“With my background, wrestling has always been something that I’ve focused on, and it’s been a part of me. But I can definitely stand up and I do like to do it. In training I stand up with the best of them and I know I can do it in a fight and stand up the whole time if I have to.”
Rashad Evans comments on his upcoming showdown with Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 on June 7 from the O2 Arena in London, England, which was just confirmed by the organization after Mauricio “Shogun” Rua just withdrew because of an injured knee. His “stand up” will more than likely not be the reason he wins this fight if he can pull off the upset — Chuck has a major edge in that department. Major.

Can someone explain to me how Rashad “The MOST Boring Fighter in the UFC” Evans will now have headlined two major UFC events? Chuck in Round 1 by brutal KO…
That’s a joke, Rashad is good but its a piece of cake for Chuck
that piece of cake knocked out chuck
ya, i think Chuck will win rather easily, i just cant stand “sugar” and cant see someone who just won a split decision to bisping going toe to toe with a former champ
Chuck loss the UFC LHW title to Rampage..then loss to Jardine..then beat Wandi..9 out 10 times Chuck beats Rashad..if he beats him..he would be 2-2 in his last 4 fights..I’m sure he would granted a title shot..which to me doesn’t add up. If Page which I feel he will..beats Forrest.. Page/Chuck 3..will give Page a hat trick against the Iceman.
Chuck can beat a good wreslter like Rashad that has decent stand up..how would Chuck do against Machida???
I would have Tito gets his last fight against Rashad to clear up that draw.
I would match up Machida with Chuck. Or Thiago.
hey Rashad! U FUNNY!
Chuck KO/TKO 2nd rd.
Cant really make comparisons due to different fighting styles, but I will anyways. Rashad got off with a draw due to a Tito mistake (cheat). Chuck smashed Tito. Twice. Sorry but do not think Sugar will make it out of the first. Chuck by KO late 1st.
To be sure, Rashad’s no pushover. Having said that, I don’t see Rashad beating Chuck. Not now, not later, not ever. Dana’s giving Chuck a semi-can so he can pad his record.
If I was Rashad I would plant my feet in the center of the ring and just trade shots with Chuck till I won. I don’t see any way this plan could possibly fail.
I’m so mad about this fight, should have been thiago vs the iceman. but I’m done crying about it, got to face reality
I think this will be a repeat of chuck/tito.
Thiago Silva hasn’t done anything in the UFC to warrant a shot at Chuck, and more importantly, to headline a UFC. Rashad has a better resume and is much, much more well known. This fight is a no brainer for the UFC, because whoever wins is in position for a title shot. Rashad may not win, but he’s not the pushover many are making him out to be, and he’s a tougher matchup for Chuck than Thiago Silva would be.
I think this will be a repeat of chuck/tito.
Yep, no way rashad wins this one.
DUDE all Rashads going to do is dance around movin all fast with his hands like a complete FUKIN IDIOT!!! Thats what he does every fight. He hardly likes to stand and brawl with good opponents and instead bounces around and runs all over the place. All i see is Chuck chasing him around for 3 rounds while Rashad tries for a takedown every once in a while. I think Chucks gonna get frustrated with bouncy jackass Rashad and its gonna go 3 rounds for a liddell unanimous decision. mark my words. SHITTY FIGHT!!!
This will be the fight that sends Rashad Evans to 185. Rogan has said that Rashad is smaller than Rich Franklin. I don’t understand why it will take a complete beat down from Liddell for Rashad to move down to 185. Evans should have been fighting at 185 after his draw to Ortiz or after his last fight against Bisping.
“I think this will be a repeat of chuck/tito.”
Not saying that Rashad will absolutely win…however, he brings a better set of tools to the cage than Tito IMHO.
Chuck by KO just about 2-3 minutes in in the first round!
too bad. machida should fight chuck. tito could fight rashad again because the winner wouldnt matter and tito is out anyway. They should scrap the judoku vs. judoku sokodjou fight and give thiago sokoudjou. thats my best case scenario
JUST LIKE HOW CHUCK KNOCKED OUT JARDINE…..OOOH WAIT HE LOST AND RASHAD WHOOPS UP ON JARDINE. ALOT OF YOU GUYS ARE GONNA BE SURPRISED ON WHAT RASHAD IS GONNA DO. I SAY DECSION RASHAD
Can someone explain to me how Rashad “The MOST Boring Fighter in the UFC” Evans will now have headlined two major UFC events? Chuck in Round 1 by brutal KO…
I fully understand the reason that they chose Rashad Evans to be the opponent. He’s very well known to all fans since he was on TUF, he has been in the main event of a ppv before, his style matches up perfectly for a Chuck Liddell KO, the list goes on.
However, I am with you, in that I am dissapointed in the matchup. Sure Rashad Evans is undefeated, by he does not deserve to be in a #1 title match by any means. Seriously, just look at Rashad’s UFC resume in order…
-Defeats Brad Imes by SPLIT Decision to win TUF 2
-Defeats Sam Hoger by SPLIT Decision
-Defeats Stephan Bonnar by MAJORITY Decision
-Then he finally got a KO win, over Jason Lambert
-Followed up with kicking Sean Salmon’s head off
-Then it was the DRAW with Tito Ortiz that was one of the more boring fights of 2007.
-And most recently, he beat MW Michael Bisping by SPLIT Decision.
Rashad Evans is 6-0-1 in the UFC, however, he has only finished 2 of his 7 opponents, and he has NEVER won a UNANIMOUS Decision in the UFC - meaning all 3 judges have never all agreed that he won the fight.
Looking at his last 2 fights, a draw against Tito the Gatekeeper and a split decision win over a MW that isn’t even good, should NOT get you a #1 contender fight. I REALLY hope that if Rashad wins, he does not get a shot at the title. If Chuck and Rampage win (which is about a 99% certainty), then I don’t think has done enough to get a 3rd crack at Rampage.
HAVE YOU PEOPLE LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE LAST YEAR OR SO OF UPSETS? DUH……ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
I believe Chuck is going to knock him out.I dont think he is ready for Chuck. After this fight in my opinion Chuck will need another win to get a title shot.
Rashad Evans by first round submission guranteed

