Strikeforce at the Dome

Don’t forget, tonight at 7:30 pm on HDNET you can see Bob Sapp make his MMA debut in the United States — Strikeforce and Bodog Fight will be cross promoting the show called Strikeforce: “At the Dome.”

Sapp, 6′5″ 350 pounds, takes on Jan “The Giant” Nortje who is no small man himself, standing at 6′11″ and weighing around 330 pounds, in the main event of the night. If you like knockouts, you’ll want to check this fight out for sure.

UFC veteran Joe “Diesel” Riggs (27-9) will also be fighting on the card, fighting up and comer Cory Devela (7-1) in a middleweight scrap.

Riggs knocked out Eugene Jackson in his last fight at a Strikeforce show at the Playboy mansion in September of last year. Devela’s lone loss was to Ed Herman back in 2004 and he seems to have a very good submission game and should give Diesel a run for his money.

The other fights on the card include:

  • Maurice Smith vs. Rick Roufus at heavyweight
  • Lyle Beerbohm vs. Ray Perales at 170 lbs.
  • Steve Berger vs. Eddy Ellis at 170 lbs.
  • Jorge Masvidal vs. Ryan Healy at 160 lbs.
  • Andrew Pedersen vs. Mychal Clark at heavyweight.
  • Zach Skinner vs. Scott Shaffer at 145 lbs.
  • Nathan Coy vs. Dave Courchaine at 170 lbs.

It should be worth a look if for nothing else other than to watch Sapp try and knock somebody out. He’ll be looking to win impressively in his first fight in the U.S in front of a hometown crowd.

Quick results after the jump.

  • Jan Nortje defeats Bob Sapp via technical knockout (strikes) in round one.
  • Cory Devela defeats Joe Riggs via submission (throw) in round one [Note that Riggs was injured as a result of the move].
  • Maurice Smith defeats Rick Roufus via submission (kimura) in round one.
  • Lyle Beerbohm defeats Ray Perales via submission (guillotine choke) in round two.
  • Eddy Ellis defeats Steve Berger via unanimous decision.
  • Jorge Masvidal defeats Ryan Healy via unanimous decision.
  • Mychal Clark defeats Andrew Pedersen via technical knockout (doctor stoppage) in round two.
  • Zach Skinner defeats Scott Shaffer via unanimous decision
  • Nathan Coy defeats Dave Courchaine via knockout in round one.

I Hate Bob Sapp. He’s a terrible fighter with bad sportsmanship. He dosn’t have any skill or talent apart from size, this video explains better than i can - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giJxnhvK2js

Gotta love the Sapp excuse at the end - “Hamstring buckled under me”. If only they allowed soccer kicks, i would have loved to see him in a fetal position getting stomped on like fujita did to him.

Sign Sapp up for one SHW fight in the UFC and let Lesnar retire him. Hahahaha. Would never happen because they don’t do superheavys, but it would be funny. Could the octagon contain those two if they crahed into the fence???

Bob Sapp is a really bad fighter. He has nothing to offer, just his size, build and staredown, other then that he’s a circus clown.. i mean jesus… anybody wanna see him fight ? geez i think he should work in a slaughterhouse, he would look good holding a butcher’s knife :Þ

The lights went out both literally and figuratively during the best fight of the night: when Nathan Coy knocked out Dave Courchaine. Strike Force should’ve given more respect to this up and comer!

Sapp ran away from Jan like a little girl turning his head and running.Bob Sapp just sucked this was a crappy card. The MFC card the night before on HDNet from Edmonton was better. Jesse Forbes vs Chris Camozzi had to be one of the best comeback fights I have ever seen. Ryan Ford vs Pete Spratt was a good fight but not without some controversy.

What was the controversy in the Spratt fight. I watched it but I was hammered and can’t remember what happened.

Did andbody see “Fancy Pants” fight on this one? He looked pretty solid. That was the one bright spot on this card.

I actually threw a small party for this live event as it provided some good entertainment without having to pay $60 for PPV. Everyone that criticizes this event needs to realize the amount of entertainment being offered on a basic station. HDNet is now my favorite channel since they have included fighting and live concerts. This is just the beginning for Strikeforce and HDNet, so I’m excited to see what comes.

Overall, I was disappointed in the Sapp fight, but thought Devela put on a good (but short) fight against Riggs. I’ll take an average Strikeforce or MMA event over professional boxing anyday…… At least if you don’t like particular fighters, you don’t have to sit through 12 rounds before the next fight. Only 3 and most of the time, it’s less.
