mannn what a tough fight to pick i think ive changed my bet back n forth 7 times already
hey mania,
who u guys pickn to win this one?
I really think he’s underestimating Silva. Anderson’s going to get him in the clinch and Dan is going to be surprised with how strong he is there.

I’m taking Henderson. And if he loses it’s the very last time I’m ever going against Silva. Ever.
Does the ufc take care of their fighters? Come on Henderson tell the truth. Everyone is so afraid that Dana White is going to black ball them.

yea same here
I love Henderson. I really he wins this fight, if not just to shut up the “Silva is the best fighter in the world” talk.
I agree with everything here, this is a huge fight and an important one, if dan wins everything is on the loose if silva wins verything will be kinda dull, kinda like te chuck reign in the lhw.

Yeah hes gonna be amazed even, right before he slams him onto the floor and pounds his face in.
Khaos_Warrior: Can you please use this handle going forward. We have another “john” on the site and it creates some confusion. Thanks buddy … appreciate it. –Mania
I have never seen Silva winning this fight when I think about what he has to do to beat Henderson. I see Henderson winning really quick (Haymaker), or in the 3rd (GnP).
I am with you Mania - if Anderson Silva wins this won I will never go against him.
My vision is:
- Dan Henderson beat Silva
- Travis Lutter submits Franklin
- Silva fights Lutter and loses
- Dan Henderson beats Wanderlei Silva in a rematch
- Dan Henderson fights Travis Lutter

I second that. If Silva beats Henderson… he is pound for pound #1.

I got Silva by 1st round KO. Yes, Henderson has a great jaw and great wrestling. But Silva is that good. I can picture Henderson winning, but this is how I truly believe it will go down. Henderson’s going to be cocky thinking he’s stronger and can get past the clinch and he’s going to get his face rearranged.

He’s talked about moving up or down in weight.
Silva is an awesome fighter, no doubt, but if he’s going to win this I can’t see it coming via the Muay Thai clinch. I suspect that if Silva attempts that then Henderson will move in and take his own clinch. I’m a Henderson fan so I’m biased but as I think about it it’s hard for me to pick a method in which he would lose, other than making a mistake and falling into a submission like Lutter did. If I recall correctly Lutter was holding his own up to that point, only I see Henderson as being better at submission defense. Rampage couldn’t knock him out and I’m sure he delivers a more powerful blow than Silva. But with all that said, I don’t suppose I’d be surprised regardless of who wins. This fight is something I’m really excited about….a true clash of the titans.
I’d like to see Silva cut through Hendo, just to see him move up and fight the likes Liddell, or Wandy, or just about anyone else in LHW.
Hendo is a SAVAGE! He is not , Leben, Lutter, or “ACE & GARY” Franklin. He will tie Silva up and obliterate Silva. No one has tested Silva’s chin like Hendo will. Hendo ‘could’ in theory destroy most 205′ers, I mean Wandy check, Rampage…almost until the last round when Rampage’s strength wore him down, they were neck and neck. He could ‘probably’ handle Liddell (which should be a fight in his cards down the pipeline…”King of Cali” card)…and when Hendo takes Andersen out, the middle weight division should just retire, they’re won’t be any road block for Hendo.
Man, this fight it too tough for me to call. I’m really expecting to see Henderson win, but dammit, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Silva work his magic. I think I really agree with Mainia: If Silva wins I’ll never bet against him again…
TomsBomns - I can see the appeal in seeing him move out of the weight class to take on some new talent.
However, if he gets past Henderson the one person I would love to see him fight would be Georges St Pierre. That would be amazing to see.

My thinking exactly!!! Henderson in no more than 2, or I will never bet against Silva either!

Well said. Everyone is so on silva’s jock they dont see anyone beating him. When hendo beats him then everyones gonna be on his. thats how all all these bloggers are.