Semi-can? How can you say that? He’s undefeated. Anyone counting out Rashad is foolish.
I think this will be a repeat of chuck/tito.
I was going to say that too. Rashad is Tito 2.0. Good wrestlers with some nice GnP. Both have decent standup, but not even close to Chuck’s. Chuck has proven in the last five years that wrestlers are no problem for him. If Chuck beat Randy and Tito, he will have no problem with Rashad.

Totally agree with you VM. I’m a big fan of Chuck’s but he needs two more wins to get a shot at the title. Machida should get a crack at page if he gets past Tito. Chuck should get Thiago or Jardine(if he beats Wanderlei)after he beats up on Rashad.
Thiago would’ve been tougher for Chuck Liddell. Rashad has the bigger name, which equals more ppv sales.

While I agree that this should not set Rashad up for a title shot with a win but I do feel he deserves to have the chance to fight Chuck and I think this is a good matchup. I think if Rashad wins…the only way he gets a title shot next is if Jardine and Machida both lose their next fights.
Simply put…whether you like him or not…Rashad finds a way to win fights. It may not be exciting and it may involve controversy but he still wins and is undefeated. He’s fought some decent competition in the past and now is the time to put up or shut up for him.
His wrestling is obviously his strength and IF he can take Chuck down…it gives him a chance. I hope he doesn’t settle for the lay n pray and stays active on the ground. The other advantage he has is that he trains with Jardine who’s already beat him. Another point in his favor is that Jackson came up with the game plan for Jardine and it worked so maybe Jackson will have something better up his sleeve having gone through the exercise once already.
I’m tired of people crapping on fighters that win consistantly one way or another but don’t deserve top competition. He’s won 6 times in the UFC…I don’t care who the fighters are or how he won…he still won each of them.
I’m a Rashad fan for sure but I think he might be in over his head fighting a determined Chuck but what the hell…lets see what Rashad is made out of. I know he’s not the most exciting fighter and eeks out a lot of decisions but he’s still fairly young and he has been improving steadily since TUF. Maybe this is the fight where he turns the corner.
Chuck is definitely going to have some serious advantages in this fight. His reach is going to be a huge one along with his striking prowess. Rashad has a solid chin but so have a lot of other fighters Chuck has been in against and he’s broken them. Chuck also has a great sprawl…one of the best…that’s going to frustrate Rashad. Rashad is pretty strong and if he can slam Tito then I know he can do it to Chuck but getting in that close to Chuck is very difficult.
I agree though…as it stands right now…Chuck beats Rashad more times than not but this is a test for Rashad and hopefully he comes prepared.
I’m saying it now, I’m taking Rashad for the upset!!!!!!!!
I like Rashad in this fight, He’s ever improving, and beer-belly is on the downslide. Also, CHuck should be handed these fighters, he’s not getting any better, and he’s lost 2/3. Too bad for Shogun though
Totally agree. Machida and Chuck should be fighting in this one. That would actually be a good, tough fight. But Rashad? Not against Chuck. The Iceman by KO/TKO.
This is a far less appealing fight than Lidell v Shogun. Anyone have any idea how long Shogun is out? Lidell v Machida would be a much better fight also, to bad he is already set to fight Tito. I know this won’t happen, but my best case scenario would be Jardine beating Wandy and getting the next title shot, with Machida & Chuck winning and facing each other for the next in line shot at the title. Sorry Wandy, but you’ve been gettin crushed lately.
How does Rashad have a chance? Do people think he’ll be able to get takedowns or knock him out? I don’t see how he has a chance.

