DREAM 1 results
The debut event for the new Japanese DREAM promotion took place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, while most of us were sleeping.

Notables Mirko Cro Cop and EliteXCs Eddie Alvarez were victorious in their bouts, as well as Hayato Sakurai and Joachim Hansen among others.

However, the big fight of the night between Gesias “JZ” Calvancante and Shinya Aoki ended in controversy. “JZ” apparently landed accidental — albeit illegal — blows to the back of Aoki’s neck and he could not continue. The bout was ruled a no contest after less than a round of action.

Here are the complete results thanks to Sherdog.com:

Ikuhisa Minowa defeats Bum Chan Kang via submission (kneebar)
Hayato “Mach” Sakurai defeats Hidetaka Monma via technical knockout (strikes)
Joachim Hansen defeats Kotetsu Boku via unanimous decision Luiz Firmino defeats Kazuyuki Miyata via submission (rear naked choke)
Katsuhiko Nagata defeats Artur Oumakhanov via unanimous decision
Mitsuhiro Ishida defeats Bu Kyung Jung via unanimous decision
Mirko Filipovic defeats Tatsuya Mizuno via technical knockout (strikes)
Eddie Alvarez defeats Andre “Dida” Amade via technical knockout (strikes)
Tatsuya Kawajiri defeats Kultar “Black Mamba” Gill via unanimous decision
Gesias Calvancante vs. Shinya Aoki ruled a no contest

It appears that even though the fight didn’t have a clear winner, “JZ” will likely advance to the next round of the lightweight tournament because Aoki was unable to continue.

That means the remaining field includes Hansen, Buscape, Nagata, Ishida, Alvarez, Kawajiri and possibly JZ.

Looking pretty sick. Stay tuned for on official ruling on the JZ-Aoki situation.

Videos will be added after the jump as they pour in.

Mirko Filipovic vs. Tatsuya Mizuno:

Eddie Alvarez vs: Andre “Dida” Amade:

Gesias Calvancante vs. Shinya Aoki:

Joachim Hansen vs. Kotetsu Boku:

Hayato “Mach” Sakurai vs. Hidetaka Monma:

What I saw of the event, looked good! The famous Japanease announcer with the mohawk and the
shinny suite from PRIDE is back to announce the DREAM bouts.

Also:
DREAM MIDDLEWEIGHT TOURNAMENT, april 26. participants:
Kazushi Sakuraba,
Yoshihiro Akiyama,
Masakatsu Funaki,
Dong-Sik Yoon,
Taiei Kin,
Shungo Oyama,
Ikuhisa Minowa.

Also Dennid Kang is rumored to take part in this tournament!

Cro Cop won his match. The beginning of the end, started when Cro Cop Clinched and started
connecting with knees, then Cro Cop ended the fight with punches. It was a quick fight, that dude
Mizuno was a tomato CAN!

22 points alone on the alvarez fight.
I picked the correct fighter, type and rd on 5 fights and got all the fights correct except one.
Too bad about the main event though I was going for JZ to win the whole thing or hansen but…

I was expecting JZ’s boxing to be better since he is supposedly a “K-1 level” striker. His hands looked extremely slow and robotic. But I guess we learned that K-1 success doesn’t mean shit in MMA from Razor Rob.

IMO, BJ and Sherk would take out both thse guys pretty easy.

Everyone I thought was going to win won except JZ. Only problem is, I put ALL my money on JZ! He was clearly going to win if not for the questionable blows, and I don’t know why the hell the ref let Aoki get up right after JZ landed a freakin’ bomb of a punch. I don’t get why their fight was a no contest either. If it’s an illegal blow that makes it so you can’t continue, the guy who delivered the blow should lose. If it wasn’t illegal, then Aoki lost. All I know is, this sucks, and Calvancante is the favorite to win the whole thing. Kawajiri should be the hardest guy for him to beat.

Cro cop just didn’t look impressive in that fight as compared to his other fights in pride. The other dude looked a bit like Ron Waterman who just bent over and took it after feeling out Cro cop’s power.

Cro cop just doesn’t look as vicious and aggressive as he normally looks. Last time we saw that was when he won the Pride open GP.

From what I saw so far, the 1st DREAM event seemed pretty good. I would have to say it was better than what I saw of World Victory Road and Yerranoka.

The quality of DReam 1st show, gives me hope that Pride may be making a comeback which would be great to see. This inagural event was better than PRIDE 1 as well as UFC 1 so there is hope.
The production looked great, just like Pride was. They even had the classic Pride announcer, the Pride rules and the 10 minute 1st round. I am excited to see the next couple of Dream events because I expect them to get better and better.

The middleweight fighters said to take part in the DREAM middleweight grand prix are a solid bunch featuring legendary Japanease fighters Sakuraba, Funaki. Akiyama, Kang, Minowa, Tamura and a few other tough fighters I forgot shold make this an exciting and prestigous middleweight tournament.

Also DREAM’s stable of fighters is going to get better and better. This morning I was watching Cro Cop vs. Mark hunt from shockwave and I pray that DReam gives us Cro Cop vs. Hunt part 3. The 1st fight took place in K-1 and Mirko won. The 2nd match was in Pride and it was an amazing match which Hunt eventually lost and cro cop B*tched! A 3rd fight would be really exciting and if Mirko is serious about getting his career back on track and eventually take another crack at the UFC heavyweight division then he is goingt o have to prove him self against tough guys like Hunt. If he keeps fighting Mizuno’s than he is going to start to look like Bisping instead of a guy that HW used to be scared to death of.

Question: Can anyone remember what fight it was that Gilbert Yvel KO the referee?

if going back to fighting a bunch of ham n’ eggers to get his confidence up is what needs to be done, then do it. This guy was an animal and can still be a factor. Sometimes, you head can ruin your body….Mirko’s head was not in it in the UFC and he disappointed alot of people, mainly himself i’m sure.

Aoki would submit Sherk 1st round or if sherk is lucky second round. Aoki vs BJ would be a good match doh or JZ vs BJ. Sherk is a good fighter but i dont see it possible for him to pull that take down do nothing and win vs someone like aoki who would submit his ass with the quickness.

Mirko had a lot of time to train and not worry about top level competition, if he keeps fighting the lame ducks like he just did he can look like Jay Cutler! Truth be told, Mirko won’t impress anyone until he steps back into the Octagon and faces the best! Dream lived up to its name for Mirko: Just keep dreaming, it’s not a real fight!

No mention of Arona at all! Havent heard any news about Arona in a long time. But I for got too mention that Tamura is rumored to take part in the tournament. I dont know if Kazuo Misake will take place in the tournament. He signed a 2 fight deal with StrikeForce that will make him exclusive ot StrikeForce in the USA, but will allow him to compete in Japan, so maybe we will get to see Misake in t he tournament.