They just need someone to jock!!!!!!!!!!
Silva is gonna win GUARANTEED!!! It’s not only the clinch but his SPEED and PRECISION STRIKES will defeat Hendo. If this fight goes on the ground, gnp may happen to Silva but don’t forget he’s a BJJ jiu jitsu master. He’s long so will have some control on the ground. Henderson is somewhat sluggish, slower compared to Silva. Got submitted by the Nogueira twins and a few others. Henderson has heart no doubt but so does Silva. Anyways, we shall see March 1st.
Have a nice day.
i love how everyone doubts silva.. you all forget that he cleaned out the Cage rage… and now that he is in the ufc he is cleaning out the entire division…. Henderson is good, but if you watch his fights the way he comes out in his stand up he is all over the place… almost like chris leben… he leaves his hands out alot and silva can take full advantage on that…. i hope silva wins because then he can retire out of middle weight..and move up to LHW…. THEN your gonna see some real action… him vs wanderli silva!! they even talked about fighting each other before.. or even him against sho gun…
Honestly…this could be the best ‘matchup’ made in 2008. Maybe best fight, I just don’t cant see Silva being strong enough to get the Muy Thai clinch on Hendo’s neck. Hendo is ox strong. he’s probably got the grip of 10 men and ‘when’he grabs Silva’s lankiness thats that. Besides Silva hasn’t seen a jaw this solid. You could drop refrigerators off the Empire State Building on Hendo’s head and they’d just break in two! Enjoy the fight Saturday everybody, I know I will!

i totally agree bro! everyone is all ‘hendo this and hendo that.’ all i know silva is going to win. sure rampage couldn’t knock hendo out, but i think silva is a better striker than rampage. strenght isn’t everything, remember accuracy is more important.
–oh and bro, when u say BJJ, u don’t need to put jiu-jitsu after it.
Holy crap is this a hard one to pick! Henderson has never been knocked out. So if he loses, it should be by submission or decision. Then again, if anybody can knock him out it’s Spider!

Whose the MMAMANIA reader who get’s to pick the winners?
This Fight Is Gonna Amazing. Its Gonna Be One Of Those Ones That Get Your Palms Sweating And Your Heart Racing.
spinning backfist for the kncockout in round one, but from who?

I really hope so. I hope the fight lives up to the hype.
this is completely unrelated but holy crap mania, did u see that floyd mayweather is “fighting” in the WWE soon?
I pick Dan No Fear Henderson to win this one. I hope he does, losing 2 titles in 2 fights would suck. At the same time it would be a shame to lose Silva as the Champ as he’s a breathing highlight reel, but i think it would be more likely to set up the rematch that way which would be decent, i somehow don’t think just 1 fight with these two is gonna be enough : )
I think if dan loses he may go back up to 205. On the bright side, he may have a fight with Chuck at 205, I’d really like to see Dan Vs Chuck one day, or am i dreaming

I feel the same way about a possible move in weight class for Silva if he cleans out 185. GSP was also the first opponent that came to mind for a great match-up.
As far as this week-end goes. I agree with you all this fight is one for the ages. I don’t see it going 5 rounds. 3 rounds at he most. I have have this weird feeling like it might be an unexpected win…like Hendo by submission or Silva by GNP.
I’m gonna say Silva in the 2nd or 3rd.
Hendo wins this fight. He has an iron chin, a right hand from hell, and he can hang with silva from the clinch. I can’t wait!
Some of us are getting a little ahead of ourselves. Talking about a Spider vs. GSP fight is a dream right now because GSP has a lot of WWs to take care of before even thinking about fighting a MW. A lot of things would have to fall into place for that to even be a possibility. But this fight (Spider vs. Hendo) is one of those fights that gets us so excited that we get fight drunk and start talking about make-believe fights like little children. It’s like us getting to watch Ryu (from Street Fighter) fight Hahumaru (from Samurai Showdown) and we’re already talking about the winner to go and fight a couple of the Mortal Kombat fighters.
Dan Henderson seems to have the right attitude going into this fight, meaning that he is fealing confident. There is no way that anybody can say that Rich Franklin (the 2nd time), a dehydrated Travis Lutter, or Nate “The Un-Great, although looking better as of late” Marquardt were fealing confident prior to stepping into the cage with Anderson Silva.
However, being a Hendo fan, he did say a couple of things in that interview that made me a little nervous. When he was talking about his striking to Anderson’s striking, he said that he hits harder, but Anderson Silva is for sure the more technical striker. Then we he was talking about fighter guys from bigger weight classes the weight/strength advantage never really mattered to him because technique makes up for strength. So putting those two statements together, one would conclude that the more technical fighter would win. But, he only said that Anderson was more technical at striking, he did not say that Anderson is a more technical fighter. Although, outside of wrestling and GnP, was is Dan more technical than Anderson?
Then when they were talking about his infamous iron chin, Dan said that its more of a matter of not geting hit in the right spot than having an iron chin. Well…. Anderson Silva is argueably the most accurate striker in all of mma - he has nearly pin point accuracy. Dan is going to HAVE to keep his head moving in this fight, but that is not something that Dan does consistantly.
The last thing that has me worried is the cage-experience factor. He said that he is “good”, but also admitted that he will learn more as he gains the experience. He also admitted to stepping on the fence and tripping a couple of times against Rampage. Not only has Anderson had 5 UFC fights, but he also had a few fights in Cage Rage, wich obviously take place in a cage as well.

