Silva - submission 3rd round

I want to say Silva and Kongo will win because they are both tall, lanky-ish (Kongo is pretty ripped), techinical stand-up fighters, which I like…and I can’t freakin’ stand Herring…and Silva has good BJJ, but I just think Hendo is going to be able to neutralize Silva’s weapons and manage a decision based on neutralizing his weapons…Randy Couture style…pushed up against the fence, pinned to the ground, etc…I really think the same thing with Herring/Kongo. I think Okami is going to underestimate Tanner, and if a re-match happened after this fight, Okami would win, but Tanner is going to surprise him and win I think. I think Sakara will wait out leben’s “I’m-mad-fighting-tantrum” style and put him on the mat. Everything else is pretty standard. Jake O’Brien isn’t going to be able to beat Arlovski, Sanchez and Kos are both going to bring home vics…

Nope. I’m pulling for Silva. I like both of them, but Silva is the more exciting fighter. Pure strikers like Silva don’t come along very often.

Hendo is a good guy and a gritty fighter, but his style isn’t as entertaining. I like great wrestlers, but not as much as great strikers.

It completely make up for it. IT is a pure karate elbow. He actually takes the time to bring the hand across of his face, puts it in the chamber, and then shoots it out. Text book movement for movement elbow. He does the whole motionso quickly to. Blink and you miss it. Fryklund is not great by any means but that fact that Silva pulled it off on an experienced fighter is testement to how great of a striker he is. Go Silva !!!!!![/quote]
You guys make some great points but you cannot compare the punching power of Fry to henderson’s. Hendo packs another 15-25 lbs of power behind his punches. So if spider gets in close with hendo and thinks he is going to be able to take the punches to the head like he did against Fry, he will be looking up at the ceiling in no time. Hendo by Tko round 2!

I think that the best bet available for the UFC 82 card is: Arlovski!

Arlovski hasnt looked impressive in some time now, but this will be his last chance to increase his value for the up coming negotiations of the mma free agent market. In all sports we see athletes who our approaching their “contract year” usually always perform at a higher level. Its only natural that an athlete is more motivated when its time to re-negotiate a contarct.

With that said, I think Arlovski is a sure bet. O’brien is a tough guy, but lets face it….If Arlovski performs up to 1/2 of his potential he should have no trouble defeating Jake.

If we are ever to see the “old Arlovski” back in action, this will be the fight were he shows up. This is his last opportunity to gain some leverage during his up coming contractual negotiations…..and we all know Andre loves his money.

I am not a fan on betting on huge favorites, but if I had to bet on 2 favorites I would go with Arlovski and Fitch.

Arlovski for the above mentioned reasons and I say Fitch is a good pick because he is a very Focused and mentally tough fighter, who is very close to a title shot, and I do not think Chris Wilson will be Game enough to take that away from him. Make no mistake about it, Wilson is a solid fighter who is here to stay, and I think he would have a great shot at an upset against a lot of WW, but not the mentally tough Fitch.[/quote]

I don’t think Arlovski is as much of a lock as you say he is.

It’s true he is in the last fight of his contract and he should be very motivated. However, it’s been a long time since he faced a strong wrestler who wanted to take him down and pound/lay on him for 3 rounds. He is clearly far more talented than O’Brien, but if he can’t stop the takedown I don’t think it’ll matter because I don’t see him pulling off a submission from his back. He hasn’t submitted anyone in 3 years (and the submission on Sylvia came from the top position too). I think he should definitely be the favorite, but I also think O’Brien has a decent shot at pulling off a boring decision upset.[/quote]

U make some great points that I do respect. But Obrien has never faced anyone close to the ability of what Arlovski posseses. Andre will find away to win this fight. Arlovski is well versed in Sambo so he is very capable of handling himself on the ground. Fights always start standing, and the old Arlovski would have just blown right through O’brien and if anything close to the old Arlovski shows up, this fight should end quickly.

Anderson is not nearly as reckless as Wanderlei and that is why is is much less likely to get caught. Hendo will put up a good fight but I expect him to get caught, hurt and then get KO’d… The Spider is just too hot right now.
