Have to agree. If it was pure boxing, you would have to give it to Jones even if he is past his prime. Silva would definately have a punchers chance in the early rounds, but fighting 5 rounds in the Octagan and boxing 12 rounds in the ring (not that it would last 12 rounds) is a whole different ball game. In the Octogan Jones would not get past the first round.

I don’t know. Jones is (well) past his prime. A couple of the first few skills to deminish with age is hand speed and reaction time - both of which would be necessary to hang with Anderson Silva. Back in the day (Roy in his prime), in a boxing match I would take Roy Jones Jr all day long. Anderson Silva uses a lot more than just punches when he uses his striking. Knees, elbows, kicks… Anderson has hurt a few fighters with his punches alone so he would definitely have a chance against Roy Jones Jr. Call me crazy, but with the proper specialized training, I think that Anderson could pull it off. The bigger obstacles would be getting used to the larger gloves which would take away from his greatest strength - pin point accuaracy. Also, Anderson doesn’t necessarily posses the greatest one punch KO power, he is more of a stun you and throw a wicked combination at you for the finish.

It would be an interesting fight to see for sure.

I’m have to be bias on this and will go with Roy Jones Jr. I think Jones has a lot more power punch than Silva. When we talk about speed, I think with the combinations of power and speed, Jones takes this one. I would love to see this fight happen nonetheless.

I think it would be a good match that boxing fans could appreciate. If Jones is slightly past his prime, then it makes for a good case, since MMA fighters supposedly suck at boxing. From their perspective, Jones should KO Silva fairly easily. On the MMA side of the equation, it’s a good match for Silva because he’s not going up against the currently-regarded #1 boxing personality (Mayweather).

The boxing world would never allow this to happen. They have too much to lose if Roy falls.

i agree w/this statement. rj,oscar and lennox have all been very respectful towards mma, plus roy is way past his prime so why not cll out the badmouthers like floyd or benard hopkins. hopkins is closer to silvas weight than floyd. even w/roys diminished skills icant see silva beating him in a straight up boxing match, unless he lands a lucky over the top bomb like tarver did. i’ll bet this is just about the money or will probably be just hype like floyd’s serious negotiations w/ cuban to fight in mma.

I dont see chuck ever being able to beat Nogueira, not now, not in his prime, not EVER! Nogueira has never been Ko’ed and he has been hit harder than what chuck could hit him with.

Regardless of weather he could beat Nogueira or not, I wouldnt mind seeing Chuck move up to heavyweight towards the end of his career. Brandon Verra called him out a while back, so a match up between Chuck vs. verra at Heavyweight would be very interesting. Anderson is, without a doubt… the top mma guy right now. What makes him so dangerous is how well rounded he is… Killer knees, wicked elbows, great sprawl… amazing Thai clinch, great hands etc, etc… if you take away everything except his hands… wrap them in 12 oz. gloves… put him in against a boxer like Roy Jones… Silva gets demolished. Boxing and mma are two different sports… let’s keep it that way.

Roy looked pretty good against Trinidad in his last fight so with out the submission or the clinch I don’t see silva beating Roy Jones at his own sport even though I would really like to see Anderson win I don’t think he can pull this off. Roy Jones Jr. is one of the greatest boxers that has ever lived. He’s about 6-7 removed from his prime, but he would still wipe the floor with Silva in a boxing match. He has three straight wins since he hit the wall against Tarver and Glen Johnson, including a dominant performance against Tito Trinidad.

Why? Because its what AS trains everyday, its what he lives for, he has spent YEARS training in the sport. He is a very well rounded fighter. Good hand speed, great stand up, good ground game. But mind you, we see all those skills against fighters that also train in MMA. NOT AGAINST BOXERS LIKE RJJ.

Roy on the other hand has BOXED the best of the best, and for the longest time was considered the baddest man on the planet, the #1 P4P boxer in the world. Even at 36, he is a top 10 LHWT. Just whooped Felix T. It wasnt even close.
But this is what RJJ lives for, its what he trains everyday.

This fight isnt even close. 2nd round KO… AS goes to sleep and the MMA world comes to the realization that MMA fighters can not hang with boxers in their world, just as they can not hang in the MMA world.

Imagine how surprised I was. This was the 1st fake wrestling match I watched in years. I flicked it on during a commercial because I was trying to see the whole mayweather Fiasco and I see that the undertaker is fighting in a coffin match, so I’m like cool, I’ll check it out. the fightw as winding down and I was waiting for a tombstone but instead I see him whip out a gogo plata, and Mark Henry was tapping….I was like what the hell is going on here? Then during the replay the commentators were like look at this beautiful Triangle choke by the undertaker….I was blown away, I just couldnt believe what I was seeing.

Brock Lesnar gets into the UFC, a couple wrestlers go watch him fight, and now I see the undertaker trying to do gogo Plata’s and the announcers talking about Triangle chokes….What the hell is going on?

i watched that fight, at first he was going for an armbar, then he switched it up into a nice triangle choke, but at the last second moved his ankle underneath the chin and pulled down on the guys head. i was in shock honestly. the commentators called it a triangle style choke, not a triangle choke. they made it sound like they had no clue what it was.

what can i say, i’ve been a fan of wrestling a bit longer than i have been of MMA, but only because when iw as a kid, UFC VHS tapes were hard to come by and our cable company didn’t offer any sort of PPV at all.

I would love to see this match. Roy Jones Jr. has always been my favorite boxer. Anderson Silva has great stand up, but that also includes knees, kicks, elbows, and tia clinch. If you take that away in a straight up boxing match with Jones, The Spider would be in HUGE trouble.

I thought that’s what the UFC used to be when it started.

I have never seen Roy box, but I know Anderson is very technical and i also know that he has boxed at least once. (he knocked this opponent out. I don’t know how many boxing matches he actually had tho) Boxing gloves are a lot thicker than 4 oz mma gloves. He might not be as devastating a striker and would have to adjust. I’d pay to see him box anyone.

anderson is a decent kickboxer but he’s neither a world class boxer or kickboxer (despite what joe rogan says). So the premier boxers would KO him e.g. most recently david haye

Jones would own him! Sure Silvas a excellent striker with deadly accuracy, but theres a lot more to it than that! His defense would be nowhere near jones’s, same for footwork. Even if he fought Mayweather he would not be able to hit him, although i wouldnt see Mayweather knocking Silva out. Any other style of fighting Anderson would dominate easily but choosing Jones jr in a boxing match he would lose badly!

I wouldnt say any mma fighters that Silva has fought, have the knockout power of the boxers he would have to fight.

LOL the boxing world will let anything happen that makes money(ie BUTTER BEAN, ALI/Frazier 4, Ali vs that wrestler he took on in the 70s) Like mayweather say if it makes dollars it makes sense. That being said there is no way UFC puts up Roy type money. Silva is actually bigger then Roy, Roy fought his last fight at 170 and started out as a junior middle weight(154lbs). He is like 40 years old and has had some devestating knock out loses. I still think roy would make him look bad with his foot and head movement though. I think a better harder opponent would be someone like Bernard Hopkins ( know he is old but damn he’s good). Kelly Pavlik or jermain taylor. Even they are a little small for him and forget mayweather he is way too small I mean the guy is a natural 130 pounder.