Um…I could see Jardine getting the next title shot, if and only if Griffin beats Rampage. The PPV numbers for Jardine vs. Griffin II will be solid.

I couldnt agree more. This fight shouldnt give Rahad nor Chuck a shot against SLAMpage! Dana is doing everything in his power to try n get Page vs. Chuck 3, which is pretty pointless IMO… Rampage has completely Dominated Chuck, everytime they fought… a 2-2 Record, since the last Rampage fight should not give Chuck another Crack at Page…. Chuck should have to go through Machida(the last person at 205 that chuck and his camp want to face) to get another shot at Rampage! I am not even a big, Machida fan….but Come on, beating Rashad shouldnt be enough to get Chuck Liddell another title shot. Even if he had beaten Shogun, I dont think it would have been enough, but it would be better than beating Rashad.
I too think that Rashad should be fighting at 185 lb. Rashad’s biggets weakness is that he lacks the killer instinct. In order for Rashad to be involved in an exciting main event, he needs to face an agressive opponent that will come after him and force him into a fight. Traditionally, Chuck doesnt like the role of the agressor, he usually prefers to sit back and counterpunch. Against Wanderlei he was more agressive than ever, and he needs to keep up that agression in the fight against Rashad in order for it to be an exciting match for the fans. At the begining of the fight, expect rashad to be star struck, and if Chuck was smart he would jump right on him off the gate. Many of you will respond by telling me that he wont be star struck because he already faced Tito….Well fighting Tito and Fighting Chuck Liddell is not the same. Most of the fighters, like us fans, know that Tito isnt the same fighter he used to be, but when Rashad looks at the other end of the cage and see’s the Iceman, it WILL AFFECT HIM! I hope Chuck comes out agressive, because expect to see Rashad extremely gunshy, especially early in the fight… if Chuck fights like he fought Wandy it will be very exciting…. We will have to wait and see.
Ultimately, I expect Chucks reach advantage, footwork and experience will be too much for Rashad to over come. As Buster Bluth as previously pointed out, a loss may be best for Rashad’s career.
Now the big Question is…..What happens to Tiago Silva? Best case scenario he fights Wilson Gouveia or Sokoudjou!
There’s just so much wrong about this fight, it shouldn’t have happend. But, if Dana can land Fedor, then I won’t even care about this fight anymore, untill that time comes when the winner gets a title shot. Then I’ll remember that they shouldn’t be there and hope that Page tears thier head off…for a third time!
I believe and hope that Chuck annihilates Rashad. I don’t think Rashad is a top tier fighter and he is very boring.

I agree. Nobody wants to see Rashad vs Liddell. I’d love to see Liddell vs Thiago Silva or Machida. Rashad vs Tito rematch isn’t a terrible idea, but their first matched sucked so bad it’s not worth marketing.
WOW NO ONE IS AFRAID OF CHUCK ANYMORE HA HA
Have you all noticed that it is the Brazilian fighters that don’t speak english who the UFC says they don’t draw fans? Lyoto Machida, Thiago Silva, Anderson Silva, I mean having an interpreter there next to you isn’t exactly what fans are drawn to.
WOW NO ONE IS AFRAID OF CHUCK ANYMORE HA HA
nah mate - youd shit your self if the iceman came for you n you know it. The thing is, chuck is the biggest opportunity for any fighter to fight in order to step up the ladder - i dont think even matt hamill would turn the fight down

