I sure hope we get to see the AA fight since its not on the main card. I also hope they show the Sanchez fight. Love or hate him he always comes to fight (except for when he fought Kos). Who wants to see Herring on the main card!? Can’t wait to see the Spider vs Henderson. I believe this is the first time we will see the Spider truly tested.
Kos/Hazelett is the fight that I want to see make it on to the PPV the most. Plus I got money on it, so of course I’d prefer to watch the fight…
Wow… Sanchez in the under card! I would have to agree with brac - he always puts on a good fight. But damn I hate the guy.
I’m interested in the AA fight also. Isn’t it the last one on his contract? Guess we can catch it on one of the UFC Unleashed shows in about 6 months.
I agree, the Herring fight should be an undercard. Since when is Sanchez and Kos undercards while Leben is televised? Man how times have changed. I am going to pay my 45 bucks just to see Hendo beat Silva then pay another 45 bones to watch Wandi beat Silva down to the 170s.
Every time i look at this card i have to rub my eyes, IT IS STACKED!
I can’t believe the UFC would hold an event with Sanchez, Koschek, Arlovski on the undercard. UFC.com the next day then.
Totally agree with you here Mike, seeing the Kos\Hazlett fight is 10 times more interesting to me than the Herring\Kongo fight, especially with the scary thought of Kongo actually being in the position to get a title shot in case of a win…
Whilt it’s going to be a great card with an outstanding main event, UFN13 and UFC84 are ALOT more exicing to me, but then again, what do I know?
Great card, even the undercard for this is fantastic. Seems to be a new unofficial precident the UFC are setting with 10 fights per card now (12 for the UFN!)
I wish the UFC would stop marketing people as the PRIDE champions though - It doesn’t actually mean anything anymore.
The Crippler is badass. I hope Leben’s iron jaw gets him through this one, he’s going to need it…….bring on the slugfest.
Pathetic that we may not see the Arlovski fight live.
Hopefully Arlovski’s fight is fast, and the main card fights are pretty fast, then we can watch him fight.
Hopefully Arlovski’s fight is fast, and the main card fights are pretty fast, then we can watch him fight.
I don’t see it mattering if his fight is quick or not if the UFC isn’t going to resign him. I don’t think they’ll show his fight if he’s about to walk because they don’t want to give him more publicity on his way out. That’s why they set him up against Jake O’Brien, they’re hoping he gets LNP’d for three rounds en route to a boring decision loss.
None of the other promotions can get even close to creating a card like this. It’s going to be a great night. Almost every fight is a must see. I can’t wait.
arlovski is gonn knock obrians block off!!
Pathetic that we may not see the Arlovski fight live.
-Its clear everyone agrees that we should be watching AA along w diego and possibly KOS , though i would leave kongo in there instead of KOS since i do feel kongo might b a little more exciting… why they are undercards is beyond me, even if AA is leaving!
I’d be interested to see if Leben get’s in to a slug fest with Sakara.
We all know Leben likes to get in there and bang a little but remember this post and think to Leben’s “renaissance”
Leben may walk to the ring, look like he is there to bang and get a takedown and look for a sub or some gnp to a sub.
This is where Sakara is weak and Leben has more experience.
Pretty sure Leben will respect Sakara as the more technical puncher and work other areas of the game.
I also expect Leben to look ripped with good cardio and with more tattooing.
I beleive Leben know’s he is a “can” or “gatekeeper” and is proud of his position and want’s to keep it and do a good job.
A can like Leben can make some good money and get some pretty hot chicks. Who needs a title shot or a belt anyway?
I think Leben takes it with a unanimous decision or a late stoppage.
Nice cards lately. UFC needs to advertise more because they are going to pull so many fans in. I normally show up at Buffalo Wild Wings 15 minutes before the first fight, and UFC 81 i tried to pull that off, and I was one of about 40 people that stood to watch the event because it was so packed. Granted i live in Minnesota(Brock’s home state) but bringing him in, and maybe even Kimbo(I highly doubt he’d be very successful) would add a ton of fans. The sport is getting Huge :D. If the next TUF is good i think that MMA could become a great contender for the #2 sport in America(behind football) and maybe land a show on CBS, FOX, or NBC or something.
p.s. 3 hours of UFN 13!!! omfg that’s gonna be so awesome. The least interesting fight is Tommy Speer, and i’m kinda a fan of him anyways him being a hometown fighter.
This non televised shit is bullshit. Also, can anyone tell me how the fuck Jorge Gurgel and Heath Herring keep getting fights?
Silva - 2nd round tko
Kongo - 3rd round tko
Okami - decision
Fitch - 1st round tko
Leben - 3rd round tko
AA - 1st round tko
Cummo - decision
Koscheck - decision
Diego - 1st round sub
Gurgel - decision
These are my predictions. Feel free to question them all.
Kongo - 3rd round tko
I’m pretty sure that one is going the distance. Maybe I’m crazy but I think Kongo is more of a technical striker than a power striker, he can do damage (like breaking cro cops ribs) but I just don’t think he can finish Herring.
The Crippler is badass. I hope Leben’s iron jaw gets him through this one, he’s going to need it…….bring on the slugfest.
iron jaw dont u mean glass jaw leben is a joke he should go fight in the wec or sum other joke place
silvia in 2 rounds, I dont think so,he not fighting somebody with a glass chin like franklin ,hindo will definately land his right hand and we all now who will when the wrestling match, henderson is a tough and strong fighter and the only one that can beat silvia in the middle weight div. right now

