure Irvin will try and take him down..he would be dumb to stand and bang with him
I think Houston’s ground game is weak, but he does have SOME ground game. It’s mostly wrestling-based though, not BJJ. I don’t think he’ll ever submit someone, but look how he pushed Sakara right off when Sakara had him down. Yes, I know Sakara isn’t a ground wiz himself, and Houston got mounted by Thiago Silva, but people are seriously under-rating Silva. Thiago is VERY GOOD. He was by far the best LHW on that card (Bisping-Evans), and possibly a future champ. Houston’s never gonna be a championship contender, but so what? There are enough title contenders already. What we need is more exciting fighters. Houston could be MMA’s answer to Arturo Gatti.
can anyone post the link where he says he made a mistake (unless it is just the one that says he had a bad day.) thanks

KAMA KAZE, where are you getting odds on the Alexander/Irvin fight and the manhy fight????
irvans stand up is way better then houstons, i think if houston wins this fight it will be in the clinch or ground n pound
i say Irvan pulls the upset ko round 1
Remember too that Rampage said that Irvin hits harder than anyone else he’s ever fought or trained with… and he’s actually got formal training. houston is new to all this…
