Welterweights Roan Carneiro (12-6) and Ryo Chonan (14-8) are penciled in to scrap at UFC 85 at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7, according to Sherdog.com.
Carneiro recently dispatched of Tony DeSouza via technical knockout at UFC 79: “Nemesis” in December 2007, elevating his record inside the Octagon to above .500. “Jucao”— who recently signed on to train at American Top Team — has a submission loss to Jon Fitch and a unanimous decision win over Rich Clementi.
He was supposed to take on Diego Sanchez at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion;” however, he had to withdraw from the fight because of an illness.
Chonan dropped his Octagon debut to Karo Parisyan via unanimous decision at UFC 78: “Validation” back in November 2007. He has a ton of experience competing overseas and has gone up against some of the very best in the sport.
Both fighters are veterans of the Japan-based DEEP promotion and even went at it once before in a middleweight affair — Chonan came out victorious in the first round because of a technical knockout (cut).
UFC 85 features the main event between light heavyweights Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans, as well as a heavyweight showdown between Brandon Vera and Fabricio Werdum.

I am looking forward to this fight..Ryo is one crazy dude.
And now that his first UFC fight is out of the way, I see him returning to his old self.
Off topic”
Mania’
there is an interesting interview on fighthype.com with Hackleman….
He is saying he thinks Rashad is going to be “tougher fight” for Chuck then Shogun..
Also he want’s Anderson Silva to come train with Chuck..
..It was a decent interview with Hack being his usual dumbass self…
I would like to see Ryo fight at 185..he is in all reality the only fighter to have beaten Anderson Silva recently via a nasty flying heel hook. I would rather see him fight Silva then Okami who really didn’t beat Silva.
Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Vera will square off in a heavyweight elimination about that will likely decide the number 1 contender to Antonio Rodrigo Noguieras Interim Heavyweight title. - whatttt??
I really dont care about this match-up really. It sucks knowing that this will probably be on the main card, and I really hope this is on free tv.
But hey if Ryo wins via flying something.. then it would be sweet.

I didn’t say that.

I agree….I want to see that rematch soo bad…(even though Silva would kill him now.
I think if Ryo can string a few big wins in the UFC, then a Silva/Chonnen rematch could be very promotable…
His wins would have to be agianst some top competition, because his loss to Karo set him back..
I think with his first UFC fight out of the way, he will be fighting like he used to…

It’s from the wrong site — Prowrestling.com had that line.
Close fight. I’ll go with Carneiro.
I cant wait to see ryo fight again his last fight with kyro was a bad boring fight i hope he comes back and ready to fight again but i do agree i would like to see him at 185
Roan has potential. He almost choked out Fitch with a anaconda choke and gulletine. But then at the end, he kind of just gave up from getting tired or something. At least he didn’t get bullied like Fitch’s victims.
who gives a flyin shit about thsi fight

I WOULD OF RATHER SEE CHONAN VS BISPING BUT JOE SILVA IS TO MUCH
OF A PUSSY TO GIVE BISPING A REAL OPPONENT.
I just dont understand why he makes some fights they just dont make snce why he would do it god i would love to have his job

if chonan would have beaten karo we would be seeing this rematch. this is why i think gsp and b.j would have a better chance at siva. they are smaller and faster than everyone else at 185. gsp has great leg kicks and b.j. has the best submission game in my book. it will take a great strategy to beat the spider, not just trying to get him down and gnp him. has anyone heard anymore about A.A.,s status? i think his contract is up in april and iread somewhere it was between him and kosheck that the ufc were gonna extend, not both, just one or the other. dosent sound good for A.A. cause kos would come cheaper.
I don’t give a flying heel hook about this fight.

Slow down there. Until we know whats up with Fedor’s negotiations with the UFC, which would most likeky be followed by the return of couture, I dont think that the UFC will be booking any Nogueira fights. Until the Fedor/Couture mess is sorted out,, Nogueira wont be offered any fights!
I think Roan vs. Ryo will be a very exciting fight. I am not sure its good enough to make the main card, but it would make a very solid undercard fight.
Speaking of UFC 85: Is Swick vs. Marcus Davis going to happen, or was it just a rumor? Anyone know?
very good match up i really think this will be a chessmatch. dont know who to call yet.
No one has confirmed Davis vs. Swick (to my knowledge). Most sites have Davis penciled in against an unnamed opponent. As for this fight, I’d predict it going to Chonan via decision. Roan’s probably not going to choke Ryo out, and I see this being just as boring as Carneiro v. Fitch. Ryo’s probably going to lay on him just like Fitch did so I hope the fight just stays standing instead.
Side note: Fitch will never beat GSP; did you see Fitch vs. Wilson? All Fitch can do is lay n pray. He’s learned that from Koscheck. Fitch may have earned a fight against Matt Hughes, but he hasn’t earned a shot against GSP (assuming Serra loses). If he can beat Matt Hughes, then, maybe, you can argue that he’d have a shot against GSP. But so far he has not shown that ability whatsoever. Fitch beat Diego and now everyone thinks he’s the next big thing. They thought the same thing about Koscheck after he beat Diego. Somehow, it has become the mark of a future champion to beat Diego Sanchez, yet popular opinion seems to be that he could never be champ at WW. This is bullshit logic. When Fitch fights good fighters, he wins close, boring matches where he takes as few risks as possible. He lays on people, waits for them to give him their backs, then he chokes them out. That’s what he does and it won’t work on GSP. Hell, I’d like to see Fitch take on Serra- Fitch would be lucky to take a split decision, the guy is sickly overrated at this point.
good fight hope it is on main card, any word yet if this pay per view will be on spike tv for free yet
roan is the best at what he does and will fight no problem