If u want Leben gone; u must want to get rid of anyone he’s beaten too, right?

Why is he a joke? He’s beaten many other UFC fighters.

I think your wrong about the silvia fight, henderson is no rich franklin
This non televised shit is bullshit. Also, can anyone tell me how the fuck Jorge Gurgel and Heath Herring keep getting fights?
Jorge Gurgel does because he is from Ohio, and all of his previous fights have been on the undercards of the Ohio PPV’s. And its also to please his one and only fan, Mr. NC-17.
I liked Jorge when he was on TUF, but after the show he became SUPER cocky and thought that he could stand and bang with anyone. Sorry lil’ guy, but your a BJJ fighter, take the fight to the ground and get yourself a W.
When I first heard of this main event I thought for sure that Dan would pound silva into a tko stoppage.
But after analysing some of hendersons more recent fights I am not so sure anymore. His loss to misaki seemed like his cardio wasnt there and didnt have that power behind his shots and was effected by the leg kick
His win over belfort was even more discouraging he was controling belfort in a high side mount for almost half of the fight which is one of the best positions for a fighter to have and was not able to finish the infamously gassed belfort.
Everyone knows about the rampage fight and he simply was out worked by rampage.
With the exception of the silva knockout dangerous Dan has not been that dangerous lately. I now definitely feel that Dan is the big underdog going into this fight cant wait to see it at a friends house cause ther is no way in hell im paying $45
Main Event:
Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson = Silva by KO in 1R.
Main card (televised):
Cheick Kongo vs. Heath Herring = Herring by Decision.
Alessio Sakara vs. Chris Leben = Sakara by KO in R2.
Evan Tanner vs. Yushin Okami = Okami by Decision.
Jon Fitch vs. Chris Wilson = Fitch by Sub in R1.
Under card (may not be broadcast):
Andrei Arlovski vs. Jake O’Brien = O’Brien by KO in R2.
Luke Cummo vs. Luigi Fioravanti = Cummo by KO in R1.
Josh Koscheck vs. Dustin Hazelett = Koscheck by Sub in R2.
Diego Sanchez vs. David Bielkheden = Sanchez by Decision.
Jorge Gurgel vs. John Halverson = Gurgel by KO in R3.
Well, the undercard is huge… too bad they’re not going to broadcast some of them.
I’m not a fan of Arlovski though I wonder what the hell he’s doing on the under card???
For the most part, the undercard is better to watch than the main card. They should’ve spread out the undercard so it could be televised. Diego, Kos, and Andre WERE Main Event, or at least on the damn poster for a card. EvenCummo/ Luigi should be good.
I like Leben, but his fight doesn’t match up to these three, but he’s a crowd favorite.
HOpefully Arlovski signs and takes on Mir for #1 contender, even though we all know Dana will make Mir vs Nog next.
Andre vs. Kongo for #1 would not be bad either for the summer??
I don’t expect too many surprises from this card.
Kos/Hazelett is the fight that I want to see make it on to the PPV the most. Plus I got money on it, so of course I’d prefer to watch the fight…
Who did you take? big spread…. I was playing with putting a little $ on that one too… already took Hendo, Kongo and Tanner… ( I LOVE THE DOGS)
Besides Kongo that is….
I agree that Kongo vs. Arlovski would have been an awesome fight. Watching Herring lose is getting boring.
I think people look forward to seeing Chris Leben fight because they hope to see him get knocked out. His TUF antics, colored hair and toe stomps are just annoying. I am starting to like him more, though, as he seems to be getting more dedicated and less cocky.
It seems that we often get to see several of the undercard fights on the PPVs, so hopefully some of those great matches will get shown this time, too.