Great Analysis! Henderson doesnt have the best head movement when it comes to striking. He has to come into this fight vastly improved in that department because if not, Silva will pick him apart.
Hendo likes to wind up and throw Haymakers, problem with that is he may eat 4 strikes in the process. Anderson doesnt look like a strong guy, but I feel that he is. In his first fight vs. Franklin, he was expected to get bullied by the stronger Franklin….. We all know how that turned out. I feel that Silva posses the kind of “weiry” strength that Hendo is so famous for.
Neither fighter has ever been KO. What a showdown. I think the biggest battle of this fight will take place in the clinch. Its going to be Henderson’s Greco Roman Clinch (based on under and over hooks) vs. Anderson Silva’s legendary Tai Clinch (hands around the back of the neck). I have a feeling that whoever wins the clinch battle will probably win this fight.
As for a prediction…..who the hell knows? I predict that it will be one of the greatest UFC matches ever seen. Both Silva and Hendo are 2 of my favorite fighters, and I hate to root against either of them. I kind of hope that Anderson wins this fight.
Hear me out:
Anderson Silva has been the perfect UFC champion. All his fights have been very exciting and no one has ever made it to round 3 against Silva in the UFC. He is the most exciting champion that the UFC has. If it ain’t Broke, then why fix it?
I really hope Silva continues to represent the UFC middleweight division.
As for Hendo, he too would make a wonderful UFC champion, but Hendo is what I like to call a “WILDCARD”. What I mean by that is he is one of the best fighters in the world capable of jumping around between the MW and LHW divisions challenging the best at both divisions, so I dont want to see him locked in to the Middleweight division, which is exactly what would happen if he were to become champion.
I dont want to see him win the title because I still want to see him face a lot of top dogs at 205 lb and 185 lb:
Henderson vs. Wanderlei III (Luckily this fight could probably take place at either MW or LHW)
Henderson vs. Liddell
Henderson vs. Shogun
Henderon vs. Rich Franklin
I have a feeling that this will instantly become one of the top 5 greatest fights ever to have taken place inside of the UFC Octagon
I would have to agree with Violent Mike and Johns last couple of blogs. This is going to be a great fight and a tough one to call.
If Henderson wins I would like to see Franklin fight Henderson for the title. I think that Franklin matches up much better against Henderson than Silva obviously. He also has never fought Henderson so his confidence should be high.
I still think that Franklin is a great fighter it is just that Silva is his kryptonite. I don’t see Franklin losing to Lutter. I have a feeling Franklin will stop the fight in the first or second round via GNP.
In the Middleweight Division Silva reigns supreme but then I would have to say that Franklin is the next one on the ladder. He can beat everyone else in that division it just so happens that one of the best fighters in the world is there as well. It is similar to GSP and Matt Hughes at WW.
This may sound a little bit contradictory but I am going to go with Henderson via unanimous decision this weekend. The previous statements were made because Henderson has yet to fight at the 185 lb division in the UFC. I think that if Hendo stays at 185 then the MW rankings will have to wait until we see how things play out this weekend.
Silva hasnt even been tested in the ufc yet. This is by far his toughest test yet. That being said I believe he will win by tko and there will probably be a rematch in late fall no matter who wins unless it is a quick stoppage which I doubt it will be.
I’d prefer to see a Henderson win just to mix up the whole division and casue the dude’s an animal, well I suppose that’s not makin any sense cause obviously so is Silva
But I don’t see Henderson underestimating Silva at all, he’s already fought the big names and done well obviously i.e Wanderlei & Jackson
At the start of that interview they called him Pride Welterweight champion, is that right Mania?
At the start of that interview they called him Pride Welterweight champion, is that right
Yes, in Pride WW was 183 lbs and MW was 205