Luckily at least Nogueira’s English is acceptable and Wanderlei’s english gets better every day! I do agree that fighters that dont speak english take a back seat to fighters on the same level as them that do! I dont like it because I could care less what a fighter says, I just want to see the best fighters BANG-IT-OUT in the octagon.
Anyone ever hear Ninja’s english? I will never forget when they asked him is favorite American singer and Ninja responded: “Lionell Ritchie…” Thats awesome! N inja is a pimp! Shogun dated Adriana Lima until he found out that she is saving herself for marrige. lol

Are you serious?!?! That plan would fail because he would get his ass knocked out. A wrestler trying to out strike a striker is the fastest way to a loss and a concussion. Nice gameplan buddy.
changed my mind i take chuck by 1st or 2nd rnd ko. but im putting money on griffin over rampage call me crazy, then chuck gets back title from griffin. thats how i see it going down
Liddell by KO in the second round. Might even be the first round if Evans thinks he can stand with Liddell.
http://www.ufc-ranking.blogspot.com
I was really looking forward to seeing the Thiago Siva/Rashad Evans fight. Who knows, Evans might have a had a tougher time against Thiago then he will against Chuck.
Rashad Evans by first round submission guranteed
Now that is humorous, flying armbar I’m sure? LOL! Remember you have to take Chuck down to submit him and that is much easier said then done. The more likely outcome is Chuck pulling some Sean Salmon payback on Rashad and cracking him upside the head. I don’t hink Evan’s stand up has progressed enough just yet to hang with Liddell, his best chance is a Jardinesque gameplan and wearing him down and winning in the late rounds via takedowns/lay and pray. If he comes in like a bull charging forward Liddell WILL tap the button and it’s lights out.
Some of you guys are getting carried away, chuck is my favourite fighter but I can see this going to a decision. Rashads only boring cos he doesnt push the pace and doesnt go in for the kill. I feel he could be a threat if he changed his mentality and turned up the heat…… but c’mon chuck!
I have seen the future:
Chuck destroys Rashad. Griffin upsets Rampage. UFC doesn’t want to give Chuck and instant title shot for beating a guy named “Sugar”. So Chuck fights Rampage and redeems himself. Next is the title shot. Chuck dismantles the newly crowned Griffin. Jardine is pissed that he didn’t get the title shot and starts talking crap on Chuck. Liddell defends his title against the Dean of Mean. This time Chuck takes him down and GnP for a TKO. Having regained his title and redeeming his losses, Chuck retires and takes over the Playboy Mansion. In other news: Randy and Dana hug it out, Fedor signs with UFC, and Captain America exposes Fedor.
Those were really, really good brownies.
The big question is….who will be the aggressor? Traditionally Rashad has been Gun shy and Liddell is known for his counter punching. Chuck fought more aggressive than usual against Wanderlei and if he fights like that against Rashad it will push Rashad to fight and make it an exciting match.
Rashad will be star struck early, and If Chuck were smart, he would go right after him as soon as the fight starts, but usually it takes chuck a little while to set up his foot work and get going,
It will all come down to how Rashad is able to deal with Chucks footwork, Reach and experience…..and weather he will be able to over come the mental part of being in there against the UFC’s poster boy in the main event.
There is a big difference between fighting Bisping in a main event and facing the Iceman. How will Rashad deal with it mentally?
Also, I would like to hear everyones oppinion on Rashad’s chin?
chuck should use that picture above for the rest of his career. he’s so ripped throwing that punch they may have swapped in a body-double.

Rashad has a good camp, and great fighters to work around. But the only fighter in Jackson’s camp that has good standup would be GSP, which has a style no where near that of chuck’s Kempo. I dont know how Rashad says “In training I stand up with the best of them” unless he is going out of camp. Jackson does have a great job of developing game plans, as we saw with Jardine and GSP’s last matches. But I dont see Rashad being able to get Chuck down easily (see Sobral fights) and I dont see Rashads flopping handwork doing well. But if we see a Liddell like we did against Jardine, wont work out well for Chuck. I hope he has his fire back by now.

Dont 4get that he also trains with Jardine as well. I hope Rashad drops down to middleweight after this. He would be more effective in that division.