Glass jaw? He may not be a world class fighter, but he’s not a can by a long shot. The guy is KNOWN for being able to take a punch. He’s a tough guy and always has exciting fights.
With the exception of the silva knockout dangerous Dan has not been that dangerous lately. I now definitely feel that Dan is the big underdog going into this fight cant wait to see it at a friends house cause ther is no way in hell im paying $45
If you are not paying for this PPV, is there any PPV that you would pay for???

Leben vs Sakara will be a crowd pleasing fight that will end by KO, that is why it is televised. Diego is fighting a NOBODY and he is coming off of two consecutive losses = UNDERCARD. Kos is fighting Dustin McLovin Hazelett. Out of all of the undercard fights, this is the one that I want to see the most. The reason its on the undercard is because Kos is a snoozer of a fighter and Dustin is still relatively unkown to the common fan despite this being his 4th fight in the UFC. Cummo vs Favorati didn’t make the main card because their records aren’t impressive, and they both have less personality than a pet rock. On the other hand, Chris Leben brings it every time he steps into the octagon, looks for the KO, turns up to another level when he does get hurt, and he knows how to sell a fight (love him or hate him).

Dustin has GREAT BJJ and Kos has been submitted before. I dont think that Kos should be plus 500 against anybody, let alone someone that is 2-1 in the UFC. I got something on Hendo and Kongo as well. Evan Tanner just has not fought recently, and has been in some shady situations to say the least, so I find him to be too risky to put money on. However, I will be rooting for the drunken sailor!

EXACTLY chefdaddy. Leben will be the first to tell you that he is not the most well rounded fighter, but he trains every part of the game. Also, how in the world can someone that is 7-3 in the UFC be a can? And Chris Leben having a glass jaw??? Wow, you need to do your homework buddy. Anderson Silva is the ONLY fighter to KO Chris Leben. Chris likes to stand and bang with his opponents, so the fact that he has only been KO’d once (by the guy that KO’s everybody) is almost unbelievable.

I have a feeling with the exception of the main event, most of the great fights are going to be before the broadcast as usual.
Fitch and Kongo were put on the main card over Sanchez and Koscheck due to their last fights. Theres no way Fitch could be undercarded with his past fights, and considering if Kongo wins tonight he could be #1 contender, he should be on the main card. Should be an amazing night of fights..less than 2 hours left.
Hey Mania, how do I get in touch with you for the Mativator contest winning?

No way mang..Tanner will never ever defeat Silva…..Period!!
I hate it when a guy looses by verbal tap out due to strikes. Fighters should not quit from strikes, they should fight until they are forced to stop.
Most likely Diego mounted him and let loose on him. Anyone know if Diego ended the fight while mounted?

Damn Mania,
Everytime I refresh the page it takes longer and longer. I know the site will be exrtremely busy tonight. I hope it doesn’t stop working like it did on the night of UFC 82.
I think the upset of the night will be Chris Wilson defeating Jon Fitch.
I actually liked that pick, but Fitch is one of them really mentally tough fighters who doesnt over look any opponents therefore i couldnt go with Wilson, but Wilson is tough and in this big underdog role, he would have had a great chance at upseting a lot of the other top WW, I just think Fitch is too mentally tough and on top of his game right now to loose to anyone, not named GSP!
Since Diego ended the fight quickly, if there is anytime left on the pay per view broadcast i expect to see Diego’s win get aired!
F Diego. Broadcast AA

I know he ended by G n P but was it out of the mount position? I bring this up because most of the time when a fighter taps to strikes its because he is mounted.
FIGHT UPDATE: Josh Koscheck defeats Dustin Hazelett via technical knockout (strikes) in round two. The finish was set up by a BIG head kick. Fight of the night so far from what I hear.

