Lets face it, in most world rankings, the UFC lightweight fighters dont get much respect. Sending a UFC lightweight over to Japan to upset some of those highly Ranked lightweights would be great for the UFC.

In the world rankings, out of all the divisions, the UFC has the least amount of top ten fighters in the lightweight division. This is the perfect opportunity to gain some world wide respect for the UFC lightweight division!

Edgar or Stevenson would have a great shot at winning the grand prix because of their wrestling. Can u imagine them fighting Japan where knees to the head (on the ground) are allowed? They could seriously bust some heads with Knees to the head added to their outstanding wrestling and submissions.

That is awesome! I am very happy to arleady see EliteXC and DREAM working together, in DREAM's first ever event nonetheless. The flood gates of cross-promoting are now open and the UFC wants no part of it.

Cro Cop went over to fight a couple of bums to build up his confidence and put together a winning streak. Cro Cop vs Kimbo, anybody?

Back to Alvarez, his fight in ShoXC was the first time I had ever seen him fight (I don't watch BoDog fight) and he has very fast hands. Is this DREAM event going to be available to watch live here in the US, ie, is it going to be on PPV, or viewable over the web?
I am estatic about this whole thread. The only thing that would make this tournament better would be Takanori Gomi. Also if I were the UFC, I would consider sending a lightweight representative over to Japan to represent the UFC in the Grand Prix. I am not saying to send over BJ or Sean Sherk, but they could send over a tough American wrestler like Edgar who has the ability to win it all. I think its a bad idea for the UFC to just sit back and watch such an amazing lightweight tournament and not send over 1 of its fighters.

VM: I am wondering the same thing...will it be ob pay per view? TV? Web? will the DVD be released in America? I would appreciate it if anyone has any answers to these question.
this is a awsome event and i agree with you john the ufc would be smart to send one of there l.w. over to compete in it.edgar would be a great choice i think he could do well in it and only make the ufc look better.
I thought Edgar would be a good choice because he is tough as nails. he is a big wrestler for a lightweight who will be big and strong because many of the fighters in the tournament dont cut weight. Also he is booked to fight Maynard, who I am a fan of but is a step down in competition for Edgar. Might as well scratch the Edgar/Maynard fight and send Edgar to Japan. He is very skilled at everything, would be one of the bigger and stronger fighters in the tournament and he is very mentally tough.

Another good choice for a UFC representative would be Joe Daddy stevenson. He just lost his title shot, so he has to climb back up the latter, why not send him over there to pound a couple dudes out?
I'm starting to wonder why the heck did the UFC brass even buy Pride. After the buy out, they weren't able to secure all of Pride's top horses. Sure the UFC now owns Pride's banner, history, marketing, etc. Bu what use was it when Pride's top fighter, Fedor, didn't come with the package.

Mix these upstart promotions getting together and creating good fightcards, plus the discontent of UFC fighters' contracts, and top name fighters not signing with the UFC = shakey times 'inside the octagon'.
i due think the ufc got burned on that one, they have the name and tapes got a few fighters but it seems pride is starting back up under a different name and once contracts are up fighters will go where they want, alot will stay in the ufc but some might just head back to japan.

The sad thing is, I could see Fedor taking that fight.
But it wouldn't happen.