He is the Pride welterweight champion because in PRIDE: welterweight division = UFC Middleweight division
Middleweight division = UFC’ Light heavyweight division
There was no 170 lb division in Pride

No matter who wins this fight, the Saga will not be over. I expect Silva and Hendo fighting each other at least twice, three times if they each get a win against the other in the 1st 2 fights.
I have no doubt that this will not be the only time we get to see Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson in the UFC.
Down the road I do want to see Henderson face Rich Franklin, Wanderlei for a 3rd time and I really want to see him face Chuck Liddell, thats the only reason I do not want him to win the title because it will limit what division he fights in.
Cheers for that, I always just assumed they were the same
Thanks again

But if Henderson were to lose to Silva, and then lose to Wanderlei in a rubber match, he would be 0-3 in the UFC. Would a Hendo vs Liddell fight even be marketable at that point??? I know that all the hardcore fans would love to see it, but all the UFC only fans wouldn’t.
- Silva fights Lutter and loses
This is the funniest quote that I have seen on this forum so far.
I think Silva will win this even though I can also see Henderson taking it. Its a tough one but ive said it many times over, its going to be similar to the Silva vs Murray fight in 2004. Silva by decision. I cant see anyone of them being knocked out or submitted.
ummm…dan is the middleweight pride champion not the welter weight

He doesnt have to face those guys in that order. He can fight a couple lesser opponents in between fights to boost his record so that the UFC can still market him to the fans who dont know him.
If he looses to Silva, he can beat up on Franklin and then fight Wanderlei because as much as I want to see Franklin vs. Hendo, I dont think Franklin would stand a chance against him.
Or he can fight and beat lutter, Marquardt, Cote in between fights so that he will be always floating around the top 10 in the minds of the casual us fans. Us die hards would pay to see fighters like Hendo and Wanderlei no matter what kind of a loosing streak they are on…. Kind of like Clay Guida!

That one contradiction stood out when I heard it as well, (Technique > strength)
As a big henderson fan as well Im worried he presses to hard with some wild haymaykers and as one of those huge right hands throw him off balance for just one second silva counters with one of thos devestating knees to the bottom of dans chin.
and when I saw silva throwing knees as he was shadow boxing in the countdown show it was impressive how high he is able to get those knees he can almost hit his own chin with his knee
I think henderson wins this one. He has all the tools to be a big problems for silva, silva’s never faced a wrestler like hendo, I feel hendo’s going to expose silva.
However wins this one is going to be ustoppable.
henderson has beaten several top guys in a higher weight group, or at least gone toe to toe with them.
can you really imgine silva fightig wandy or rampage etc?
i know its not all about strength (henderson even says that himself), but compare the strength of rampage (who henderson went toe to toe with), to silva.
i’d like to see silva move up a weight class - although he looks like he’d struggle to get the mass/muscle to do so.
JJ - only time will tell buddy, time will tell.

Liddell ain’t no Anderson Silva. Silva by embarrassing KO in 30 seconds due to Chuck not keeping his hands up.