I feel ya man. I notice there is a lot of controversy when he officiates certain fights. I know we haven’t had one in a while, so now it seems to be the perfect time. I want the referee of the Main Event to be Mario Yamasaki. He’s a veteran ref too, and he always let’s fights go the distance.

FIGHT UPDATE: Luigi Fioravanti defeats Luke Cummo via unanimous decision
I was rooting for Hazlett because I wagered on him. I hate Koschek but its good to hear that he is finally finishing a fight.
With Kos and Diego both getting back to their winning ways, does this set up the rubbermatch between their heated rivalry? My question…Do u think Kos and Diego will fight each other for a 3rd time in their next fights?
FIGHT UPDATE: Luigi Fioravanti defeats Luke Cummo via unanimous decision
That was probably a very exciting fight. Cummo has to get a little stronger because he does have a solid skill set, and is a tough and dedicated kid, I just think he needs a little more strength and power if he wants to compete at welterweight. For instance Diego and Kos would throw him around. I hope he gets a little stronger because Cummo is a skilled fighter.
I bet that Fioravanti’s toughness was probably the difference in this fight.

Yeah Kos is a tough dude with him actually rounding out his skills and Diego putting on more muscle to be competitive strength wise a 3rd fight would be hopefully awesome. Ive always liked Diego over Kos but ive realized one thing about Kos is he has tons of untapped potential. Both guys are seriously competitive and even though they have both had lackluster fights at times usually they are pretty fun to watch.

Anderson Silva is unbeatable right now. 2nd round rear naked choke to Henderson.
Its laughable that some people think that GSP has a chance against Anderson Silva.
If a guy like Matt Serra could “catch” GSP with a punch, then, Anderson Silva would destroy GSP.
man, cant say Im surprised. I mean theres no logical opponents in MW now. He should either go up to LHW or retire as an undefeated champion….btw,Henderson gave up on that fight. Silva had a rear naked choke in TIGHT; another 8 seconds and Hendo would’ve passed out by the end of the round. I was 9-1 on the picks tonight but I had faith in Hendo to grind this one out…I’m never betting against Silva again, most dominant middleweight in the world for a long time to come.

Are you effen kidding me kid? Silva’s been around for quite sometime… granted, so has Henderson, however… he’s just another boring, cover–your-mouth-so-you-can’t-breathe, bring-to-decision, wrestler. Is this your first time watching Silva at the UFC, or what?
On a closing note, Dana White can eat s**T and die for all I care… that guy’s a total loser and only does what he needs to do as a business man, I suppose… it’s trendy now to watch the UFC… gotta make the fans happy… he sucks.

I still think GSP vs Silva would be a very close fight. I don’t think anyone’s gonna try to tell you GSP could stand with Silva but his wrestling and jiu-jitsu is very good and if he could give Silva some trouble. Your nuts buddy. Kimbo was a street fighter,Lesnar was an NCAA champion. What Im curious about is if you hate the UFC so much…why do you keep watching?
If I was a LHW, I’d be scared of Anderson Silva. I been saying it for months, he beats Hendo, there’s no one left in MW, so he’s going to have to move up to 205. I hope they feed him Liddell first, tear his head off.
Henderson let alot of people down tonight
Im so f**king upset Fuck mma, fuck the ufc fuck it all FUCK
Why would he move up?
He should continue to dominate 185, cement his legacy, make his cake and then move up. I’m talking like another 4 or 5 fights at least at 185. Okami, then Marquadt again, then Almeida, then Franklin 3, and then maybe Cote or something. Just because we know he’s gonna win doesn’t mean these fights shouldn’t happen.
…….hendo lost..no way.. o well lesnar will destroy all
Silva could be the first UFC multiple Champion. Does it make sense for the UFC to have him fight up? Probably not. With his ability he would dominate the 205 class also. NO point talking about 185 contenders anymore for him. He’d take out the top 205’s the same way disposed of Henderson. Now what???
gee thanks dana 50 dollars for only 6 fights …the free fight better be good or i ll sue u ,maybe instead of suing everyone because they make u look bad in the media u should start concentrating on giving your fans their moneys worth ,the fights were good BUT not for 50 buxx ,i think there should be televised fights every week ….its main stream enough …dana u wanna be richer or not???vince macmahon makes what u make once a week ????cmon dana u stingy sonofabitch
Thats too bad about Dan. I think he would have gone to sleep if he didn’t tap therefore did not give up. It sounded to me like after the fight the camera caught him saying “He was just f-ing with me” Did I hear that wrong? The night was worth the money to me. I think Kos may have earned some fans too. (Boos turned to chears). They certainly could have shown the AA fight though they were just killin time at the end. I’m a little disapointed about that.
I want to see Brock Lesnar fight (an in shape) Bob Saap. That would be entertaining… The UFC should aquire Bob Saap and others like him. Then they could have a Super Heavywheight Division.
hate to say it but i told u so. Now maybe silva gets some respect. Whats next. Who will fight him at middlewieght. Maybe wandy. other wise its up to light heavy. how cool would it be to see silva liddel. cant wait. make it so dana.

