those huge hand pillows your referring to are actually padded weapons...

consider this...you call boxers p***ies cuz they use large gloves

but there have been numerous boxers who have died in the ring from head trauma and other brain injuries because of the fact that such a huge amount of weight is being used to pound your face

how many MMA fighters have died??!! none...yea...thats right...ZERO! why cuz o idk...4 oz gloves dont do much damage!

a boxer's left hook is considered the deadliest strike a human being is capable of...even stronger than someone's kick...

so spare me this crap about using 'hand pillows'...it just makes you look ridiculous

quote from ROy Jones Jr.

"The trip was great. The fans over there seemed highly interested in having me go over there to showcase my talents and put on a show with him. They know if I'm there it's guaranteed to be a good show. Right now I'm also hearing that this guy Silva is really talking about fighting me in a boxing match and I think that's bigger than Beyer. If he comes up again, I mean he got on his website that he wants Roy Jones Jr, if he's serious that might mean more to me than going to Germany and fighting Beyer. In Germany I know I'm going to knock Beyer out because that's the way I have to win over there. But with Silva, I know I can outbox him and be good. It would be smarter for me to fight I don't know his first name, but Silva first and then Beyer or the winner of Bernard and Calzaghe."
I would be very interested to see this. I argue with my friends all the time on boxing vs mma. They say "a boxer would win a boxing match". Of course, " but a boxer wouldn't win a fight" is my reply. When was the last time anyone got in a bar scrap and put on huge ass gloves and doinked each other in the head for 30 minutes. There's a difference they just don't get. Don't know my own point. Maybe i need smarter friends.
When was the last time anyone got in a bar scrap (or at any other public venue for that matter) and was given ample time and space to roll around on the floor uninterrupted until someone tapped out?

The last time I saw two people fight "mano y mano" was in high school which is laughable when you think about it. I have yet to see a "fair fight" between two equally sized, unarmed people in public. More often than not someone gets sucker punched, jumped, stabbed or shot and it never takes place in a dark alley with no one around. In virtually every instance, the fight takes place in a crowded place where people are practically shoulder-to-shoulder.

The point I'm trying to make here, and as my name indicates, is that it's all about **context**. All sports/martial arts are designed to operate within a certain context and MMA is no exception to this rule. The rules and regulations of a particular sport define the context and identify the athletic skills and abilities necessary to succeed in that sport. While those skills and abilities may translate and serve as a foundation for other sports they don't guarantee success in other sports.

The problem is that far too many athletes, either ignorantly or arrogantly, assume that this doesn't apply to them or their sport of choice. This is especially the case within the martial arts community and even more so with members of the MMA community and their fans. Studying MMA or any other MA doesn't make you invincible and you can get ****ed up just like anyone else.

Kobe Bryant may be 6'6" with great leaping ability but that doesn't mean he'd make a great wide receiver. Devon Hester may run a 4.35 in the 40 yd. dash but I don't see him smoking Maurice Greene. Anderson Silva may be a great MMA fighter but I don't see him outclassing any elite pro boxers. All are great athletes who excel at their respective sports and it should be left at that.

I still cant believe that nobody heard that the Undertaker finished his fight last night on RAW with a version of a gogo plata which the commentators called a triangle choke!

Undertaker doing ju jitsu.....what has the world come to?
i watched that fight, at first he was going for an armbar, then he switched it up into a nice triangle choke, but at the last second moved his ankle underneath the chin and pulled down on the guys head. i was in shock honestly. the commentators called it a triangle style choke, not a triangle choke. they made it sound like they had no clue what it was.

what can i say, i've been a fan of wrestling a bit longer than i have been of MMA, but only because when iw as a kid, UFC VHS tapes were hard to come by and our cable company didn't offer any sort of PPV at all.
I am happy to hear that someone else caught it. I found it weird that the 1st time in years that I caught a wrestling match it ended in a version of a gogo plata. You are right, they may have called it a triangle style choke.

I still cant believe that nobody heard that the Undertaker finished his fight last night on RAW with a version of a gogo plata which the commentators called a triangle choke!

Many years ago Kurt Angle was fighting Undertaker and Angle had him in a triangle choke, and they called it that. Then Undertaker powerbomed Angle and pinned him and Undertaker tapped out at the same time the ref counted to 3. Cool ending.
That is a cool ending. I am even more shocked to here that the WWE was incorporating ju jitsu into their fake matches years ago.
On ECW Tazz is an announcer and always says that CM Punk is well versed in BJJ and martial arts. He also does the wrist thing that vanderlei does.

I would also rather see him go against Mayweather, Roy Jones is getting old and if silva loses they would laugh saying that he got beat by an old dude, if he won, that he beat an old dude. It's a lose/lose situation with Roy, but regardless if the fight happens I'd watch it.

As for him boxing, I'd love to see him fight elite boxers, it wouldn't matter if he lost he would gain even more respect from me regardless (and there isn't much more respect left for me to give him, he is on top of his game).
Floyd Mayweather is like 5'7" and weighs 145 lbs. A fight against Anderson Silva that is like 6'2" and walks around at over 200 lbs.
i'd like to see Faber put Mayweather in his place.

Fair enough. But it came across as needlessly contentious. Nowhere in my post did I decide "how he should live his life and fight."
