“As it stands now, there are six middleweight fights on the Montreal card (including mine), but I really don’t know how many of them are going to be challenging for the title in the near future. I just see Silva on such a pedestal right now. It’s tough being a middleweight and fighting to the get that No. 1 contender status and then knowing you’ll be facing him. It’s like climbing Mt. Everest. It’s such a struggle to get to basecamp, and then there’s the summit.”

– Middleweight Jason MacDonald via SportsNet.ca describes what it’s like to be in the same division as UFC 185-pound champion, Anderson Silva.

Sorry but Silva is not unbeatable. We all thought that about Chuck, Tito, Arlovski and more.

He can be put on his back as has been shown in all his fights. I could see him getting G & P soon enough. Okami was causing damage from Silvas guard when they fought.

Yes he’s good, very good but unbeatable… no.

After Okami, Silva should just leave the middle weight division alone for a while and fight at 205 or 170. Get a new champ at 185, or an interim champ or something, but just give the weight class back lol. Then he can go on a tear in 205 and rip off Chuck’s limbs.

that’s exactly what i was thinking, he should fight at 205 and get new challengers because there’s no one at 185 that can beat him right now, maybe drop to 170 and challenge st. pierre ones he get the title. but i think he should go to 205 instead, there are a lot of guys he could have trouble at 205 such as machida, thiago, rampage and shogun to name a few, guys he could probably beat rashasd, chuck, forrest, wandy.

Dan Henderson can beat Silva, but he has to be in shape to do it. It was blatantly obvious that Hendo was gassed and he “gaved up” in his last fight. I did not see the Warrior Hendo of old against Anderson Silva.

I don’t know what it is, but it seems the “ring fighters” (in general) from Pride have some sort of “allergic reaction” to the octagon and don’t do well overall.

Did you watch that fight? Hendo was doing everything necessary to win until he got caught with Anderson’s knee. Being tired isnt the reason that everyone is losing to Silva, its just the fact that his strikes are so accurate, its hard to make it past one round withough getting caught, let alone five
As for someone eventually ground and pounding him, he has had some of the best on top of him including Lutter, Marquardt, and Henderson, and has either avoided their damage, or reversed them. Im sorry, but nobody at 185 will ever beat Silva, he proved it at 82

THE MAN I WANT TO SEE FACE SILVA IS

RONALDO “JACARE” SOUZA

If he takes Silva down then its a rap plain and simple. He would need to take him down without catching a bomb which is the hard part.

Jacare would makes Silva’s black belt in BJJ turn blue real quick.

If Jacare develped good stand up (not enough to go toe to toe with Silva thats just stupid) but enough to defend fairly well he may stand a chance. But first he would have to face some other middle weights like Franklin, Okami, Henderson as he hasn’t been truely tested against top 10.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5WD36oHTnU

On the ground with this guy and 99.99% of fighters are through.

If UFC brought in Jacare with a few wins over some strikers he could make a legit claim for the title.

I don’t know about that. Henderson went five rounds with Rampage. And if his cardio was even half as good as that fight, he would have still been fine into the 2nd round with Silva. I thought Henderson had a good chance at Silva like most everyone else, but let’s face it, he got knocked silly and submitted early in the 2nd round. No excuses for Dan please.
And after watching that clip where Serra says “I wasn’t the one who tapped”. I was reminded of how GSP just absolutely gave up before getting TKO’d. I don’t see a Silva vs GSP fight as a good idea. Moving to lhw would be better in my opinion.

Somebody needs to “pull a Serra” against Anderson. In other words, stand in front of him, trade shots, and take your chances. Maybe Patrick Cote could do it, or even better, Wandy (wishful thinking though).

If he does move up or down in weight, I hope they don’t give him an instant title shot. If he has two belts, it will be too long between defences, and TUF already takes up enough time as it is.

Chuck was invincible. Then he was exposed. Matt Hughes was invincible then HE was exposed. Well, I’m hear to tell you that exposed or not, fighters are just getting better and smarter. Between watching film and studying tendancies it’s only a matter of time before he goes down. Let’s just all enjoy the ride cause the man deserves the credit. Dominance attracts good and bad comments but love him or hate him, you’re still on here talking about him. Oh well, just my opinion.

penn and anderson, that would be great. think of this scenario…bj wins against sherk and gets rid of the interim crap…anderson moves down and beats either gsp or serra, and then bj moves up to fight anderson for all the belts (i know it would really only be for ww, but why make them fight twice for two different belts right?) that would be pretty insane, one man holding three belts!! that would eliminate the pound for pound question i think.

He didn’t gas out, Silva was able to connect a couple of good knees to the head, that made him scramble, once he went to the ground he was getting more hits wich eventually made him open his guard, Henderson is a top fighter, great warrior, he trade with Rampage for 5 rounds so his condition is great, he had a great first round, but Anderson Silva is so good that made him look weak.

Don’t really agree with that last statement. While there have been some disappionting results from fighters coming from Pride, three of the five current UFC belts are held by former Pride fighters. Machida has looked good coming over, and the jury is still out on Wandy & Shogun. Overall, mixed results.

I agree with the idea that Henderson could win against Silva. Unfortunately he didn’t and I was not impressed with Henderson’s performance. I’m left to wonder if this guy is truly unbeatable at 185. I think Hendo poses the only real threat at 185 (regardless of fight organization) and he was unable to do any real damage, even when he had Anderson on his back.

I’d like to see a rematch between these two. I can’t say that I see any difference in the outcome, but it would be interesting…

Unlike many of you, I want Silva to stay right where he is, as middleweight champion in the UFC. I cant believe some of you are claiming that he is too good to be fighting at 185 lb and he should go to another weight class. Why would u want one of the most dominant fighters in the world to leave the weakest division in the UFC? nIf it wasnt for Silva the division would be trash. He still has a lot to accomplish at middleweight. For example: He should make a run at Matt Hughes record of title defenses. Whats wrong with staying at middleweight and becoming the most dominant champion the UFC has ever seen?