He should either go up to LHW or retire as an undefeated champion….btw,Henderson gave up on that fight. there was 15 seconds left and Henderson would of went unconscience in about another 5 seconds. Better to tap out at 11 seconds then to be unconscience when the bell rings and have your teammates carry you back to the corner.
if u dont think the choke was sunk in then u r just not being real dude it was sunk in as good as any rnc ive seen period. just look at his face dude.
Silva is always exciting, always.
Koscheck by tko, back to the maincard.
and yes wilson, hazelett and kongo we’re all impressive in their losses and that was the best herring in the ufc but I still don’t care for him.
not so impressive was fitch I agree he blew his number one spot I think and Hederson, geez cant get a win in the octagon, oh well, I was going for Silva 2nd rd sub.
Great night of fights, looking forward to the 2nd
and the leben fight was great against alessio the glassjaw sakara.
Mayan the spider should jus move up to fight the iceman
Leben really shut up the haters tonight. Impressive win. I’d like to see Leben/Cote 2.
Dan didnt renew a contract with UFC in the first place so him not winning is no shock. It was just a payday fight.
The only opponent left for Anderson Silva, in this weight class, would be to fight Dan Henderson again. I think Hendo learned a lot about The Spider tonight. Dan dominated the first round and just got caught in Silva’s Muay Thai clinch. I would love to see the rematch!
If GSP beats Serra I would like to see GSP move up a weight and take on the Silva as well, that would be one hell of a fight!

take your own advice and look at his face…why not take the chance of either going out,or possibly making it to the end of the round…whatever
as for Silva and the MW division. After Okami I dont see anyone that has a chance. I dont even think many athletic comissions would set up many of the MW fighters due to the experience gap. Silva already said he’d love to move up to LHW and I’d love to see it. Of all the LHW’s in the UFC, the only one I see having a good chance would be Machida. His elusive style and angle work could keep him from taking much damage. People say Chuck would get killed and maybe thats true. But with Chucks style I could him pulling of a decision. If its a 5 rounder though, all Silva.
Silva is the man… Great set of fights, although kongo didn’t really play to his strengths but all good.

are u sure ur just not sore cause hendo lost. give some credit where credit is due. hendo is a great fighter and i really think he laid it all out there. I mean he was trading shots with anderson silva for goodness sake. i really expected him to take it to the ground sooner than he did. and silva looked very nervous to me at the outset. credit to both guys for leaving it all on the mat. same cant be said for heath or kongo snorefest.
Anyone else think that Dan Henderson vs Rich Franklin would be a great fight? They could fight to see who the second best middleweight in the world is. But seriously if and when Rich wins his next fight I would love to see that fight happen.

OK. UFC claims you can watch all the prelim fights on their site, and you can…. with the exception of the Arlovksi fight. Are you serious? Come on.
Coming in to this fight, Andrei was being as good about the situation as possible. Absolutely nothing negative about the UFC or the way he’s been treated, which kinda gave me hope that maybe he’d re-sign with em, but obviously, since Andreis name was never mentioned during the telecast, he was the only winning fighter to not get a post fight interview in the ring, and now they wont even allow people to see the fight at all (prolly cause he TKO’d the guy and UFC doesn’t want people seein the real AA), I now have lost all hope that Andrei will fight in the UFC again. Big mistake on UFCs part, for sure.
Does anyone know of anyplace that might actually have the AA fight to watch?
THIs is the moment anderson loses and then again we’ll never see him!!!!

