spencer fisherSpencer Fisher suffered a shoulder injury training for his upcoming bout with Marcus Aurelio at UFC Fight Night 13, forcing the Miletich-trained fighter to withdraw from the lightweight contest, according to Sherdog.com.

Here’s a snip from his manager, Monte Cox:

“Spencer is the kind of fighter who has fought plenty of fights with injuries and Marcus Aurelio is not the kind of fighter you want to fight at 80 percent. He was willing to fight but we decided it just was not a smart decision.”

Jim Miller (10-1) is expected to step up as the last-minute replacement during the three-hour SpikeTV special slated to go off LIVE from the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo., at 7 p.m. ET on April 2.

It will mark the first fight inside the Octagon for Miller who has plied his trade primarily in smaller shows throughout New Jersey. In fact, his only loss was a unanimous decision to top 155-pound contender, Frank Edgar.

Eighty percent of Miller’s wins have come by way of submission, which may not help him much against a ground specialist such as Aurelio.

We’ll see in about two weeks.

that sucks. oh well i’d feel worse if spencer’s fight was supposed to be televised, but seeing how stacked the card is, the chances of it showing on the air were slim to none anyway.

On a slight side note…I am looking forward to seeing Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch. Wonder if Tim is for real or not. Should be a good test for him…hopefully his standup defense is good enough to stuff Hamill’s takedown attempts.

Want to see a few more of those devastating bombs!!!

I thought it was a bad match up for spencer anyway. I wanna see spencer fight someone that will stand and bang with him..
aurelio would have taken him down and submitted him.

Wow thats really too bad for Marcus, training for a guy like Spencer Fisher and then getting switched to a ground/submission specialist two weeks before the fight. It kills me when fighters get injured so soon before a fight, messes up alot of things, the spread on betting, the guys training, etc. It also opens up opportunities for up-coming fighters to give themselves a name though so i guess thats good.

aww definitely lost a good fight there, but it’s not like there wont be another good one to replace it on the televised portion.

Well that worked!!!

I’m looking forward to this fight, too. The whole card for that matter!

Boetsch’s wrestling skills are going to be tested, but so will
Hamill’s chin.I’m leaning towards a Boetsch 2nd round TKO.

This was a bad match-up for Spencer. Period. Spencer does not have that good of a ground game, an Marcus would of submitted him.

Now, Jim Miller is a sleeper, and could be a decent fight against Marcus.

Jim Miller is the ring of combat 155 Champ. The Kid is tuff his only loss at the hands of Frankie Edgar..Well versed in submissions. real good cardio. willingness to bang. is why the UFC called him in on short notice.

If the opponent was going to be J. Miller, I much rather would have preferred that it be JASON rather than Jim. But Mayhem has been fighting at MW for quite some time now, but I’m pretty sure that he’d still be able to make 170. But then again, if he was to make a return to the UFC I’d prefer it to be on the main card of a PPV and not an injury replacement on the undercard of UFN. His last fight was with HDnet fights, but I don’t know how long his contract is. The contracts are non-exclusive, but Dana isn’t much into inter-promoting.

I don’t know much about Jim Miller except that he is a submission fighter and the only fighter I know of that he has faced is Frankie Edgar and he lost by decision. Well Spencer Fisher and Tyson Griffin both lost to Edgar via decision and they are no slouches. However, I do not expect Miller to be up to par with the above mentioned. There is no way that Miller is better or more technical on the ground then Maximus. Aurelio SHOULD win this fight relatively easily. HE HOLDS A WIN OVER GOMI. But Miller is not the same type of fighter as Gomi, but he is about 100 times less of a fighter than Gomi.

Fisher/Aurelio was a fight that I wanted to see. Fisher could not stop the Edgar takedown at all. It was as if he not only never fought a wrestler before, but never even trained in wrestling before! If Aurelio got Spencer to the ground, most are saying that he would have submitted him rather easily. In 24 fights, Fisher has never been submitted. His BJJ is just fine, and has 4 wins by Triangle Choke and 2 by arm bar which means that he does have an active guard. But Aurelio’s BJJ is on another level of Fisher and Miller. Right now, I am thinking of Miller as a version of Spencer Fisher that doesn’t have nearly as good standup. Should provide for an easy win for Maximus.

True. Without knowing the outcomes of the undercard fights, I had this as the third best undercard fight that should be shown.

#1 Thomas/Neer
#2 Guida/Schiavo

Now the Aurelio fight has zero chance of being shown, unless he has a super quick impressive win in the first round and the UFC wants to start giving him a push. But with the stacked LW division, I don’t see that happening.

VM: I too wasn’t understand why everyone on this site seems to think that Fisher has no ground game. I think his ju jitsu is very under rated.

As for Aurelio, they are matching him up against a submission fighter, and I dont think there are that many submission specialists at 155 not fighting in the UFC that will be able to hand with Maximus on the ground. Aurelio should submit Miller no later than the 2nd round.

VM: I checked the archives because I know you dont log onto this site on weekends, but I was happy to read that you saw mania’s post on all the new PRIDE titles that are going to be released this May. I was soooooooo happy Saturday when I read that post!

VM: I did some research last night on Memphis’s 1st round game, and I think they have a great chance of covering the 25 point spread. Memphis lacks size, fortunatley so does their opponent.

Memphis will have trouble facing teams with big front lines. Luckily, Texas Arlington has oneo f the smallest starting line ups in the tournament. The size of the starting line up is:
5′11
6′2
6′4
6′5
6′9

Memphis starting line up:
6′3 (rose)
6′6
6′7
6′9
6′9

Basically what I am trying to say is that Memphis plays “small ball” and since they are facing another team that plays small ball, Memphis wont have to worry about being banged around by a big front line, so I am really starting to like Memphis covering the 25 pt spread.

PHILQny, and ViolentMizzle: Check out yesterday’s thread on “Randy Couture vs. Fedor anywhere just not in the UFC”. I posted wanderlei’s new interview under that thread were he states that Jacre is in Vegas at Extreme Couture helping wanderlei prepare for his next fight and that Jacre will be in the UFC soon.

I posted wanderlei’s entire interview, which had to be translated from portugease. Check it out when you have the time, its a good read and wanderlei talks about how he was dissapointed that Galvao couldn’t be on TUF 7 because of Visa problems.

I just locked it in at -24.5 I’ve been putting a few bucks on a couple of NBA games a night and been doing pretty well. Yesterday I had Hornets -4.5 vs Bulls, Pacers to beat Knicks, Magic -6.5 vs Cavs and I hit them all!!!!!

Tonight I just got the Celtics 4.5 vs Rockets and Under 202.5 for Bucks vs Heat.

U better be easy, with that addictive personality of yours. I know because I am the same way. I love that unders pick on the heat/bucks game. Betting against the Rockets right now is a gutsy move, especially since the Celtics had a very hard fought game last night against the spurs. They had to come back from a big deficit in that game.
