Adam Wagner — one of the talented new writers who we have featured on the site recently — bumped into Josh Koscheck last night after the UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” weigh-in.

Ever the opportunist, Adam requested an interview and “Kos” was cool enough to oblige.

Here it is:

Koscheck will fight Dustin Hazelett tonight in a welterweight bout that is slated for the undercard.

Predictions anyone?

Koscheck…where he was talking about wrestling and fighting Matt Hughes…and then Adam mentioned GSP. He said GSP wasn’t an all american wrestler etc etc. It’s MMA…not jus wrestling…and what GSP did was rape both him and Hughes in MMA and outwrestled BOTH of them.

I hope he really considers a move to 185. Him fighting Leben would be sick, and with 2 wins, he could get a title shot.

His win over Sanchez standing made him think he’s a well rounded fighter…HE’S NOT! If Kos doesn’t go back to the ground game where he’s dominating, he will know he’s lost this fight when he wakes up with a crowd around him.

what he doesnt realize is that GSP never picked up wrestling until he started training mma. thats crazy!!! Gsp has only been training wrestling for about 6 years, kos and hughes have been wrestling since they were 5. Both hughes and kos had a harder time taking gsp down than Gsp had taking them down.

Kos has somehow become the villian in the UFC welterweight divison. I have always hated the guy, but after this interview, I change my mind. Go Kos!

Welterweight division after the top 6 (GSP, Fitch, Kos, Hughes, Karo, Alves) is very weak. It’s probably just a notch above Heavyweight for weakest. Before you start talking Middleweight look at all the names they’ve got in that division now. I think Middleweight is 2nd strongest, LHW 1st and Light then 3rd.

LHW is strongest, then i’d give it to LW, then WW followed closely by MW, and then HW. I agree MW isn’t that thin, they have great fighters, Silva just made it look bad.

I’ve never understood all the “hate on ” for Kos. He’s a well decorated university wrestler, worked his way through university and graduated, coached in Buffalo and “puts himself out there”. I think that he also telegraphed the idea that the UFC will counter EliteXC’s move. That has been my feeling all along. The CBS EliteXC deal may be “yesterday’s news” shortly. I’m sure that the Fertitta’s will not allow themselves to be “one upped” by Shaw et. al.

I’m not to familiar with the television networks in the US so who do you guys reckon the UFC will do a deal with? HBO or Fox? How big is CBS compared to these two?

Kos looked to be in the best shape out of all the fighters at the wiegh in, he probably doesnt have an once of fat on him, His cardio will be unmatched by hazlett.

and hopefully you guys dont have much cash on hazlett because I see kos doing to hazlett what sherk did to franca when franca was supposed to submit him

I think kos will win this fight for sure and i think it will be exciting being that is kos’s last fight on his contract and he wants to put on an impressive performance which will earn him more money on his next contract. I also still dont see how he goes from a number one contender fight to undercard.

I can’t stand koscheck but to give him his dues, that was a mature and humble interview. With that attitude he could progress in a positive way in and out of the octagon. I think the negative response he has gotten from the fight fans has mentally taken a toll on him. It would be better for him to lose the bad guy image he has, he doesn’t wear it well.

A fight against hughes could be a very interesting prospect although I think that fight would have to wait until after hughes and serra have fought. The animosity between hughes and serra could lead to one of the most exciting fight spectacles of the year. A koscheck v hughes fight would not provide the same level of entertainment.

Did you hear me say “I don’t watch fights I have better things to do”. if it wasn’t for us watching your fights you would have a career, and your fights aren’t even worth watching. GSP will beat you on your best day and him on his worst day.

KOS will always be a second tier fighter, and will always be a boring fighter.

-Boss

Well put, kos is the man

Kos went three full rounds with gsp after training mma for only a couple of years and not having any really big fights. Jason Miller, Penn, Karo Pariyson were able to go three rounds with gsp after doing mma and having big fights for many many years. sherk, hughes, trigg, heiron couldnt go 3 rounds with GSP and all 3 of those guys are bad asses.

SO how does KOS suck?

I met Kos during this interview and I have to say prior to meeting him i wasn’t really impressed with his attitude - i have to take it all back - he was a stand-up guy and I was happy and proud to be cheering him after his victory.

hey there matt, the reason josh koscheck was a preliminary fight @ ufc 82 was because it was his last fight on his contract, all the fighters that were in the preliminary’s it was their last fight on their contracts, and yes u r very right josh did want to impress Dana White, and the owners of the ufc for a new contract and for more $$$ ,and if i’m not mistaken alot of others fighters r wanting more $$$$$ also.