Wrong. You see, the difference is, Dana White enjoys sucking off Anderson, so, even after he loses, Dana will still give him the spotlight. Anderson could screw Dana’s wife (if hes got one) and Dana would just say, “Dang, you really are the best pound-for-”pound” fighter in the world. Me next, Anderson?”
does anyone have links to any of the undercard fights yet?
i appreciate it.

Its laughable that some people think that GSP has a chance against Anderson Silva.

I still think GSP vs Silva would be a very close fight. I don’t think anyone’s gonna try to tell you GSP could stand with Silva but his wrestling and jiu-jitsu is very good and if he could give Silva some trouble. Even as big of a GSP fan as I am though I would probably pick Silva in that fight but I wouldn’t count GSP out.
I don’t think GSP could move up to MW and challenge Anderson. Anderson’s a strong guy at 185 and GSP wouldn’t be able to overpower guys like he does cutting to make WW. Anderson Silva showed tonight what he can do against olympic class wrestlers in the clinch.
I like GSP too, but, he isn’t going to be the guy to beat Anderson Silva at 185. I think jumping 20lbs to 205 and fighting guys that are naturally VERY big in that weight class is the only way this guy is going to lose.
Even at 205lbs, I can’t think of a fighter that could whole heartly DOMINATE Anderson Silva. If he can maintain his quickness at 205, Silva is going to have the LH title too.
Silva is the man! for all the haters saying hendo gave up, try it yourself, go to a bjj school and tell the instructor to sink in a rear naked choke on you and lets see if you can hold it for 11 seconds. don’t talk trash, you ain’t no fighter, dan got my respect for putting it out there and to say he just gave up is such a huge disrespect to him. watch all his fights, dan is no quitter.

Just let him Choke him out no way. He rolled 3 times. First when Silva was taking his back, then when , Silva took his back (rolled into the sitting position then rolled to his belly, got pancaked out and choked. He did not give up Anderson Silva is just that good. For all of yousaying he should have hung in there, the mans eyes where Bulging out of his head when he finally tapped. Is that not enough choke for all of you fans! it is not like Anderson Silva just got into BJJ a couple months ago, he has a legitimate black belt from legit teachers.
To loose respect for Henderson is crazy. He pushed the fight, got caught in the clinch like so many others who have fought Silva. Silva is amazing in the Clinch and knees to the face hurt….

Linx I completely agree. 1st off Hendo was really rocked. He may not get KO, but he does get rocked all the time. Silva rocked him, and took advantage, eventually sinking in the choke. It is a huge disrespect to the warrior that is Dan henderson for people to say he quit. You could see it in his face that he was being strangled and that he had to tap or go to bet and risk shitting your pants.

I would also like to see Hendo vs. Franklin
but there are much bigger match ups for Henderson out there that take precedent IMO over the Rich Franklin fight.
For Example:
Henderson vs. Wanderlei III They each hold a win over each other, what better way to end the saga, then to have thre rubber match in the octagon.
I also would love tosee Henderson beat up Liddell! This fightwas supposed to happen, but Rampage KO chuck in the 1st minute of the bout!
Henderson vs. Tiago Silva would be interesting as well
Wow, silva surprised me, I expected much more from henderson, silly fools, when will people realize your a fool to stand and trade with silva, hendo should have taken him down every chance he got, which was really his only chance, repeat round one over and over again.
Middle weights beware, I have no idea now who would stand a good chance of beating silva, all his fights he’s had in the ufc he’s finished the guy before the third round, amazing.
Is it just me or did anyone else think that Henderson went out a bit easy? what gives?:
1) Gave his back and flattened out pretty quick.
2) Did not defend the final choke very well.
Okami’s next.
I’m still a believer: GSP will dethrown the Spider.

This was an okay card overall. Most of the matches were only moderate, but main event was exceptional, adn the only prelim that was aired, was also exciting. The card is the worst UFC event so far this year, but the main event is the fight of the year so far.
5 stars for Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson
3 stars for Cheick Kongo vs. Heath Herring
3 stars for Chris Leben vs. Alessio Sakara
3 stars for Yushin Okami vs. Evan Tanner
3 stars for Jon Fitch vs. Chris Wilson
4 stars for Josh Koscheck vs. Justin Hazelett
Events and fights are rated from 1-5 stars based on:
- action and excitement
- skill and technique
- significance and interest
What do you think the results of Silva/Henderson can say about a hypothetical match between Silva/Lindland, if anything?
What do you think are the chances of Silva/Henderson as fight of the year? I know its early in the year, but this fight was exciting and showed good technique. Also, most fights don’t have the potential to be as relevant.
Okami will most likely get a shot next so Silva can avenge his so-called loss, but we all know what happened. Silva definitely needs to get up to 205. I wanna see him against Wanderlei, Liddell, Shogun, and Rampage.