And Rashad is a former HW.. he is a very big LHW, and Im sure his nutrition is down pat, but he would lose a whole lot of strength if he fell to MW. Atleast 10lbs of muscle.
Damn Lidell doesn’t hve a bear gut in that photo in fact he looks more muscular than Sherk
Not really what everyone else is mentioning, but don’t both of those pictures look like they have been Photoshopped so as to make the fighters look more cut? The Chuck one especially.
Damn Lidell doesn’t hve a bear gut in that photo in fact he looks more muscular than Sherk
OK, I just noticed that you mentioned this too.
I know a lot of you are thinking that Liddell will knock Rashad out and that could happen but I don’t think so. Rashad took shots from a beast named Brad Imes who weighted 30 pounds more than Rashad did. I know Chuck hits hard but does he hit harder than a true heavyweight I really don’t think so.
I’m not saying that Rashad beats the Ice man I actually think that Chuck will win by decision. I don’t see him running through Rashad as easy as most of you think. I think this fight will be a lot closer than what most of you think. Plus training with Jardine who holds a victory over the Ice man will make it even closer.
what is the ufc thinking with main event. what do they want another boring ppv? that is what they’re going 2 get with this fight if it is going to be a non-title main event at least get it 2 be a good stand up fight. i think chuck vs houston would be a better main event but he fights james irvin on the next fight night. joe silva you are starting to set up bad fights what is going on with you? come on i’d rather see chuck vs bonner or something like that a guy who is known to stand up and fight and can take alot of punishment. evans stand up sucks and we all know what his plan is takedowns. this is a really stupid fight and i’m glad this fight is not on the fight card for minnesota. if they have dumb fights like this on the minnesota card i might not go. because this fight is a waste of money. how many people do you think can’t want to see this fight. all i’m tring to say is they should get a better main event or name the card U.F.C. 85 WHO THE HELL CARES!
GET UM CHUCK!!!!!!!
WOW NO ONE IS AFRAID OF CHUCK ANYMORE HA HA
you fight him then. i don’t like chuck he is OVER-RATED in my eyes. but to say no one is scared of him is a lie. you would crap yourself if he was behind you. and guess what that means your scared of him.
Thiago would’ve been tougher for Chuck Liddell. Rashad has the bigger name, which equals more ppv sales.
a bigger name that no one wants to here is fighting in a main event.

OK! WHATEVER! your right about evans but chuck is nowhere the best fighter. now anderson silva is my favorite fighter because he is always doing something. chuck is always backing up. i hate fighters like him unless then fight someone that will bring the fight to him. CHUCK IS WAY THE HELL OVER-RATED. like so many of the fighters are. like ficth, edgar, hamill and kongo just to name a few. i could go on and on but i’ll leave it at that. cause the fans of those guys are getting mad for saying this.
i see chuck over rashit, griffin over page, and wandi over jardine. that leaves an opening for wandi to stomp page a third time and boost his morale. face it i see forrest outlasting chuck in that scenario with possibly a sub in the later rounds. after all that then we’ll see what happens.
Rashad is gonna get OWNED big time here highlight reel KO on the way for sure, he’s TINY next to Chuck. OUCH> This will be Rashad’s last LHW fight before a MW drop I think
For all you people out there who don’t think Rashad should be fighting Chuck…give me a better scenario. Rashad is undefeated, had a close draw with Tito that he would have won if it went longer or Tito didn’t grab the fence..who should he be fighting. Chuck is 1-2 in his last 3 fights. Rashad and Chuck is going to be a good fight. Mark it.
–lol, u just happen to be one of those chukie idols and you fear thiago facing chuck dont you????
A tougher matchup then Thiago??? oh, do you say that because rashad couldnt put away bisping, tito etc right? Just in case you forgot, Thiago destroyed two powerful strikers in alexander and sokoudjou so i tougher match up???? i think not~blah
And for the people saying he is boring. He had one of the sickest KO’s by kick to the head I’ve ever seen. He has shown the knock out power, and the talent to be fighting for number one contender in my mind - Sean Salmon Knock Out - Jason Lambert Knock Out - Tito Ortiz Contraversial Draw - Micheal Bisbing - Won by decision. The guy is the real deal. Go Rashad.

thiago would have destroyed evans
Man this fight might not sort out anything in the LHW division, but one things for sure, RASHAD will be off the title ballet for good!!

Chuck should have to go through