J-mac is a skilled guy, but he lacks toughness needed to take him to the next level. Is skills are up there with the best, but he just doesnt have it. Franklin out toughed him, and he quit. Inexcusable, and stuff like that, along with this interview is exactly why he will never be a champion. He just doesnt have it in him!

The difference between Chuck and Anderson is that Anderson is not as one dimensional. Anderson has a lot more to work with
IMO

Anderson

More accurate punching and better technique
Better kicks
Better submission and submission defense
A much, much deadlier clinch game
Better combinations (maybe the best ever seen in MMA)

Chuck

Better wrestling
Better takedowns and takedown defense
More power in punches

OK thats a pretty quick and shallow assessment but still it shows a difference. It would be a good match.

Anderson Vs Chuck
Muay Thai Vs Kick Boxing
BJJ Vs Wrestling

Personally I think that anderson Silva uses his catalogue of skills a lot better than Chuck who hardly ever turns to his wrestling. But Anderson Silva will be better off continuing the domination of the middleweights for the next year and half as the TUF show may yeild 1 (hopefully more) contenders out of the massive 32 man roster.

guys walk into rings and octagons all the time knowing they will get their butt kicked but they do it with dignity. what about all the club fighters who are fed to contenders in boxing. they know they are there as a stepping stone and they will get beat down but they show up, don’t kiss butt, and leave with dignity. how about the guys who fight faber. none of them know they have a shot but I’ve never heard any of them bow down to faber before the fight.

Silva is as close as it gets to being unbeatable. But, I was very surprised wiht the first round of the Hendo fight. I can see Henderson doing that for 5 rounds to silva. It would be a very boring fight, but i can see Henderson surving 1 or 2 rounds with Silva in a standup match and then the other 3 rounds being like the 1st round of their last match. Henderson can beat Silva by decision.

There was nothing reported on the UFC’s part on the matter, but that both managers for both fighters (Anderson and Roy) have in fact accepted the fight. The article ends with silva stating “we’ll fight in which ever weight class he wants”.

This could really happen! Anderson for the KO! Go spider, go!

man how many fighters have been called unbeatable in the past?? anderson is unbeatable right NOW. but a day will come when someone takes him out, it happens to all the greats sooner or later. don’t get me wrong i like the spider he has embarassed the whole division, but you know the saying “every dog has its day”. i’m kind of in the mindframe of an earlier poster that some hard hitting banger is going to smack him on the button and drop his azz. doesn’t mean the guys better just means everyone gets caught sooner or later.

p.s.- while spider moving up to LHW would create some intriguing match ups, i for one think there are enough contenders up there already. lets wait till the dust settles and then see what happens.

Would like to see Silva fight Chuck. But Dana would not let it happen. Too bad.

Silva is a beast, no doubt about that. Someone said that Silva is to long for Bj, that is bad thing if Silva ends up on the ground. With Bj’s flexability he’s going to grab hold of a leg or an arm. Anyway, I think styles make fights and this would be fun to watch.

Wow jason… you sound like one of those fighters who loses the fight before you even step into the ring with that a comment like that.

that would be an insane fight
would rather see bj vs. henderson, silva would TKO penn in the 1st round (minute?).

And I’m a pretty big fan of penn’s.

Everyone’s ragging on J-Mac. Give him a break. I think that his comment is honesty. He didn’t say he’d lose (actually, I think the likes of him and Lutter and other ground fighters have the best chance). He just gave a real honest portrayal of the situation.

I’d rather hear Macdonald speak truth than the likes of Chris Leben saying stupid crap that everyone knows is nonsense.

Anderson Silva will get beat in one of his next two fights.

He is an incredible fighter, but I feel like the streak has to come to an end. Okami could easily finish Silva. The truth is several fighters in the MW division have the tools to beat him, they’ve just all not fought their fight. HENDO beat Silva down in the first round.

Silva is one tough bastard, but has anyone truly tested his chin? I mean really stood up and striked with him? Yeah, the guy ducks and weaves and avoids the punches, but what happens when he meets someone who connects flush on the that melon head of his.

Silva is great, but all greats can be DESTROYED. Liddell, Hughes, GSP, Franklin, Wandy, Couture…they’ve all been DESTROYED more than once.

Anderson Silva is human.

Instead of Silva dropping weight to fight St.pierre I think he should gain weight and fight Silva for the 185 belt. In the end i think it would be a great match at either weight and should happen

I think its a great skill of his that his chin has never been tested. Id rather be a fighter who can never be hit and finish opponents off than be a fighter that gets hit and gets knocked out because of a weak chin. He fights his fight and thats a great skill. He trades with the best of them. Hendo landed a few but couldnt connect with the big one, Murray, Franklin all tried landing the big one but when they try and get close enough Silva is quick enough to capitalize on the situation. I do think he will get beat in his next 5 fights, no one is unbeatable that is for sure but the level of competition really have to step up a gear to have a chance against him.

Sorry but Silva is not unbeatable. We all thought that about Chuck, Tito, Arlovski and more.

He can be put on his back as has been shown in all his fights. I could see him getting G & P soon enough. Okami was causing damage from Silvas guard when they fought.

Yes he’s good, very good but unbeatable… no.
dont try to speak for everyone on here. i dont think people who already had losses on their records are unbeatable and i made a lot of money on rampage/chuck II
Muppet. I’m not trying to speak for everyone, this is an opinion just like everyone else on here.

Wow good for you with your bet, your amazing.