I didn’t really like it when silva dissed dan in the beginning of the fight either. But I think it had more to do with dan saying that silva is not really p4p best, that the prior fighters that he fought were scared to stand with him and that was the reason he was so dominant. I think this made silva pissed off (same thing happened with him and leben, silva waited like forever to touch gloves with him because leben was being a prick before the fight talking too much trash).
But you can’t just look at silva and not remember what rampage did to dan in the beginning of their fight, dan came out with a huge smile to touch gloves with page and page dissed him too (and that’s even worse because their friends).
I don’t think there would be a rematch for this one though, silva was really dominant in this fight, enough to silence all the critics (although as I can see it still didn’t silence them all). The only time dan was in the advantage was in the middle of the first round to the end where he kept silva in side control, doing some nice ground and pound (but not really great). The rest of the fight was all silva, dan tried to stand with him and got the short end of the stick, dan connected many times but just didn’t effect silva at all, meanwhile, silva connected many times and you saw what happened. The clinch was also all silva, dan did good to keep silva in the clinch for a little bit but didn’t quite do anything with it, as they were breaking away from the clinch dan threw a knee but it didn’t hurt silva at all, he just shook it off and answered with his one, which had dan rocked.
Silva was just smarter, quicker and stronger in every way in this fight, and a rematch I’d see the same result. There was a great article in mmajunkie where they pointed out that silva’s only flaw would be if dan was in his side control, but how many times would dan be able to put him there in a 5 round fight? The answer we now know… Just once.
I dont know who is next for Spider but I can say that Evan Tanner thought he had a solution for silva’s clinch…..uh..no…if Okami’s clinch destroyed him Silva’s knee’s would make him unrecognizable to his own mom.
Silva said in the post fight interview that he is not looking to move up in weight but he may consider moving down. GSP vs Silva would be one crazy fight. We can all speculate on who would win but I think it could be marketed as the fight for the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Maybe we will see this in 09
Okami will fight Anderson next, which is no surprise. And, it’ll be a better fight than the Hendo fight. Nothin against Hendo and his performance last night (he dominated round 1), but Okami is solid. I personally think he is way underrated. With that said, I wouldnt put money on Okami by any means, but at the same time, I would never count him out either.
As far as GSP moving up to middleweight, GSP could most definitely challenge Anderson. GSP got caught against a subpar fighter. It happens. It’s fighting. All it takes is one punch. Without that one punch, GSP is probably considered 1 or 2 in the pound-for-pound category. There has been talk of GSP even possibly gettin all the way up to LHW, so I he feels he can get to LHW and fight, movin up 1 class to middleweight shouldn’t be a problem. GSP will never see LHW, just so you dont think I’m retarded.
Silva will never move up classes. He’s gonna be perfectly happy owning his own division for the rest of his career.
But, after last night, Silva might just be the best in the world.
Mania and Jesse were both wrong.
Okami has no chance in beating Silva, and that’s the truth.
you guys make no sense….you honestly think Silva can move up to LHW and take out Liddell???? Did you forget who Knocked out some of the best fighters ever in MMA? That would be Chuck….you think Silva has powerfull strikes? Go back and watch Liddell vs Tito I & II…Liddell vs SObral I & II, Liddell vs Couture II & III, Liddell vs Horn II (a guy that beat the spida)…your dreaming. Yes, Anderosn would have a chance, but in my mind I cannot see him beating Liddell. A worn out Lutter has done the best job against Silva I think so far out of anybody. Lutter just couldnt finish the job. I dont knwo what happened to Henderson….I guess he just got frustrated and made a mistake? Back to Silva, how do you think he moves to LHW aand beat Chuck, but yet some hink GSP a welterweight can give Silva a run for the money? That is laughable….

Dan dominated Silva the first round. He’s not the brightest guy for rolling over and giving Silva his back with 30 seconds left in the round. It’s not like Silva was overwhelming him with punches. Do you think Silva should just hang his gloves up now, due to lack of competition or can you think of someone in the UFC who would have a better chance than GSP. If a guy who Karo beat can catch Silva in a submission, just think how bad GSP (who beat Karo) would destroy Silva. Ya, it doesn’t work that way does it. I know Silva is great, but GSP is a master at taking his opponents out of their game and that is the ONLY way someone is going to beat Silva. Bottom line is someone has to fight Silva and GSP can’t do any worse than those who have already fought Silva.

Jeremey Horn lost to Silva btw. Also Anderson may not hit as hard as Chuck but his stand up is way more technical and every punch he throws lands right on the money and Chuck is a master of catching people making mistakes but I have yet to see Silva make any real mistakes with his stand up I mean did you watch him just toy with Rich and duck and dodge all his punches and kicks. Bottom line not only does Anderson have the best standup in all of mma it is on a completely different level. HIs only real weakness is his wrestling but then again he’s a black belt in BJJ and creates some real problems with those long legs so do you really want to take him down?

Uh i actually watched the AA fight on UFCs website so don’t know what your talking about. Save your $2 though it wasn’t that great just typical Obrien shooting non stop and AA stuffing his take downs then AA finally trips him when he overcommits to a shoot and falls in mount and pounds him out.
My feeling on last night…
Silva Very very impressed… I dont know of anyone in WW or LHW that could go to mw and give him a go…
Henderson Impressed first round and disappointed 2nd round actually the last 10 seconds of the round… Still hes good now just has to refocus.
Kongo - Takedowns are getting much better and actually could have had the fight if not for him taking down Herring.
Herring looks like a new man. But I see the same guy with a few add ons. He has something to prove now so hw watch out…
Okami - A weaker version of silva or gsp. Glad he got his finish.
Tanner - Looked frustrated and looks like he needs a good team behind him to get him on track.
Fitch - Horrible, he was pretty much shown who was boss in the first round. The fight I saw was not a contender type fight, Karo would rip him apart.
Wilson - Looks like someone who could hang in the UFC for a while, not snazzy but got skills.
Leben - It will take one more fight for me to take him under my wing as a favorite. He is definitly one to watch but I figure he cant play a smart game and if he ever gets a belt he will only hold it for one fight… I also cant seem to get the TUF out of my mind… ONe more fight might do it though.
Koscheck - Actually seems alot more well rounded than I gave him credit for. I still dont see him taking out Karo but he could beat Swick and Fitch.
I dont know the results of Diegos fight.
AA I hope you stay and I figure they’ll keep you to challenge for the belt…
GSP VS SILVA… ITS A NO BRAINER AFTER GSP DEFENDS 3 TITLE FIGHTS… SERRA, KARO and FITCH. MOVE UP!!!
Funny you mention Cote. Although Cote isn’t as well rounded as Silva’s previous competition, I think he could only do better. Cote wouldn’t take Silva to the ground where most have met their fate. Cote has some sweet hands with one punch KO power (he’s KOed a lot of guys) and he has never really been rocked let alone KOed. He is very good a not taking too much damage, however Silva is better than most at giving it. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t bet the house on Cote, I just think he might last longer than most and it could be an entertaining fight. Let see how great his chin really is. If he wins his next fight, that would be 4 wins in a row (possibly 3 by KO), making him the most deserving for a shot after Okami.
silva did a good job, but i cant understand why hendo could make such a big mistake like that! hes fought the best BJJ and for him to give him his back like that(even if he was rocked) i cannot understand. HENDO got caught, just like the spida will get caught one day when leasts expects it!
For the ones saying he should just retire since theres no one out there for him, all i can say is there will always be someone out there. There r many more great fighters that he can match up with, he just has to be willing to get out of his comfort zone and try it like many others have in their careers by moving up weight or down! Until hes willing to challenge himself and take on the difficult challenge of adjusting weight, then there will always b a challenger out there like GSP, BJ PENN, MACHIDA, SHOGUN.
Thats the true definition of best pound for pound in my opinion…bj penn anyone? much repsect to the spider either way!
i dont think silva can be stopped. id wanna see a Yushin Okami v Silva mathup . okami looked deadly
